As a Panther fan it's such a surreal feeling. My favorite team is dominating the rest of the league and their vibes are immaculate. My one and only worry is keeping Mackie Samoskevich lol
Florida's game plan and execution are the reasons why they won the Stanley Cup again. The entire team played well, and even the extra guys like Boqvist and Balinskis, who were called up for an injured player, stepped up.
After losing to the Avs in the Stanly Cup finals 0-4, the Panthers only won 6 playoff games (games, not series: games) over the next 22 seasons (23 including the lockout year). And now they're one of the most dominant teams with 2 Cups in a row. Incredible turnaround for what was a really bad franchise.
Zito built the Panthers and Yzerman built the Bolts…It is a Florida problem indeed, but it goes to both coasts. Competent ownership, management and leadership is the key, not taxes or system or anything else.
Florida also had $20 million more in salary in the playoffs over the Oilers (and significantly over the salary cap) on top of good players taking less per player to play there. It also helped the NHL punished the Oilers when the Oilers called out Bennett for diving on the goalie which set the tone for the whole series. The NHL has incentivized cheating in numerous areas of the game (both on and off the ice) and that is what the past 6 winners all have in common. And before people say Kane was the same deal in Edmonton, no he wasn't. He was legitimately injured and probably should not have played. And the Oilers had numerous more effective players injured throughout the season and in the playoffs.
Look I'm getting really tired of everybody bringing up McDavid and Drysaddle they are NOT the greatest duo in the NHL they are not the greatest players in the world just because you're great during a regular season don't mean s*** when it comes to postseason time bro if you can't put up and you can't make any kind of wins when it time to put it on they are no show! they almost never show up they're not even existed McDavid is the greatest worst player I've ever seen in my entire life he is only good in the regular season nobody cares about that all! What we care about is championships because at the end of the day championships is what makes somebody the greatest of all time not just having personal goals in the regular season smh I'm sick of hearing McDavid and dry saddle in the same conversation all they do is regular season BS nobody cares about that. all anybody cares about is winning a cup which is something they seem in capable to be able to do so they're not the greatest duo at all in any way shape or form
Excellent analysis, and there is also a psychological advantage Bobrobsky adds. The players know he's got their back should they make a mistake, which gives the Panthers – already loaded with swagger – even more swagger.

This was a great and informative video to watch, so thank you for that! To add to what you said at the very beginning of this video, I think the teams that go into their season thinking about how to build a cup winning team need to stop obsessing over what works for this Florida team and take a look at what and how they want to build an IDENTITY. I’m a rangers fan and Joe micheletti always said that’s what they lacked, and look at where they are now? A crippled team who rushed a rebuild with no apparent end goal (identity) in mind. Thanks for another great vid!!
Anyone who says the tax free state argument doesn’t matter couldn’t be more flat out wrong. You mean to tell me it’s a coincidence that since 2020 there has been a cup final with a total of 8 appearances including tax free state teams in the final…
Dallas vs Tampa Tampa vs Montreal Tampa vs Colorado Vegas vs Florida Florida vs Edmonton Florida vs Edmonton
If it doesn’t matter as some of you say, I don’t think it’s an accident that Marchment was traded from Dallas to Seattle… to ya know, keep his earnings in another income tax free state
If it's all about the state income tax, why aren't every single sports team in Florida the champions every single year? It's ridiculous, we haven't had a state income tax since I've lived here, in 1977…Why haven't the Miami Dolphins won the Super Bowl every year? Why haven't the Orlando Magic won A SINGLE NBA championship?
I don't care what kind of system your team is running, when you essentially have millions in extra cap space and the NHL has absolutely no other equalizing factors at play you have an unfair advantage.
Over the last 6 years you've had teams that come from states with no income tax consistently reach the final again and again. Would this happen if Florida or Vegas had 13% less cap space than other teams? Probably not.
Saying there's a Florida problem without mentioning the Lightning is a crime. They also won 2 in a row then lost to CO the 3rd final in 3 years. Immediately after, the Panthers have reached 3 Stanley's in a s row. Gotta mention the Lightning.
Panther fan here. Thank you, Hockey Psychology for pointing what should be obvious to the dopes in our fanbase. The clueless putzes in our fanbase do not realize the importance of Bob. Every fanbase, besides the loud clowns in ours is shocked that I actually have to say this. The man is still in his prime (dont ask me how). Dude is a machine. He has to be extended now, but for some reason, this fanbase is clueless and thinks that goalies like Bob grow on freakin trees. He is now one of the greatest playoff goalies in NHL history. If he is not retained our Cup window shuts real fast.
Personally I think all players should pay a flat percentage for taxes (eg 15%) that goes into a fund and the league uses that fund to pay taxes for every team(that way there’s no advantage to having no tax and it evens the playing field)
The system worked well for them, yes, because they had the talent level to capitalize on the chances they created. Without that talent level it's just mucking.
I appreciate the enthusiasm of the presentation, however, the one thing they fail to consider is the rigors of playing very, very long seasons, the aging of the team under these conditions, and the propensity of injuries that occur to all teams, but especially those whose seasons are that long.
Teams have their time but the cap evens everything. Couple of years and Panthers will be scrambling. Injuries and defections change everything relax their a good team whose having its day. That’s all.
It's crazy to see how many chances and goals Florida scored on the forecheck or turning an opponents clear into a giveaway. Why is Florida the only team that can pull this off this well? Every other team Edmonton played they were able to get around it
It’s a blessing to be a Florida fan at the right time. All the darkness this franchise went through has been all but worth it and now we are basking in the effort that Zito, Maurice, and the players have put into their craft. Let’s enjoy this while we do Cats fans, cause Panthers hockey is the best thing in sports rn 🐀🐆❤️

Boston: What if we get rid of Brad Marchand?
Florida: What if we trade for Brad Marchand?

Thanks for the breakdown.

I love this damn team and they couldn’t have come at a better time in South Florida pro sports. Paul Maurice really has been the key.
Nobody cared about the tax when the Cats were trash for 20+ years.

Florida has the become the team to beat. Your depth analysis on the Panthers' pressure strategy is spot on

Players buying in. Listening Rangers?
Nhl needs to drop the salary cap for teams that pay no taxes because of location or raise the cap in tax burdened cities.
Dominant team no doubt but you should mention they had an extra $20M on the ice due to PED suspension and LTIR use.

Are teams allowed to offer to pay player's sales tax and it not count against their cap?

It's their forechecking scheme.

The NHL is broken.
Panthers are clearly the best team in the league. Its about their depth. Hands down.
Saying there's a Florida problem without mentioning the Lightning is a crime. They also won 2 in a row then lost to CO the 3rd final in 3 years. Immediately after, the Panthers have reached 3 Stanley's in a s row. Gotta mention the Lightning.
Man, I hate Florida, but God Damnit I love the Panthers…
I think the fact that you have a bad feeling about your team facing the Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals speaks volumes.
hi HP, can you maybe do a video of what the top nhl teams needs inorder to be considered contenders for next season?
Why are you framing Floridas success as a “problem” or “issue”?
Tampa was the blueprint, panthers just copied it. Never forget

Panthers must sign Emil Lilleberg for tamba, perfect addition to our defense
because if you try to play like them you will get penalized, its not difficult
Gary saying it's not a problem means it is a problem.

Fabulous!
😂 Canada has a loser problem
The league is rigging it for the MAGA teams

People saying the tax break is the reason FLA was so good must have forgotten Seattle exists

We need a 5-10 feet wider rink in NHL.
THIS IS THE FLORIDA PANTHERS
More like defined by parody
Teams have their time but the cap evens everything. Couple of years and Panthers will be scrambling. Injuries and defections change everything relax their a good team whose having its day. That’s all.
There is one team that can beat this system. Its MTL. Seen them do it all year and leave florida stunned and upset.

Yes, they have a disrespectful problem called the Panthers. I hope the Panthers remember, it's a 2 way street and Karma is a B I T C H.
