Bennett hit on Stolarz: how history allowed this to happen – Tough Call Review
Sam Bennett has a playoff tradition of taking out important opponents with head shots. Should he be suspended for this contact with Anthony Stolarz? It should never have come to this in the first place.
Bennet is a full volume rat & most people that watch hockey other than their own hometown teams already know that. The big question is, why does that giant suck Parros, the head of DOPS for the NHL, do nothing about the REPEATED dangerous, behaviour by this borderline psychopath? He is laying on hits to hurt people & he knows what he's doing. That head shot on Marchand was exhibit 'A' coming in on smaller player, making sure Marchand's body is between the ref & Bennett, then with the top of his stick in his right hand, punches Marchand in the head concussing him. A dirty, rat move designed to cause harm to the other player & DOPS despite CLEAR evidence of what he'd done, chose to do nothing. A f*cking disgrace.
One day I hope we get to see the dirt he has on bettman, it must be a doozy . Also on yesterday's hit the top down view should remove all doubt he punched through the contact. I hope domi decides to channel dad
If I seen that when I played D I wouldn’t just take his number, someone needs to put them in check that it won’t be tolerated. Take him out & send an example to the other team let alone all the other teams. Yeah it’s full contact sport but that’s cheap. That was not an accident. That was intent to injure! Come on refs!! Take him out with someone else. You have the go ahead now.
The big problem here is that now the Leafs are going to start retaliating, and THAT'S when DoPS is going to step in, so basically it becomes where the Panthers know they can get away with things like this, because any retaliation against it is going to have the book thrown at it.
So stolarz is at the edge of his crease, literally with his head over the red line, and even seems to move forward a tad more as he goes to cover the puck, and Bennett is skating by, at the most a few inches in the blue and makes contact while in the process of playing the puck, and you would suspend him. Yet one week earlier Timo crashes the net at well more speed than a simple glide, knowing good and well that any sort of divot in the ice, a little extra snow, a small nudge, anyting at all, is gonna send him full speed into the face of a man on his knees, and because of a nudge not much harder than a kid playing bantam would make, runs into a goalie 4ft into the blue and we say, "oh well he didn't mean it, no problem here". I just don't see by what logic you act like one is egregious and the other not. How can you say "oh, timo was just playing hard, accidents happen", and then look at bennett and say its devilsh and not him playinh hard. Way way way too many careless playes around goalies recently.

Missed the Knies body slam from 2023…also took him out of the playoffs. I personally can't be certain if he hit Stolarz with intent…never played and it was a major scramble. BUT what I can say for certain is he went in there with 0 care for the goalies safety! And that's when his history makes a difference….there are guys (like Bunting) the refs always penalise for some reason. Just saying. In cricket/rugby players a previous history of fines/suspensions are taken into consideration when penalising an infraction…obviously players are aware of this and take more care on the field. Fines/suspensions can also be increased/decreased depending on contrition shown by the player…if Bennett had been made to reflect on actions he might be more careful in future.

Serious question: why does it matter if Bennett intended to make contact or not? When a player accidentally high sticks another player or accidentally trips another player etc it is not part of the equation. Intent should not matter .
When does the Department of player safety? Decide what is enough force to be a forceful hit? Are they out there measuring do they have sensors on the pads oh, you hit somebody too hard. That’s that’s wrong. Yeah they got a problem and they don’t care. Also, someone goes and accidentally high stick someone it’s still a penalty whether it was accidental or intentional. Yes Sam Bennett has a history of intentionally trying to injure other players and the DPS has done nothing which has emboldened him to continue his behaviour. Specifically in regards to the Stolarz head shot there is one element to the play confirming it was intentional. You can see that Bennet’s elbow continues moving forward in a striking / swiping motion after contact with Stolarz head. Similar to the way a boxer is taught to punch through their target for maximum force. This motion clearly indicates he was purposely moving it forward after the contact with force. Whereas if it was an accidental strike his elbow would have stopped and possibly even moved back the other way. It is pretty simple physics when you review it in this manner. Test the motion out yourself. It was a cheap shot typical of Bennett and continues to be allowed.
