With such a high pick this year to match getting Perfetti last year I think this is the perfect time to talk about a rebuild.
I know the return won’t be much on Blake Wheeler, but there is one market where it makes entirely too much sense for them to acquire Blake Wheeler. Of course I am talking about the New York Islanders.
They had a rough year no doubt starting with 13 games on the road. But they also never got their chance to replace Jordan Eberle who if we are being honest was always fairly consistent as a 20-25 goal pace kind of player.
You think about who they have, Anders Lee, Brock Nelson, Matthew Barzal, Jean Gabriel Pageau, Bailey, Kyle Palmeri…all of them are really good hockey players. That said last season they had Kieffer Bellows and Zach Parise in their top 6. Which tells me honestly that they are a perfect fit for Blake Wheeler.
Now what is he worth? God I have no clue. I think in a perfect rebuild world you might be able to squeeze Varlamov out of them since they are sold on Sorokin. Why is he important? Well to be honest I feel like if they are going rebuild route in Winnipeg they’re trading Hellebuyck away and getting tons of great assets.
Thing is Winnipeg could not do anything and be in the playoffs next year, especially if Forsberg walks out of Nashville and they elect to do a rebuild too
