For the second season in a row, the Oilers made it to the Stanley Cup Final, only to lose again to the Panthers, and now, the focus shifts to Connor McDavid’s future. TSN’s Ryan Rishaug joins Domino’s That’s Hockey to discuss the role the organization will have to play in making sure their captain re-signs. Rishaug also addressed why he was not at Thursday’s media availability, where he was clearly missed by McDavid.

True and sincere advice for Oilers Fans to cope with this loss:
1. Practice your "what if" scenarios. What if the puck bounced differently? What if the ref saw it? These hypothetical victories are just as valid as real ones.
2. Perfect the art of finding "positives" in every setback. A 5-1 Game 6 SCF loss is just a valuable learning experience for what promises to be a very strong "next year."
3. Be exceedingly "proud" of effort. Winning and reality are overrated when you can claim boundless "effort," regardless of the final score or trophy count.
4. Revisit the 1980s frequently. Living in past glories is a healthy, productive way to escape the harsh realities of the present. Highly recommended.
Exchange Kane and Nurse for two hockey players. That will improve the team immediately.
Give 4 millions to Frédéric but dont give holloway 2.3m. Insane
He's moving baby. Connor McDavid did his time in Edmonton and it is time…. to move on.
Why on earth is Bouchard so immune from criticism?!! I'm not saying don't sign him but damn, every time the media talks about him it's with kid gloves while the goalies are just torched. He was 100% responsible for the first 2 goals in that game 6 and he most often this year has put multiple goals in the Oilers net on an astoundingly regular basis. Yet he never misses a game, never misses a shift and never, ever is called out by the media. It's gross when other players who are putting their heart out there like Jeff Skinner can't even break the lineup most nights. If Skinner is being held accountable for not being perfect defensively then why the hell is your top DEFENSEMAN never, ever held accountable for directly costing this team wins? And this isn't hyperbole, he has been directly responsible for dozens and dozens of goals against because of insane rookie mistakes. Mistakes that routinely cost them wins. Yet he gets praised and is gonna get paid.
Well having an actual #1 goalie would certainly help
Its a hard choice for mcdavid cause the cup window is so short for teams and with how much they will have tied up in 2 players it's hard to think that they can get back to the cup after 2 straight years. Id be taking short deals at lower dollar aav to try to get a cup somewhere
The goaltending is sketch at best and the defence is slow and clumsy.
Oilers need a more experienced coach the most. Maurice wiped the floor with Knoblauch.
Mcdavid had enough of Knobloch. After the game he said we just kept doing the same thing over and over banging there heads against a wall. Knobloch is a 1 dimensional coach.
Can’t win as an oiler that team is imploding
Gino, send a tech to your place, and fix the focus. And the Frederic comment is what TSN predicts. Edmonton needs a speedy winger that can score for Draisaitl, and a shutdown defenseman that can hit hard. Yes, to the goaltending. Right, Jeff Jackson?!
Fredrick at 4 million for 8 years is an absolute steal of a deal he's going to be worth more than that in a full season playing for the Oilers yeahhh
Oilers should get Elvis Merzlikins
Flames fan here just loving life 🍿
He should try another team. The Oilers knew very well what to do to avoid repeating last season's scenario. They did nothing to improve defensively.
…the Panthers play by play guys loved ConMacD & Drasatil on the ice together (I'm sure they fill arenas) in a negative way, the more they were on the ice the worst things got for the Oilers (they fill seats) in the NFL they'd say 'the Oilers are a player away' the Oilers need a 'rat'…
As Panthers fan, really feel for the Oilers….Got mad respect and admiration for that team, franchise and McDavid…def be rooting for them to win one…
Remember this Ryan Ryshaug picking kings to sweep oilers and hes an " expert," 😂😂😂
I have no idea what the Oilers are doing. Frederic for 3,5m – over 8 years? Didn`t they learn anything from Kassians contract?
Why on earth did they let Holloway go? Also physical, had size, but was a way better player than Frederic.
Frederic did nothing these playoffs.
The consensus is the window of opportunity is gone. Teams have to win before their superstars reach Unrestricted Free Agency and price themselves too high to balance out the rest of the roster with anyone but a bunch of scrubs. Unless McDavid wants to leave money on the table, his entire future is playing somewhere like Columbus or Anaheim, making 20% of the cap, surrounded by AHL fodder.
The bottom line is Mcghost Didn't show up in the 4 biggest games of his life! The same way he didn't show up for games 6&7 of last years cup. Those were the 6 most important games of his life. What did the ghost do you ask…. 6GP 1G 1A 2pts -11 (2w 4L). It's actually embarrassing to put this losers name with the all time greats. Take all your stats, 1,2,3rd stats and shove up up you azz. When the lights get the brightest Mcghost folds every single time. That my friends will never change no matter where he plays. He is a grade A certified 2x loser.
Great analysis from Rishaug.
If McDavid isnt just about the money doesn't he sign for 10 mill a season?
Oilers should trade draisitl and build around mcdavid
Gino Reda's Devil's advocat questions are so tiresome….maybe he thinks he is being provocative and asking the hard questions…but for me his questions usually border on verbal click bait to just plain dumb.
The oilers will never win if they keep letting mcnuggets run the team . There is a reason why active players arent gms and coaches
Marner has as many cups as McDavid.
This is a Leafs remake. Replaying the mistakes of a top heavy team.
When youre an analyst and your analysis of a cap strapped team that is missing a lot of pieces is simply "lock everyone up to big contracts," then it's hard to take that analysis seriously
Panther fan here I'm scratching my head what these 2 are talking about is resigning the same players at a higher price to run it back, McDavid said it best in his exit interview" hitting your head against the wall, doing the same thing over and over again"
Kucherov and Leon are better than McGayvid
Goaltender!!!!
I dont think he should re-sign. Oilers have too many holes with depth and goaltending. Not enough time.
Ryans analysis is so off of everyone elses i watched. No Bouchard is not great but good, you cant wait until playoffs to address goaltending lol
"Decent " doesn't win championships.
They need a goalie
Mcdavid should leave … but he won’t. He will stay and he will never win a cup with this team.
Where can McDavid go today to win? Laugh if you say Leafs. Only Florida is the only option but they don't need him.
So nobody picked up on Lauren's Instagram post about the emotional strain that it causes her as a hockey wife when Connor is out on the road? Considering that she's from Sudbury Ontario originally & All her family & friends are from back east one has to consider how much of a factor this is in their young lives & as a recently married couple. Also he did mention that fact that he has to consider what is best for he & his family aka Translation happy wife = happy life.
If the Oilers management is hell bent on trading Evander Kane then try to swing a trade where Thatcher Demko is involved. Keep Skinner and have him compete with Demko for the starters position as a 1a or 1b tandem. Then get rid of one of the left side defensemen not named Darnell Nurse for my money try to trade Walman and possibly trade the rhd Ty Emberson as well. I would like to see Rasmus Anderson from Calgary as the number two dman on the right side. Let Jeff Skinner walk trade Adam Henrique, Viktor Arvidsson or possibly Janmark. I would like to see another power forward on the right wing someone like Josh Anderson. There will be All kinds of things happening at the draft & leading up to the time up to July 1st when Free Agency aka when silly season starts. If Bowman is patient he will wait for a possible bottom 6 forward up to the final roster cuts are made at training camp to make a waiver wire pick up. I'm not sure if both Klingberg or Stetcher stays I think if they keep Ty Emberson then one of those others is gone. I'm not interested in seeing Jake Allen or John Gibson as I think both are too expensive and on the down side of their careers. Jeremy Swayman will cost too much unless their is a interest from Boston in taking on Evander Kane and another contract, besides that I could see Boston asking for a lot of prospects and draft picks in that scenario so not a ideal trade imo. Too costly.
