03/10/2024 – Avalanche and Oilers each add some center depth.
all right on to uh the other past Stanley Cup champion two years ago the Colorado Avalanche uh so they they trade a sneaky good one too it was not bad so they acquired middle stat for bow and BM when I first saw it looking at just the names I was like oh really and you look at where they’ve been at for the last couple seasons and you’re like oh because bow and Byam I still don’t know about that cuz Bowen Byrum I think is 22 at the oldest could end it could end up going poorly but Colorado really needed center help they like really needed center help it’s it’s definitely a good move for the now middle stat uh having a good year in a not so good situation he had like 14 goals 20s something assists 30 something points on that Buffalo Sabers team I don’t think 50 something games I think yeah not not he’s not on the top line and yeah so he he’s doing fine and then we’ll get to this in a second but they also picked up Shawn Walker and a 20 26 fth uh and shipped out Ryan Johansson and a 2025 first uh for that so they get a little help he’s a defenseman they were uh sea Walker yeah yeah um he was I I don’t know a ton about him but from all the buzz he was like the top guy well top more affordable guy because you got Noah hanen but that’s a little harder to swing depending on your cap situation shun Walker’s a little more affordable yeah um and he was one of the top guys and also getting rid of that contract with Johansson where um I follow I have enough uh a Avalanche follower Mutual like people on Twitter that uh have have told me things were not going well they were not going well this year so that was I mean it pretty well illustrated by the fact that as soon as he got to Philly they sent him to the AHL and nobody claimed him y made it on waivers yeah yeah not not you know you feel for Ryan Johansson what he had a a great year with Nashville last year right was was that where he was that he had a really good year it was a decent enough year that decent enough year that Colorado took a chance on him and [Music] then and now it’s looking a little more like last year might have been um the anomaly not the not the nor the exception not the real yeah yes yes yes so one quote I’d like to discuss here for a second I’m not sure if you guys saw it but it was one of the first times a middle stat got uh interviewed after after the trade and he said quote I’ve never sweat that much during a morning skate oh so did he have an idea he might have been no no no this is after a morning in Colorado oh so like it was the morning skate was that was high Tempo reading between apparently buffalos weren’t yeah which I looked at Dan and I Dani found it and uh and then we looked at the comments and it was full of Buffalo Sabers fans going well this looks really bad for for the Sabers man like like this although it could have been I don’t know how did you hear how he like said it because it could have been one of those things where you get traded to a new team and he’s like kind of being like Oh you know never sweat someone like we were getting going with the boys kind of thing like had a new team or or was it just I think it was I think it was exactly how it sounds I think it was I think I think the Buffalo Sabers maybe don’t put as much effort into practice as they maybe should probably should I mean it wouldn’t shock me if Nate McKinnon’s team practices a little harder than than most teams yes but that’s why Nate McKinnon’s team wins want a Stanley Cup two years ago yeah probably that’s why they win because listen if you practice in the practice is harder than the game then if the game feels easy then you’re golden you know what I mean yeah you can probably think it a lot easier you’re just kind of you’re having fun you’re like oh jeez this is exctly exactly exactly that’s why tortorella’s teams always find away because they will skate you into the ground he gets thrown the like most mid ass rosters and he’s like well you [ __ ] are going to for check your way to a wild card spot boys like that’s what I said as soon as I saw that quote I was like they need him they got to trade him out grab grab torella grab torts uh last one I have here is Edmonton uh they grabbed Adam Henrik 75% retained Carrick 75% retain holy [ __ ] oh my God so when I saw the Henri trade come across my Facebook the headline on it was Edmonton Oilers makes blockbuster trade and I read into it and I’m like it’s [ __ ] Adam Henrik last time he was a blockbuster player was like five years ago and not Blockbuster but it’s a pretty good trade he’s a good player I like him I’ve always liked him Blockbuster is a bit click baity yeah yeah Blockbuster that’s who the [ __ ] did these guys get and I’m like imagine imagine your consternation when you open the article and it’s about Adam Henry he’s 34 now oh damn yeah so he he goes 75% uh retained Carrick as well I forget his name Sam Sam Carrick uh yeah because I think Conor Carrick is the forward or the defenseman rather and Sam car is the forward and they got a forward so I think it’s Sam yep so Anaheim gets a 202 first 2025 fifth uh conditional and retain 50% of Henrik and the Tampa Bay Lightning get a 2026 fourth conditional for yeah they brokered that 2% yep yeah I forgot about that so they use a little bit of their cap space to grab a a [ __ ] conditional pick so might they might not even get that well I mean it’s eating up a little cace it’s eating up a little cop space for the rest of just this season so no it’s not bad but it’s like could off this is how you know uh Adam Anri is still a really good player um he this might be inflated by an extra game because he might have played one game with Edmonton since he got traded yeah but in 63 games with this year’s Anaheim Ducks which is bad um he had 18 RS 24 assists for 42 points in 63 games that’s pretty good and the most impressive part for me is he’s a plus4 on this year’s Anaheim Ducks Team all right anybody who’s a positive player on this year’s Anaheim Ducks team is a minor miracle that’s pretty good yeah that’s not bad for sure I think I think that’ll do him real well he’s a center are they both centers uh I don’t think Sam Carrick is I mean even if he is they’ll use him as a wing they’ll be yeah so what is he slotting in at 3C on that team then prob probably I mean ideally cuz if you can have McDavid dry cidal HRI split up on different lines oh boy good luck trying to stop that Hopkins as a center too they do have NJ so they’re probably not gonna play one of those guys as a center or they’re probably not gonna play like n as a they like to put N Dry Sidle I think there you could do that or now have the option to just do the permanent nuclear option and just always have McDavid and dry CLE on the same line which might and then do nent Hopkins hre regardless they have all of the options in the world like and their Center their Center position is [ __ ] I didn’t scary I did not realize I did not realize how stacked that was holy [ __ ] that that Center depth is what we thought the kings were going to be [Music] [Music] oh
The Avalanche shipped out D Bo Byram for center Casey Mittelstadt who will likely slide in at the 2C position for them, while the Oilers add centers Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick, giving them the deepest team in the league at center, with names like McDavid, Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins also there.
