Not really, if by age 37-40 a player is still NHL worthy, not injured riddled and still signed he will play. If he’s injured all the time LTIR, if not truly NHL worthy 4th line somewhere else (Suter, Parise) or bought out.
Bonuses are a lot more sketchy to me, hey you 1 year mercenary cone in here cheap and if we go far you’ll get 2 mil in bonus that will only count next season when the cap goes up by much more … so we will be able to sign 3 other mercenaries like you to stack up (in theory).
