  1. What, not 8 years?! πŸ˜…
    Now that's an outstanding signing.
    Pay attention, lesser GMs.
    Take some notes or something.

  2. Not exactly surprised, playoffs wise he never made it far in his career before Dallas, he signed twice on the cheap for the Stars while he could of got much more elsewhere … that tells you what is his focus right now in his career … cup hunting.

    Good for him !

  3. This is the last year of Seguins $10m dollar monstrosity.
    (Benn's is done now)
They can transfer that directly to Wyatt next summer.
    Dallas will be just fine.

  4. Its smart by Duchene.
Hes made an absolute fortune. Who cares about a few extra million. He wants to finish this in Dallas. Respect to him. Happy to see it as a Dallas fan.

  5. Seriously the UFA market is getting more and more bare at this point. I'm half expecting JT to sign to a 7Γ—5mil deal leaving just Marner and Boeser as the only players to note. This offseason is going to be defined by player trades instead of UFA signings

  6. Give me the AAV in the title damn it not the total! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

  7. How can you be happy about this when you still have a big problem on the right side of you defence and no more depth in your bottom six? Keep Duchene and trade away Robertson? They need like 4 or 5 800k players in the bottom six good luck winning anything with that πŸ˜‚

  8. Credit to Duchene for signing a reasonably buy-outable contract that also doesn't have complete no move protection.
Somebody's gotta go, though. If they put no one in the press box they've got 455,000 to sign 3 guys. Realistically they need at least 4. They will pay someone not that steep a price to take Dumba, after that probably have to move Marchement.

  9. Jesse this means nothing for Toronto. Duchene is still paid by Nashville. Ppg players like Duchene and Tavares dont make 4.5m.

  10. Duchesne not making any friends in the league signing for half market value and i hope the dummy got full MNC for a discount to stay in Dallas because that contract is a guaranteed trade out of Dallas without it

  11. He could have gotten so much more on the market and no the income tax thing is not the reason. He would have surpassed the tax difference pretty much anywhere. He wanted to be there. Also helps got PAID by being bought out by Nashville.

  12. Jesse, you should have done more research. Duchene would make 6.555 556 million this year from Nashville, additional to his dallas contract, and then 1.555,556 for three more years that has to be part of the factor of him signing less.

  13. Good news. Now the leafs can point to this contract in negotiations with JT.

Same age, same point production (78, 82) and both are veterans desperate to stay where they are. I want bigger changes but if JT is staying, 5 mil is the red line.

  14. Really the only concern when it comes to Duchene is his playoff production the past 2 years. It is definitely a concern but you will be hard pressed to find another option of the same quality for that price. If we can find a way to maintain his production into the playoffs it will be another job well done by Nilll. This pushes Dallas really close to the cap so assuming the trades will be coming to clear space and retool the roster. Definitely need to make some changes but they. Should still be a good team going into the future.

  15. Nill is a master. Wish Macfarland was taking notes Duchene 3 million cheaper than Brock Nelson is insane value.

  16. Good news!! Then Dallas can be another team to find out he only performs in a contract year. They were better off giving him the one year deals. πŸ˜‚

  17. That Frederic signing looking so bad. Duchene coming off 30 goals and point per game only making 500k more than Frederic who has a career high 40 points and never even scored 20 goals

  18. That’s a great deal. Look at what the Avs just paid Brock Nelson. They’re both the same age but duchene is the better player.

  19. Dallas is definitely a place worth playing and after the trade deadline they had built a team that in all honesty should have been able to make the finals and if not them probably Colorado. Obviously something went awry in the oilers series but the oilers were not looking the the best team in the west during the regular season going in and I even thought the kings had edmontons number this year but a similar fate happened with them. Dallas will likely remain a strong team in the west next year if they’re able to strike the right deals in the offseason. There may come a time where more teams and players themselves start to recognize that you can’t win with 2-3 players eating up most of the cap space and we begin to see more good players taking less in order to help build a better roster

  20. Duchene cost JT either dollars or term if he wants to stay with the leafs – but as a leafs fan I’m
    Not complaining πŸ˜‚

  21. Worth it. 4.5 million for a player that averaged 1 point a game??

Nashville is still paying him, not state income tax and he wants to win a Stanley cup.
