Jets are definitely not putting all their eggs in one basket by the incremental bonus plan that you just finished talking about. Jonathon Toews wouldn’t put his reputation on the line if he weren’t NHL game ready to his personal standards of readiness.
Cautious Optimism. Worst case scenario, he helps the rest of the team be better as an on ice coach. He has so much cred and the mind and skills that he will have a positive effect on every player. I see him as a spot player – 12-15 minutes per game, a few minutes more or less in different games and situations. But, his best effect on the team will be in practice and the dressing room as the type of leader they need. Lows is a great guy, but he lacks the skills to be the kinda guy who says… "Watch what I do and listen to what I say". Again, Lows is one of my favourite players / flat out love the guy… but the Jets need someone who can lead by example and they have never had that. Well, JoMo does that, but he's more of the quiet kinda do things kinda guy. Having a multiple cup winner on multiple levels being able to show every player on the team how to get better is INVALUABLE.
This is absolutely beautiful. I am really looking forward to seeing him thrill with skill. Captain Serious will be flying.
I really like the Toews signing, absolutely.
He'll have a much different role than he had in Chicago however I know he'll add a lot to the team!
That said, I'm sure this is not the only "big move" Chevy is going to make.

Does the potential 5m count towards cap? I think toews would be huge for schiefelle with faceoffs. And the younguns for leadership and calmness.

There have been many 37 plus players that play at a high level. Some names Marchand with Florida , Ovechchen till what is he now forty, Inginlia , there was one from Penguins, played with Mario Lemieux . So see Toews doing could. I like to see Ehlers, Perfetti and centred by Toews that be a good line. Through that out there if it happened it, it happened

There is no negative to the bonuses. These bonuses don't count against the '25-'26 cap. They will get paid out July 1st 2026 and count against the '26-'27 cap. The Jets still have money to spend.
