Why are Hurricanes betting favourites for next year’s Stanley Cup?

Todd Fuhrman joins SC with Jay Onrait for another edition of Todd’s Odds, where they discuss his Oilers pick to win the Stanley Cup that didn’t quite pan out, 2026 Stanley Cup winner odds, why the Hurricanes find themselves at the top of those odds, how you bet against the Panthers to win a third straight Stanley Cup, where Brad Marchand may land in the offseason, and more.

  1. I’m not ready to rule out the possibility the Canes will qualify for the 2026 Stanley Cup final but that’ll mean winning more than just 1 game in a conference final.

  2. Just take the thumbs down with that question. Plain and simple. Just take it and eat it. Anyone thinking Carolina is the favorite next year is not a hockey expert. They're a clown.

  3. What are the Canucks doing on there? They're my team but no. The only team less likely to win are the Oilers. They're done, time to get back of the line.

  4. Dumb comments suggest that other teams just roll over and let Florida ride them raw. Not happening.

  5. Everyone in the comments hating are just casuals lol, Carolina can win the cup, personally I think they have the cap space to bring in a goal scorer and get them over the hump and therefore win the cup because the west sucks

  6. The West is due to win it next year. In fact, I predict a 65-70% chance. Either Colorado or Edmonton will win it. Or perhaps Dallas. And that's it. The Hurricanes are getting old and slow. The Oilers are still fast, they need a few things more in my opinion but these are not things that are staggering like say, what the Bruins or Rangers need.

  7. The best way to know what the Oilers need is to ask Paul Coffey and Corey Perry. They both won it as players and are still members of the team. McDavid and Draisaitl are by far the two best players in the world and far, far ahead of any player in the NHL that HAS NOT won a Stanley Cup yet.

  8. They have by far the easiest division with a clear path to the ECF. Once in the ECF, bettors can hedge on the other team to guarantee a profit. That’s why Carolina’s odds have to be so short.

  9. The problem for Carolina is that they play the same exact style as Florida. I say this because the panthers play this style on a whole league above the canes

  10. Fire Brind'Amour and sign DeBoer; pick up McDavid and Lehner as Goalie from Free Agency and they can get over that hump of steamrolling New Jersey, Montreal, Toronto and Washington only to Face Florida in the Conference Finals
