Dater wrong again thankfully-lol. Great decision & 3 yrs is perfect. Now instead of having to force Coyle,& Drury up to 2C,& 3C respectively-where they are AVERAGE AT BEST,(but that's probably even a bit kind)& not good enough come playoffs. But despite his struggles vs Dallas-Coyle is above average 3C,& Drury is at least above average 4C-but probably more like good. I don't think Nelson is elite 2C either but definitely above average if not good. Like the 9th to 12th ish best 2C in hockey or something like that. Definitely significantly better than what WPG,& probably Minny has. Add in Nate who's definitely elite 1C,& at least on paper show me a better 4 centers on 1 team-at least in West.
Maybe you could say Edmonton-definitely when Drasaitil plays 2C. But while it also depends where Duchene,Tavares,& Bennet end up-I don't see anybody in the Central at very least who can say they have 4 centers at least above average at their respective positions. Still a lot of work to be done but so far it's been good news since game 7. Dallas loses-they might be our daddy but NO CUPS THIS CENTURY! (only 1999) I thought Nelson was gone to Minnesota-wouldve been a double whammy. But if we had any shot-i thought we'd have to go higher than 7.5 mil or at least to 4 yrs…3 yrs is PERFECT term,& 7.5 is reasonable-especially at 3 yrs.
I wanted Bednar back but ONLY if Ray Bennet was gone. And I really wanted Nelson back,& would've grudgingly gave him 4 yrs or a bit more money but both those moves are perfect in my mind. Now ya gotta make some more tough decisions. Does Necas really want out- can't afford to let him walk next summer. Probably have to trade Girard or Manson. Id say Girard cuz stylistically he's more redundant (or at least Manson is tougher to replace with the current roster)-& he can probably get you a better haul. Maybe you can replace some of these assets if ya trade say Girard,& Necas-that may or may not be used next deadline. Great if ya could unload Wood-but won't get shit for him.
Might even have to throw in mid to llate round pick to rebuilding team but would be worth it as salary dump. Colton has to be worth something but probably only quarters on $. Does Kyrvanta come back-had a great yr,& has improved but I don't think he will ever again approach 16 goals. Id probably let him walk depending on price/term demands. And then there's Drouin. Signed a ridiculous team friendly deal last summer & has been better than I expected. But also is somewhat injury prone,& somewhat struggles with playoff physicality at times. If ya trade Necas-think it makes it far more likely ya try to bring Drouin back-depending on the haul for Necas or maybe Girard.
But resigning Brock,& keeping him from Minny & WPG is huge.(maybe Dallas if Duchene leaves)And getting a new PP voice was much needed. Wasn't remotely all Bennets fault but maybe the next guy can figure out to put Nichuskin on PP1-which SHOULD'VE been obvious. As great as Mico was,& as frustrating as blowing 3rd period leads 3 times to a team missing 2 All stars was-PP was main reason we lost. If PP was merely bad,& not atrocious-Avs win in 6 or less. It almost singlehandedly cost you a ridiculous game 3. Had 3 5 minute PP in OT,& 0 for 6 overall. And was a big factor in your game 2 OT loss,& game 7 epic meltdown,& gag.
