LONGEST SHIFT IN NHL HISTORY! #nhl #nhlhistory #hockey #newjerseydevils

On December 9th, 2022, Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils played the longest shift in NHL history against the New York Islanders. In this short, I discuss this incredible moment!

  1. I played 6v5 for an entire beer league game as the 3rd defenseman. We won 10-4. I was able to stop most long range attempts at the empty net, or they iced it. I told the my defense to pinch every time, then I backed them up. Worked great at pissing the other team off. 😂

  2. I think Alexei Kovalev played half a period once because Coach Keane was pissed at him for lolligagging back to the bench, so he just left him out there 😂 Kovalev thought coach was really happy with his play 😂

  3. Kovalev's shift – which was a punishment by Keenan – was shorter. Unreal stamina by Hughes.

  4. I played 47 out of 51 minutes in a game and only had 2 2 minute rests at 48 years old while my much younger teammates got plenty of rest. Not complaining at all.

  5. The previous record I believe belong to Alex Kovalev. Head coach of the New York Rangers, Mike Keenan at the time wanted to teach him a lesson. It wasn’t uncommon for him to stay out a little past his shift. The one game he kept him out there for nearly 5 minutes till he scored.

  7. The greatest thing that an NHL team can have is a relocated team. That way not only can they have retro Jerseys. They have Jerseys that 'pay hommage' to the former team.
How much is a Jersey these days, 2 to 400.00 bucks ? Yeahhhhhh.

  8. Uhhh not even close ! Look up the Alex kovalev shift when Mike keenan was coaching ! Legit 14 minutes 🤣

  9. I played 6 minutes in u-18… because I played defense. Defenseman always plays long shifts because we grind the boards.

  10. one time I was on the ice for an entire period cause we had only 5 people on attack and since i was the sub for another player they didn't care at all so i played like 15 minutes straight. not nhl level but that shi was hell
