Howie Long Thinks Dan Marino Is the Greatest Thrower Of The Football. #marino #nfl #dolphins

  1. Sure, Marino was a great passer. But, he had a fiery temper and often would lose his cool. As we see over history, it's the QBs that kept their cool under fire which ended up winning Superbowls. Yes, Marino went to (and lost) a Superbowl his rookie year… but the rest of his career, he barely made the play-offs. That speaks to leadership and the other intangibles of QB responsibilities.

  2. They have a comparison of Marino and Rodgers's release and accuracy, Rodgers release was faster but Rodgers also held the ball to long imo. As far as getting sacked, the game today would prolly kill him, like howie said, hardly changed snap count, would have been easily timed with much much faster defensive linemen.

  3. If Dan played in the current game, he would set records that would be untouchable. With the protection to the QB and receiver and the rules that helped Brady, Brees, Manning and now Mahomes and others with their success, Dan would have truly capitalized on that.

  4. Still top three all-time to me, with precisely zero doubt. Leadership, ridiculous passer, ultimate competitor, among the few greatest QB phenoms the game has ever seen.

  5. I agree and I think most people agree as well. He had crazy power in his arm he could throw lasers against high winds as well.

  6. There ought to be a special room in the HoF for people like Marino, Barry Sanders, Dick Butkus and such that never won a ring. Heck, we could send a ring with membership, the “We still love you” award.

  7. Marino showed up 2 years too late with the Dolphins. They went to the Superbowl previously with a guy named David Woodley. No defense like they had earlier.

  8. It's a shame Marino never won a Super Bowl. I think it's why he seems to be overlooked in all-time greats lists.

  9. I’m on an island on this one, especially online, but I don’t like the knee-jerk GOAT take that simply counts rings. To me a combo of individual stats and the simple eye test are the better metric. Montana said Marino was the GOAT.
Hard for me to say that I’ve better throwers than him and Rodgers in his prime.

  10. I swear marino came into my restaraunt while I was serving tables but would not admit it was him.. it looked.. exactly like him. He told me "Oh I get that a lot". He was with a hot wife and his kids. I don't even know if he has kids but – in my mind it was definitely dan marino. He was nice too.

  11. He picked the 85 Bears defense (Monsters of the Midway) apart during the regular season, but then the Dolphins lost to the Patriots in the playoffs and didn't make the S.B.🤔

  12. In today's game, Marino would probably throw for 7 thousand yards in a Season 🐬I may be exaggerating but 6,500 passing yards isn't too far to reach for Marino. In the 80's He threw for 48 TD's. He can throw for 60+ TD's in today's game

  13. No pre-snap motion is interesting. Not changing the snap count probably less of a factor given he was rarely sacked and his quick release. Pre-snap motion though could be very helpful for reading defense's coverage.

  14. As a fin fan my dad grew up watching Dan and let me just say I agree 100% if Dan was the fins Qb now the numbers he’d have would be just unreal, the best Qb to not win a ring

  15. Dudes seasonal passing numbers in the 90s would still lead the league in passing today. That’s how beastly Marino was
