The Day After: Edmonton Oilers 1, Florida Panthers 5 Discussion | FLA Wins 4-2

After last season’s rally from a 3-0 deficit in the Stanley Cup Final ended in Game 7 heartbreak for the Edmonton Oilers, their 2025 rematch against the defending champions ultimately ended in similar fashion on Tuesday night with a 5-1 defeat in Game 6, falling 4-2 in the series. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were held off the scoresheet, Stuart Skinner struggled in goal, and the depth couldn’t show up on time to help Edmonton force a game 7.

Austin Hockey discusses the series as a whole and talks about the future of the channel and upcoming content in today’s Day After Discussion. #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

  1. I know what I’m doing, I’m just going to be done watching hockey in general, another season of this will give me a heart attack

  2. I'm a North Carolina native and was at game 7 in 2006 vs Edmonton when the Hurricanes won. Hoping for that rematch next year with Edmonton.

  3. I don't think Hyman would have won them the cup, but we lost so much without him. His work ethic is off the chart. 😢

  4. Edmonton is going to struggle with depth when Drai and Mcdavid are going to cost close to $30m for 2 players.

  5. Austin, that was my thought again last night – how did they come out so flat in game 5. They were so close to bringing Stanley back here and that's the effort. Thank you for not being toxic positive and thanks for all your livestreams. Your integrity and inclusiveness always shone through.

  6. I see a Gretzsky style trade next year for McDavid. If he's not happy with Oilers progress next year he'll be gone and Oilers would have nothing to show for it. So I think the best thing for both sides is to trade him.

  7. As far as dominant teams during my lifetime, I grew up under the oppression of the 80s Oilers. My Canucks stood no chance of getting out of the Smythe during that time. I also witnessed the Islanders but they were way over on the other side of the continent. There were also the Bruins, Flyers and Habs of the 70s. Dynasties were good and bad at the same time.

  8. Oilers like the Leafs have about . 50% of their cap on a number of under performing playoff players.

Defense and goaltending wins in the playoffs. Florida has this advantage over Edmonton and Toronto in spades.

Edmonton is lucky, they don't have Florida in their division. Hence the Leafs never making it past the 2nd round

  9. Austin game 5 and 6 Oilers had nothing to give , I'm still lost for words, I know Florida has a great team but, Oilers had nothing to give,.Oilers are confused and say they want to soak it up to what really happened or what didn't. We all knew and wanted change before the trade deadline, bottom line we know , McDavid knows and Draisaitl knows we need to make change to win the cup, and Bowman may be in that change just because at the deadline he did nothing to beef things up.Just my perspective!

  10. Austin, I don't want to advertise your competitors here 😁- but maybe this is a good tip for you too?!

Do you know "Inside the Coaches' Room"? Former NHL Video Coach, Steve ā€œPeteyā€ Peters goes to the video to break down the goals in the games.

Whether that's necessary today is another question. šŸ™‚
But he's really good at explaining tactics. I've really learned a bit more about hockey from you both.

    Take care,
    see youā˜

  11. Good Work Austin!! I’ve been here since almost the beginning! Oilers Fan for 43 years šŸ’Ŗ.
Very disappointed today, but what can you do? Next season starts fresh, so we will just have to see how it goes.

  12. ā€œThe Oilers are a flawed great teamā€ man I couldn’t agree with you more ;(
legit feel like after game 3 the writing was on the books, I even started to think the result of game 4 was an absolute miracle, I know they can always comeback but that probably was not supposed to happen šŸ˜… it sucks more than last year cuz we could’ve won in 2024, this year Florida was clearly a better team. Thanks for all the content throughout the 2025 season Austin šŸ™‚ let’s see what’s in the hands of the Oilers front office in this offseason, have a nice summer!!

  13. Game 3 Skinners horrible stick side was found by FL. After that they pulled him the Panthers bullied the two good players and everyone else got exposed.

  14. Heck they did worse, they should have been swept!! if not for a couple of good second periods to cause an overtime win, they would have lost four straight. They got smoked, they did not show up. Say what you want about the goal tender, their defense sucked. They need to stand up and look in the mirror Plus Conner was a no show…Same thing happened when Edm played Fla in the regular season, they got smoked…. They have nothing for what Fla brings. Bottom line One team wants it and has people that will do what ever it takes within a system to get the job done… The Oilers DO NOT… Simple….

  15. Skinner said in his post game that the game 2 OT loss essentially broke the team mentally and it showed. (Also that double OT goal wasn't flukey, marchand got his own rebound and got it in) Also Bouch needs to go. If we sign Bouch/McDavid….we have like 1-2 mil left in cap space unless there's big moves. Lets not be the leafs 2.0

  16. The Oilers are a great team--you DO NOT GET TO THE FINAL 2 YEARS IN A ROW UNLESS YOUR A GREAT TEAM…… They will make the neccassary changes– STAN BOWMAN is a experienced GM……. Losing Holloway/Broberg/mcleoud/ Fogel should NEVER have happened……. The Oilers will rise again—- THEY have a TRADITION FOR WINNING & GETTING THE JOB DONE. Once an OILER ALWAYS AN OILER……

  17. As an Oiler fan I think that it is awesome that the Oilers made it to Stanley Cup finals 2 years in a row.

  18. EDIT: I hear about Nuge’s hand. Sorry Nuge, love you!

I’m not exactly surprised. The Oilers really loosened their grip when it was clear that they were thoroughly outmatched by Florida.

The team capital N needs a bonafide starter. Nothing against Stu or Picks, but, the team needs a goalie that can make timely saves. No more, no less.

The depth situation needs addressing. Players like Janmark, J skinner, Arvi, and Henrique — I think they need to go. The team needs cap space to get a goalie. The team needs younger players. That’s that.

    See you soon!

  19. this was the oilers last chance at the cup. there will b no cap space left for a team or a new goalie. its all down hill from here. blame it on management bowman/jackson/nicholson and whoever didn't sign zito? what a mess of a team going forward this is gonna be. and with bowman/jackson/nicholson in charge, nobody can help the oilers now. may as well wait for another mcdavid, oh but those clowns probably traded all our #1 picks too?

  20. Hi Franklin and Kitty Kitty!

Austin, I have so much respect for the way you talk hockey. Really unbiased and valid points no matter what team you were discussing. We definitely got to see some great hockey (and maybe a few not so great games)

Will be interesting to see what happens at the trade deadline!

  21. I think we need a break from talking about the oiler boys….id be happier just hearing about your cats at this point. Thanks for making this playoff run so enjoyable Austin!

  22. You have to understand that Florida did what ever other team did, build and they didn’t go the way of Arizona Coyotes. Teams just have to keep building, be patient, train, practice and your team whoth time will evolve and elevatetheir game so that they can get the Stanley Cup.

  23. What next? Jeff (liver-lips) Jackson must admit he botched hiring knob. Fire him, get an N.H.L. coach and get an N.H.L goalie. Keep Pickard as a backup because the team plays well in front of him. ANY QUESTIONS?

  24. If Kane ever wears a oilers jersey again idk what’s wrong with knoblauch and bowman’s heads

  25. We should have taken the cup last year. It was a different outing this year.we were outclassed, outplayed and they had a better goalie in Bobrovski. Congratulations Panthers and Panthers fans

  26. I forgot to mention how awesome you are Austin. I always look forward to your input on everything about the Oilers and their counterparts. Looking forward to what the future holds for us. Thank you Austin.šŸ‘

  27. Honestly, the Oilers got further than I expected. At the start of the playoffs, I thought they’d be knocked out by L.A. All those injuries, no time to gel, didn’t know who’d be in the lineup, etc.
This offseason, I would expect management to try and find a winger for Draisaitl’s line, a solid right D man and, maybe, an established goalie (almost impossible). McDavid and Draisaitl were too one-dimensional against Florida and they MUST be split up. They need to have a solid, established, top 6. Right now, you have maybe a top 4 (if you count Nuge and Hyman). Knoblauch had to constantly change the lineup and that doesn’t bode well for building chemistry nor consistency.
I could type a novel about the Oilers but I think I’ll end it here.
Thanks for the awesome channel, Austin. I really enjoyed being part of the community.

  28. LOVE YOU AUSTIN! See you next season!!!! This sucks but whatever. HOPEFULLY WE WILL BE CALLED THE START AND FINISH TEAM NEXT PLAYOFFS AND NOT THE COMEBACK KINGS

  29. Hyman loss was big. It forced us to change the lines at every level and we couldn’t figure out lines that worked all series. His hitting was essential to our potential success against the panthers.. might not have mattered. We had no answer for anything they did. We were lucky to get 2 wins.. I could rant all day. Thanks for a great season Austin. Looking forward to your content in the future. Cheers.
