How can Canadiens protect the lead better?

How can the Canadiens protect their lead better in their series against the Capitals? How does Martin St. Louis get Patrik Laine going after benching him for the entire third period in Game 2? How can Montreal get back in this series? TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss.

  1. Protect the lead? They had a 1–0 lead. Scoring more goals is a much bigger concern than trying to hold a 1–0 lead, lol.

  2. Canadiens give up to many odd man rushes when their defencemen take the puck in deep…they are getting caught way behind the play on offensive attacks that are not available…and giving Washington easy momentum

  3. Habs gotta punch their own ticket to round 2…. that said, the reffing has been atrocious. Gallagher has almost lost teeth two games in a row (no call), and Caufield took a stick to the jaw that cut him this game (no call). Their PP hasn't been great, but 2 more chances might have evened this one up.

  4. Put in Arber Xhekaj, St.Louis is a great rebuilding coach but doesn't have what it takes right now to take a team through the playoffs

  5. Tsn starting to lose credibility in this series. Theyre trying extremely hard to spin this series as if montreal is having leads all series amd have been dominant. It was a 1-0 lead in the first period. Is there anywhere else on earth thays talking about holding 1-0 leads in the first.

  6. Laine has 5 even strenght goals in 52 games amd 2 of thise were 3 on 3. Laine is uskess 5 on 5 and when hes useless on the powerplay than hes just completely useless

  7. they are being thoroughly out coached right now. Playoffs are a Great experience for the young guys and expose weaknesses of a team. Right now, coaching is a big weakness

  8. People stop finding excuse the capital are just a better team and they play better thats all there nothing they can do they just need to take the experience and build from there🤷🏾‍♂️

  9. Listen. If the bigger and stronger team is ALSO allowed to play outside the rules of the game it's not a fair contest and The Habs cannot compete. Imagine a boxing match where one guy that is bigger already is ALSO allowed to hit the oppenent before AND after the bell at will with no recourse? Call the charging, interference and cross checking and The Habs win this in 4 no question. This isn't just an NHL issue; officiating has made it impossible to care about professional sports too much because they are all inept and/or inconsistent.

  10. The caps are just a better more experienced team. Habs are the youngest team in league history to make the playoffs. Our second best centerman right now is either Christian Dvorak or Jake Evans lol. The first line is legit but were still missing a good 2c to play behind Suzuki, as well as need another top 6 player to play in place of Laine. Demidov is just getting his feet wet having 2 games NHL experience coming into playoffs, give this kid 2-3 years and he is the habs best player offensively I have no doubt. Still have the likes of Michael Hage, Reinbacher, Fowler to develop along with guys like Hutson, Slaf, Caufield figuring how to play in this league.

There is no panic, all of these games are good lessons, lets see if the habs learned anything from games 1-2 and see if they can apply it to games 3-4 at home.

Im sure teams like Buffalo, Detroit, etc would love to be in Montreals shoes in terms of where we are at in the rebuild.

  11. Missed crosscheck that lead to an icing and game winner in game one. Missed crosscheck to face in game 2.

This needs to be addressed. Best league in the world? Laughable.

Meanwhile refs call ticky tack hooking penalties from the opposite end of the rink
