Tavares feels like a leaf. He also feels like the captain. Matthews feels like he would rather be somewhere else in a role where his only responsibility is to score and there’s less pressure on him to carry a team. I don’t think he wants to win the way McDavid wants to win. Like McKinnon wants to win. I think marner would like to be a leaf and wishes circumstances are different but knows that the bridge is burning and unless he can do more than produce a solid regular season, leafs fans won’t be happy

Leafs have no trading chips except Cowan, so a trade is out of the question. Bennett an JT are the only UFA centers that are top notch, that's the options.
You guys are dreaming if you think Tavaras is signing for 4 mil a year. Scores 30 plus goals per year and almost a point per game. He easily gets 7 to 8 mil per year in free agency. This is a business on both sides.
Hey fellas – At what point can we have a legitimate conversation about knowingly taking a step back in 25'-26'. I know there's Matthews and Nylander and the "window" or whatever but like… there is nothing about the FA class that suggests the Leafs will be better + change their DNA + make playoffs + dispel the narratives of playoff losses/disappointments. In no world does this happen.

Given free agency options, one of the better scenarios is Leafs pro scouting finding a 3C they think can rise to a 2C, and maybe re-sign Tavares for 3C.

Tavares is an integral part of the team's DNA that has to change. John is a true professional and while I appreciate his years of service, it's time to move on…..This is the perfect storm that allows the cap space to bring balance and depth across the roster. We've been held hostage by No Move contracts for far too long…. The team's that run deep in the playoffs have 2 Stars, a red hot goalie and depth on all 4 lines. Sprinkle in a few junk yard dogs, adopt a Pack mentality. Balance is the key…..for playoff hockey……I don't remember reading about the Panthers or the Oilers asking about Mitch's or John's availability at the trade deadline…….Nobody saw the Marchand @ 37 leaving Boston and heading to Florida……How's that working out?

Im a Tavares fan but it's too late to take a home Town discount lol. 11 million dollars was an insane number that many years ago and was a huge part of the reason the leafs have been unsuccessful
Yes I want JT back. He is a great hockey player in the regular season and effective in the playoffs. Just need a better cap hit. I would sign him for 3 years 7 mil tops. Maybe convince him to take 4-5M if you can offer him a pathway into an executive foll after he retires.
