2000-01 NHL Minnesota WILD vs Boston Bruins
ready to drop the puck in North Station the Fleet Center here tonight a Saturday night tilt as XL Energy presents Hockey Night in Minnesota the only meeting of this inaugural season from the Fleet Center as the Minnesota Wild are set to take on one of the original six they will face off against the Boston Bruins fans are in the seats and we are ready for hockey right here on KMSB along with my partner Tom Reed I’m Dwight Goldberg and welcome once again to Wild Hockey back inside the Fleet Center here in Boston Massachusetts Saturday night hockey and we get started with our Wells Fargo goalending matchup manny Fernandez in the pipes tonight well he’s one of those guys that brings the leadership with this club 10 games he’s had this year with this hockey club and you look at his record 35 and one the other end you have Byron Defo who gets a call also he’s played in his third straight game after missing 11 with a hamstring pull so the faceoff is underway and we are set to go west Walls takes the opening draw against Jason Allison allison the captain here in Boston on the line with Phil Garren and Sergey Samson off on the left wing puck is dumped in by Darren Vanip sean O’Donnell in the wild in the road uniforms again this evening coming off the loss less than 24 hours ago at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres paul Coffee the future Hall of Famer wearing number 74 in a Boston uniform he is at the blue line with Vanimp and the puck squirts into the zone and stays there off the stick of wall bill Garin wearing number 13 as Allison tried to cross the line garren bumps into West Wall and it is sent behind the net of Manny Fernandez allison collides as does big Don Sweeney and out the other way will be Shawn O’Donnell good lead pass to Jeff Nielsen he’s ahead of the play dragged down and there will be a penalty called and the Wild will have a power play just 59 seconds into this contest tom take a look at tonight’s Polaris keys to the game well the the start is so important for both of these hockey clubs as we all always know but offensive pressure has to be applied by the Wild they need to put the pressure under that defensive zone this is an area that the Bruins have really had trouble they also have to stay out of the penalty box we know how important it is for this team to be on the ice at even strength boston has to be strong in their own end they’ve had some problems back there timing advantage they’re playing against the Wild who are playing two games in two nights and also they’ve had a number of injuries and those players just coming back you look also here look at this long pass by O’Donnell right up the middle and a perfect play also as you try to get into position neielson does that gets in there but he’s also hauled down and so with that call will come a power play opportunity for the Wild mike Keenan in his first year as the head coach of the Boston Bruins sixth NHL team that he has guided jacqu La Mer on the other bench here this evening and Don Sweeney picked up the minor penalty as Neielson had a wonderful scoring opportunity in the power play is on for the Minnesota Wild just a minute into this contest wild have not scored a road power play goal in this inaugural season everyone knows that stat all too well be a heck of a night to get it here saturday night hockey at the fleet center venison throws it behind the net and it is played there to Scott Pellerin pellerin Stacy Roose and Maxim Sushinsky with Bombader and Benick left for Pellerin scott Pellerin looked to get the puck into the neutral ice area rston clears it all the way down jacqu Lamair wasting no time in getting Pellerin and also Shazinski right on the ice after both of these players have sat out for a few games with injuries speaking of sitting out Sergey Ka after missing the last 15 games with a knee injury taking his first shift of the night turned over there is Dixon Ward just signed recently as a free agent by the Bruins played the last couple of seasons with the Buffalo Sabres curtis decision tries to move it ahead to Creasoff creassoff to Peter Bartos play is on side coffee Bartos on him puck will be kept in by Seek sris to Leision leision a drive knocked down nicely by Dixon Ward and cleared out once again by the Bruins good play by Ward just going down using his body in front of that puck to take the shot away from Leision penalty kill for the Bruins this year ranked about in the middle of the pack of the National Hockey League ranked 17th in the NHL long high shot glove by the foe he plays it off the glass out towards Andy Sutton kept in nicely looking for laxin in but the Bruins able to poke it to center one more time 17 seconds left Tom and the minor penalty against Don Sweeney and not a lot of pressure put on by the Wild here right now one of the reasons for that is the Bruins skating very hard in the first few moments of this period into the zone comes Steve McKenna he powers by Hal Gil stacy Roose steve McKenna now Matt Johnson bangs in puck back on the near side sweeny’s out of the box both teams in even strength ear with the pass across to Sha Bates bates leaves it thrown behind Fernandez and on the near side Matt Johnson will play johnson ahead picked up by Stacy Roose fired on to Fo and that one sneaks behind the net coffee will pick it up paul Coffee missed the last four games with a concussion suffered against the Atlanta Thrashers here is Garren with speed through center shot deflects off of Bomb Veneer and wide of Manny Fernandez played on the near side boards by Garrett sent behind to Allison allison looked to center to Samson now it is Samson stick handling he is good with the puck in close quarters allison looked to get it to Samson kept in by Vanimp vanimp and coffee at the blue line shot by Garrett big save made by Manny Fernandez now Neielen back out of the zone up ahead looking for West Walls walls spent a couple of seasons in a Boston Bruin uniform in the early 90s he was one of their top prospects antie Laxon and also with a Boston tie we have an icing and a stoppage 1548 remains in the first tom Wild look like this this evening for Jacqu Lamair well I tell you Jacques has really had his hands full these last couple of weeks with the injuries they’ve had but you can see putting Cass off on that first line up on the right wing position and they’re trying to get some firepower in each one of these lines so Jinski in that third line he can put the puck in the net barto scores his force goal first goal the other night and of course with a fellow like Ka Crassoff you want to have a player of that stature in the line because he he can bring that element of surprise to this team as you mentioned he’s been out with that knee injury but watching today in practice he seems fully ready to go now he’s got to be jumping at the bit cuz Sergey Krassoff has only played five games here this season for the Minnesota Wild sushinsky leaves it for Darby Hendrickson wild cycling with Pellerin Hendrickson and Sushinski sweeney misses Sushinski he wants the wraparound rebound shot he scores maximum Sushinski has made it one nothing Minnesota well that’s what I was talking about i felt like Suzinski can bring that offensive power to this team he didn’t have just one chance at it Mike mike he had three chances very small but I tell you he’s fleet of foot he’s got that quick acceleration and a short distance his greatest strength is along the boards and also in front of that net you watch here as he’ll take the the puck right here and he just battles away through the check keeps on going tries the wraparound look at Defo he’s right off to the side there he makes the first save the second save no reason he should get that third shot the Boston defenders being very slow and that’s where the pressure I was talking about if they can get to that Boston defense Minnesota can win this hockey game they’ve got to continue to apply that pressure fifth goal of the season first goal since he had the two goals against the Tampa Bay Lightning back on October 18th so Maxim Sujinski gets the scoring started here in favor of Minnesota at 4:35 of the first period of play good cycling good hustle the Wild able to keep the puck deep in the zone get around the veteran Don Sweeney and Susinsky has lit the lap here early for the visiting team bates crosses the line bates looks to leave it for Eer and Darby Hendrickson will control for the Wild hendrickson across the red line dumps it in where Byron Defoe will hold defo flips it up the boards bombadier tries to keep it in flipped out nope up and almost out of play and picked up now by Big Cal Gill [Applause] towards the net of Manny Fernandez and played to the near side up near Jim Dow icing and a stoppage 1425 on the clock in the first mike Keenan the head coach has a new weapon bill Garren on the top line with Jason Allison and Sergey Samson off well when you look at that first line also they call it the gas line gas for short but some are saying if they don’t go well it may be the SAG line the opposite of that but this is a team that has got some firepower they’ve got some tremendous depth at center ice with Allison and Thornton leading the way right there back in the point is where they’re having their problems the defense even though it’s not a young defense an older defense they just are having a lot of problems keeping the puck out of their net in fact they are the second most scored against team in the National Hockey League behind Anaheim 65 goals against this year the Boston Bruins who are coming off an overtime heartbreaking loss Thursday in this building to the New Jersey Devils the Devils tied the score with 154 on the clock and won it with just seconds remaining in overtime as last year’s rookie of the year Scott Gomez scored the game-winning goal well Mike Keenan’s arrival replacing Pat Burns has brought mixed results so far here to this Boston Bruins team who was tremendous two years ago and absolutely horrendous last year with just 24 victories and only 12 of those coming at home sutton will play it deep in his own zone and as you know this is a very tough place to play a lot of pressure put on by the media and the fans in this building if you don’t uh succeed last Stanley Cup 1972 the hit parade is started on this Saturday night on KMSB [Music] master locations good tickets still remain for games versus Calgary in Vancouver during Thanksgiving weekend 651-989-5151 or log on at ticketmaster.com wild control the draw sean O’Donnell in the wild lead one to nothing maximum Sujinski his fifth bowl of the year at 435 of the first period scott Pellerin in his first game back after missing the last three with a bruised shoulder picks up the lone assist so they did tonight what they did last night at the Marine Midland Arena in Buffalo and that is score the game’s first goal last night it was Bartos tonight it is Sushinsky garren Allison the gas line as Tom told us is on the ice here for the Bruins neielen goes down play will go right on and the puck is taken by the veteran Don Sweeney now the longest serving member of this Boston Bruins team just signed a new three-year contract surish has it inside the neutral zone area tried to dump it in deep the puck will come to the near side boards west Walls will get there first and he flips it in past Sweeney good for check by Cardos gets a hit on his man Bill Garren sweeney will bring it up the near side boards ryan Rston played in the CCHA at Lake Superior State he goes down trying on the forche and the puck is not able to be kept in by Cutlick cut looks to get it across dow steps in jim Dow across the line dow spins top of the circles looking for a passing lane creveroff across shot oh my goodness antie Latin had a wideopen goal pretty looking passing play shot again to F will hold on but Creveroff took his time there Tom pretty play as Jim Dow does battle with Hal Gil in front but Creassoff looks good on his first couple of shifts well good good passing play all the way around here we’ll watch Dow as he comes in over the blue line controls a puck and that’s what you want look at Krie Croff how quickly he got that puck takes a little step to his left takes a look right across ice and almost put it right on the money here and you can see Laxton almost putting it away right in behind the net miner the folk coming across he cannot get there laxon just a little bit off target plenty of room to shoot at but just a little bit too quick to release it but boy Minnesota doing a very good job of putting the pressure on in this first period they’ve had six shots on net and allowed the Bruins to just one shot against Manny Fernandez pa off as we mentioned missing the last 15 games he is scoreless this season and coming in as far as credentials of a goal scorer Priasoff is the most wellrespected in this Minnesota lineup lots of chances early shot saved by Defo byron Defoe trying to erase last year’s mistakes and be an allstar like he was the year prior but once again Tom the Wild with good pressure his last slap benick skates down the loose puck stacy Roosten on Gil the Po likes to work with the puck uses the stick very well pel across to Sushki and it was knocked off his stick by the big man Hal Gil here’s Mike Kenubal former Ranger former Redwing and he leaves it behind taken there by Dixon Ward on the near side boards now sent towards net by big Ken Balier and Manny Fernandez will freeze mike what I like in this first period so far is the aggressiveness of the Minnesota Wild they are taking their bodies they’re finishing off these checks but they’re winning the little battles so those pucks along the boards first faceoffs have been very good for this team early on just uh with a little over eight minutes gone in period number one but they do not appear to be tired after their tough game in Buffalo last night and anytime you play against the Buffalo Sabres you’re going to have some bumps and bruises the next day darby Hendrickson knows that very well when he played in Toronto Vancouver they used to go into Marine Midland Arena and they were beat up after that stacy Roose two goals on the year like to get his third here tonight in the Fleet Center mike Goldberg Tom Reed our fine crew from KMSP glad to be with you on a Saturday night for a little bit of hockey in the upper Midwest both the centermen may get tossed here [Music] bates and Hendrickson neither will talk our linesman Lits out of tossing them out of the circle mike Hass in France brian Murphy are referees this evening darren Vanimp has checked on the play looks to center never a shot towards net but PJ Axelson the 25-year-old four-year Boston Bruins veteran had the puck two-line pass is called and once again a whistle and a stoppage well you want those players that can make a difference am one of those young young guys at 25 years of age it’s kind of a lightweight at 176 lbs you go against guys who are much bigger than him it makes it a little more difficult mike Keenan knows full well that he’s got to have players like this who can get into the fold very very durable great work ethic also this youngster out of Sweden finished plus in the 1999 2000 season for this club which a lot of players did not that’s one of the things I’ve noticed here too Mike is the fact that this team even though they have some very top scores their top scores are very minus and that’s that is not good when they’re when you’re 9 10 11 uh below in that minus column you want to make sure that you’ve got plenty of points to make up for that but you’ve got to look at that as kind of a barometer now when you’re 29th in the league in goals against that will mean that you have a lot of players that are out for a lot of your opponent’s goals tom as you mentioned only the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim have allowed more goals so far this hockey season 65 goals against including an 8-3 loss not that long ago to the Atlanta Thrashers which was in one of Mike Teen’s first games as head coach didn’t go over very well pass in front big Andre Kovaleeno was looking to pull the trigger couldn’t do so and a good hit on the play by Brian Rston thornton is on this second line now joe Thornton kovaleeno rston this is a Boston Bruin team that has pretty darn good size one of the bigger teams in the league turned over at the blue line dowed looked to get it to Antie Laxin laxin at number 24 tried to get it past Sergey Samson off glove by Kovaleeno and the puck squirts its way back to center here is Allison with time jason Allison circles right near the blue line sends it into Samson sweeny’s in the play garren’s at the blue line now garren trying to sneak in looking for a passing lane allison give and go to Samson never got the shot away samson Gilly D and a big backhand and a chess save made by Manny Fernandez lumir Sec towards Laxin off of his stick and picked up by Yarno Pulin fton in the 27y old rookie finish garren over skates the puck o’donnell has it to lack it in towards Neielson neielson controls with speed around the outside shot and it is wide of the net of Byron Defoe here is Garren now allison picks up the loose puck backhands it towards Samson off he had to wait for the pass and an offside is called Zushinsky the only goal so far i hope it’s a big prize i think it is overnight package log on at wild.com to try to answer that question properly behind the net the Wild will work it seven shots for Minnesota just three for the Boston Bruins here midway point of the first period of play sent way out of the zone it’ll be skated down by Paul Coffee and an icing will be called 74 Paul Coffee wearing the Boston uniform this year first time since 1978 that Ray Bourke did not open the season on the blue line we talked about it in Colorado coffee and Bourke two of the greatest of all time Tom but very different type players well they are when you look at a a player like Paul Coffee I remember the All-Star game he saying to his goalender it was “Thanks for being part of our team but you won’t see me anymore.” That tells you right away how offensive-minded he can be it he also won the Norris Trophy as the best defenseman in the NHL in 85 86 and 95 and four Stanley Cups to his credit he’s just been a tremendous performer in it 39 years of age he has bounc bounced back from that concussion playing in just his first game now that four next to Stanley Cups the big difference between Paul Coffey’s career and Ray Port’s career down goes Stacy Roost he and Axelson were tied up be interesting to see which one they are actually going to get it’s going to be holding the stick is the call but against whom well both players are skating away but now Roose is heading towards the penalty box and he’s not saying so much i I think when he fell backwards he tried to make it look like Axel was hanging on to him that was not the case and so Stacy will get the penalty call that coming at 11 minutes and 2 seconds of the first period take a look at along the boards here you’ll see him as he comes into action together watch how he’ll grab on with his left hand right here see how he’s hanging on and then he lets go look like a little bit of the all-star wrestling move there now there is Joe Thornton he is the leading power play goal producer on this hockey team he may come out with the second power play unit on fire eight power play goals in fact eight of his nine goals this season have been with the man advantage trails Keith Kachchuck by one goal for power play goal leader in the National Hockey League bruce goes down at 11:02 as Tom told you holding the stick is the call so Garren will get a chance on the power play allison is a big body that can go in front of the net and Sergey Samson off part of what has been a very good power play this year because of the efforts of Thornton with eight power play goals allison with five the Bruins fifth in the NHL in their power play efforts so far this season they comparing Garren to at least on the power play efforts to what Cam Neely used to do get in front of the net which will be different than he did in Edmonton because Ryan Smith had that job Tom but he’ll get that body in front of the net as will that man 41 Jason Allison from time to time is in deep in the zone now Garren has it flips it over to Sergey Samson off back to Bill Garren Garren behind the net looking and waiting gives it to the tape of Allison Allison the captain to Coffee Coffee right back Jason Allison leads the NHL in power play points this year down deep Samson looking defeated to Garen O’Donnell all over Sergey Samson and a penalty is going to be called one hit too many by Shaun O’Donnell and we will have 61 seconds of a five on three for Boston well when you’re playing short hand the last thing you want is to draw another penalty as you mentioned with over a minute remaining in the first penalty a twoman advantage is a big plus for the Boston Bruins the assistant captain Sha Odell called for the cross check and he just comes a little bit too hard right here what there’s a little shove there and then another another little push there and there’s the reason for the penalty that last shot right into the the back of Samson who is 5’8″ 180 lbs draws the attention of the referee jacques Laame Mer has told his team time and time again “If you’re going to take penalties take smart penalties don’t put us in a hole.” Now the Bruins have scored five goals this year when they have had the five on three opportunity three on five the Wild have been scored upon twice this season so Samson off able to draw the penalty and it’s a five on three here for 1 minute and 1 second as the Wild hold on to a one- nothing lead garren Thornton Samson off Allison and Brian Rston so five forwards on the ice here tom Allison gets it to Rston rston to Samson samson he wants Thornton back to the point instead now they’ll switch to the forehand side allison with the big shot capability brings it back around the net allison looked to feed it now it trickles to the point there is Brian Rollston rollston fakes the shot down to Thornton thornton in front garren couldn’t get a shot away dowed is on the penalty kill so is Bombardier a drive and it’s knocked down off the foot of Benick benick limping towards it can’t clear the zone rston fakes looks waits thornton has it thornton tried the one-time to Garren miscommunication first game played together for those two Bruins well that’s where the pressure comes on right now they can hear that crowd booing just a little bit they’re trying to get the puck in position but have not been able to get the shot to the net allison gains the zone pellerin trying to chase him down now it’s Brian Rston rston has it crowd becoming impatient 5 seconds left on the first minor against Minnesota thor look save made by Fernandez decision trying to clear the puck it takes a wild carum it’s under Scott Pellerin momentarily stacy Roose good play out of the penalty box clears the zone 50 seconds left on the penalty against Shawn O’Donnell five on four hockey here good coverage by the threesome out there by the Wild to kill off the first of those two penalties never a really good shot against Manny Fernandez on that five on three garren is still on the ice a long shift here with the man advantage antie Laxin throws it up and Garren looks for it laxin on Bill Garren well I tell you Laxon has really come into his own as a as a complete hockey player he’s one of those guys that kind of sits on the outside and all of a sudden you notice him great speed great agility always finishes his check colton leaves it for coffee coffee to the near sideboards bal Bal looks to get it across the blue line area kovaleeno trying to hold on to down here is Bombader bombir stepping in bombader across and Hendrickson couldn’t get a feel for it now it’s taken by the Bruins but a good kill by the Wild they killed off 1 minute and 1 second of five on three power play time for the Boston Bruins stacy Roost out of the box still on the ice here is Sutton sutton in the neutral zone gets it ahead towards Darby Hendrickson picked up by Sergey Krassov he’s bumped on the play hard by Don Sweeney now Mike Canuba bodies Darby Hendrickson and Stacy Roose will pick up the loose puck roose trying to work inside the Bruins zone shot into traffic penalty forthcoming it will go against Sweeney again as he hammered Neielen in front of Byron Defoe good penalty kill by the Wild they’ll get their turn on the power play when we come back like it was going to be a power play for Minnesota that’s not the case the Wild will also call for a penalty shazinski is going to serve a penalty a bench penalty for too many men on the ice so that uh that’s a opportunity that was just taken away now the penalty goes against Sweeney for the hit in front of the net jeff Nielsen missed a couple of games with the concussion after the hit by Calgary steve Smith he played well last night Tom and he has played well in his first couple of shifts here again today antilackin and goes down hard in front of Byron the foe i think you caught a little bit of a sick there standing by the net when you when you get in front of the net and you’re trying to position yourself so often you may get an errand stick that comes up or players trying to get a piece of you see right now Don Fo the Fuller the athletic therapist out there with him now was an eighthround pick back in 97 of the Boston Bruins coming from the University of Denver last year he split time with the Bruins 27 games played here and 40 in Providence now he’s back and he gets hit in the What right here coming across yeah yeah you see that and I’m surprised that none of the officials saw that but he took a pretty good shot up high he was trying to come in behind the defenseman and defenseman just a little bit flatfooted tried to reach out and grab onto him about the stick up play for the Bruins couple seasons so did Wes Walls connection there cam Stewart four years in the Bruins organization is on the injured reserve cam Stewart one of the many banged up Minnesota Wild players not in the lineup on this road trip marian Gabri also back home scott Peller returned for the first time in a couple of games philip Kuba out of the lineup again here today christian Matt was officially sent back down to Cleveland if you’re scoring at home coffee across the line as Pellerin is back in the lineup tonight by Shawn O’Donnell walston on the forche near side board big Joe Thor and it’s bounced out by Lumir Seek man going down Nurman also was sent down today back to Cleveland some ups and downs blue is the healthy scratch here tonight not a lot of healthy bodies remaining to be scratched in this lineup Jeff Nielsen is back Jim Dow has been healthy knock on wood so far this hockey season across the line comes Sergey Samson Samson had a poke away nicely by Latislav Benic zenov played one year coming from Russian in the IHL with the Detroit Vipers was one of the two top picks with Joe Thornton a couple of years back on this Boston Bruin team samson off on the forche bombader wanted it centered and the only one there was Jim Dow in the wild under four minutes remains here in the first period of play dumped into the zone neielson will give chase cutlick on Neielson [Music] so Dennick Cutlick behind the net working hard and coming away with the loose puck playing in just his fourth game this season samson off across Samson off trying to stick handle it is controlled now by Curtis Vision big loss on the blue line this year for the Boston Bruins has been Kyle McLaren who suffered a major knee injury he may be out another month or so he’s only played eight of the first 20 or so games of this Boston season garren in his first in a Boston uniform garren looked to center onto Kovaleeno stick kaleno spent some time in Edmonton with Billy Garren and now the puck is back towards Coffee dumped in and an offside is called well Billy Garren trying to make his presence felt in his first game as a boss of Bruins he said he’s the guy that they hope will create that spark that Mike Keenan has been looking for with this club when Keenan first came here he was looking for a guy who can put the points up and Garren has certainly done that with his 12 goals and 10 assists to date in his 21 games but the other part of that is the leadership qualities he brings on and off the ice mike Keenan put his team through a fitness test when he first took over the reigns back in the first part of November saying “I don’t think my team’s in very good shape and let’s do some testing to find out.” out and he said “Huh some of the boys aren’t in great shape but they will be.” He said “They’ve really have kind of adapted into the program he’s trying to put together with this club.” Now Keenan signed a one-year deal with a 2-year option held by the Bruins replacing Pat Burns after just eight games in this NHL season but the Harry Syndon disappointment and Pat Burns’s performance as the head coach goes back to last year’s disappointing year that we talked about earlier when the Bruins missed the playoffs for the second time in the last four seasons winning only 24 games kovaleeno will bring it out of the zone kovaleeno dumps it to the stick side of Manny Fernandez garren in on the four check so Garren getting a chance with Thornton and Kovaleeno here bill Garren a lot of ice time so far in the first period thon tried to pass it gill a long shot knocked down in front by Fernandez he gives Garren a little bit of an extra bump and Neielson will send it into the zone 214 remains here in the first period we’re at the Fleet Center mike Wolver Tom Reed Wild Hockey on KMSP leision Curtis Leision works around Mike Canubal wanted to lead it back to Laxin and the loose puck will be picked up by big Hal Gil 67 235 lbs wow that is some size well you look at players like Gil you mentioned 67 you look at McKenna 6’8 these players put on their skates they’re close to 7 foot tall and of course right out of here in Massachusetts playing in front of his of his hometown friends and family here’s a look at McKenna also we talk about the different sizes very personable guy off the ice too I tell you he is he’s I mean he’s such a horse you get guys like that in front of the net they are tough to move hal McKinnon may get to meet Hal Gil on one or two occasions here this evening gil has really been a mainstay on the blue line Tom for this team missed just three games over the past two seasons but he he struggled defensively he’s I think he’s minus 14 with this club he hasn’t not picked up any points as yet but you look at different things that he brings to it and one of them that he things he brings is that size and ability to clear the net here he is trying to clear the zone can’t do it sushinsky looks and a great pass to Hendrickson what a save by Byron Defoe sushinsky with a jump in his step tonight hendrickson with a good scoring opportunity now it’s taken by Axelson he loses it threeon two of the Wild Hurry sushinsky had it taken off his stick the long reach of Hal Gil 120 remains here in the first period and Sutton tried to send it in pushed over towards Dixon Ward andy Sutton picks up the puck andy Sutton back to Brad Bomber one- nothing our score maximum Sujinski play turned over axelson leaves it for Kenubal dixon ward missed the net stick side of Manny Fernandez now it’s Kenubal kenubal wants to get it to Ward look to get it there instead it’s Darby Hendendrickson stepping in and trying to clear out kept in at the blue line by Koulen now behind the net Mike Kenubal in to help Kim Balier bal on the near sideboards hendrickson there gets it to Pellerin pellerin flips it to Neielen and the Wild have cleared the zone neielen happy to get a line change with 30 seconds remaining in the first period sushinsky from Pellerin one to nothing wild lead penubal on the near side boards and so a bit slow getting that fifth player out on the ice shots are 125 wild with the advantage what’s on tap in our first intermission brought to you by Bud Light we will have an interview with one of our members of the Minnesota Wild we will talk to you about the upcoming home stand around the Thanksgiving holiday and statistics and highlights from the first 20 minutes of play here tonight from the Fleet Center in Boston where the Wild have the lead a few moments ago you saw that pass by Sutton go right across ice in front of his own net that’s not the place to to make that pass obviously you got to go to the boards if you want to play it safe almost resulted in a great opportunity for the for the uh Bruins yarn Cin made the past 5 years in Finland he is a 27year-old rookie it’s left back to his stick and a long drive club by Manny Fernandez and the first period is concluded first of all Sushinsky with a goal that’s most important secondly Tom the Wild limit the Bruins to just five shots on Manny Fernandez well we’ve talked about this team not giving up a lot of shots they didn’t work as well against Buffalo last night especially in the third period but they come into this game and that’s what they have to do they have to keep their shots down but their production has to be up and we’ve seen that in period number one lots of good scoring chances in the first period for the Minnesota Wild they capitalized at 435 of the first on a pretty pass from Scott Pellerin and a great effort by Maximum Sushinski one- nothing after one wild lead the Bruins here on KMSB [Music] welcome back to Boston as we have played one period xl Energy presenting Hockey Night in Minnesota the Wild lead the Bruins one to nothing five was the magic number last night against Buffalo five Saber shots in the first period they had 27 shots did Buffalo in the second and third periods combined ended up winning the hockey game by a score of 3 to one sushinsky his first since October 18th when he had two goals against Tampa Bay the only goal scored so far here tonight west Walls’s line will get set to face things off here for the Wild against Dixon Ward in the Bruins the second period set to get underway both teams at even strength and the Wild see the Bruins control the opening faceoff bruins I’m going to guess got a little bit of a tongue lashing from one iron Mike Keenan after the first period of play left now for Dixon Ward look to get it onto the tape of Kenubal jumped over a stick cultubal Ward on this forward line stacy Roose back deep on the back check puck is behind the net sent over towards the near side boards and controlled again by Boston ward gets it across lots of time shot pat save made and there is going to be a penalty called in front of the net as Kenuba was hammered by Shaun O’Donnell well it’s going to be a hooking call oddonnell head right to the penalty box knowing full well that he was uh he was a victim being caught he feels and I think you’re right i don’t think that uh the coach Mike Kenan very happy with the play in that first period watch in front of the net you’ll see the little hook right there around the leg just pulls Canuble down and you can see the quick save also by Manny Fernandez who has been so strong for this Wild Hockey team so O’Donnell and Sweeney regulars towards the penalty box here this evening jo’s team killed off all three of Buffalo’s power plays last night his penalty killing efforts 22nd in the NHL and 17th actually a little bit better on the road Tom this year than at home so hooking the call 34 seconds into this second period and Kenubal and company will get the opportunity to start this power play so Keenan making a statement right here not pleased with the five on three efforts in the first period of the big line pj Axelson gets it across kenubal spinning in his own zone axelson has it number 11 walking in looking kenubal front of the net stick handling traffic loose puck poked aside nicely by Antie Laxin cannot clear the zone though cotley quickly shot in front lots of room screening and Manny Fernandez will hold on he just jammed a pad down was able to make the save and jumps on the rebound what is the key to a successful power play well Bill Garren needs to know now that he’s in Boston yeah they’ve they’ve got a lot of talent um on it and uh some good young players and uh you know they have Roelly playing the point and uh he can really bring the puck to the net and uh you know uh you know hopefully hopefully I can get on the power play with those guys and uh you know maybe just contribute a bit now he will get a chance to be on this power play this year partner well he certainly will you know the key to the su to the success of the power play obviously is containing that puck in the offensive zone get in control cut does a nice job two different times to keep the puck in the zone now these are the times that you wonder exactly what statements are being made mike Keenan has his third line out to start the power play now he’s got the banging line with the big cruiser Keon on the ice a power play to begin the period we have not seen Thornton we have not seen Garren we have not seen Samson off we have not seen Allison and we have seen half the penalty time expire well your key players want to be on the ice and when they’re not on the ice you know something is wrong and that’s the quickest way to send a message say nothing to them just keep them on the bench and I’ll guarantee you that they’ll receive that message loud and clear mike is like email instant messages he has sent one here to begin this second period mike sends more messages than yahoo.com eer gets it and it’s played in the neutral ice area dumped in by Bates control behind the net leision talking it over looking loose puck almost dangerous situation as Lision and Fernandez could not handle the puck behind the wild net coulton and he will send it in bon is still on now Kovaleeno is on this power play but only 20 seconds remain bouncing cut no shot taken and Darren Vanimp has to retreat to the neutral ice area vanimp out of Saskatoon Saskatchewan bad angle shot kicked aside by Fernandez the big tank Andre Kovaleeno is there he leaves it for Brian Rston thornton Rollson Kovaleno this is a good size forward line for the Bruins and not once do we see the big guns Tom as the power play time has expired laxon in long shot defo sweeps the rebound aside hellerin look to center stacy Roose tips it over Kovaleeno sushinsky in on his man now Thornton bounces it off the boards kovalenko able to bump it up onto the stick of Rollston two line pass stoppage in play well the Bruins trying to get that quick break out there rollson coming in over the red line but just a little bit off to the side there and so the two-line pass will take away away a good opportunity bring the face off back into that Boston zone minnesota has got to stay out of the penalty box mike Keen has had success wherever he has been you watch right here watch a little flip off off the boards right here and watch coming from the bottom of your screen there’s Rollson coming in trying to get in into the middle break in behind the defenders but called on the play now Mike Keenan didn’t accomplish what he wanted in his time in Vancouver fought with Trevor Lyndon fought with the GM Brian Burke but St louis in ’95 he had a team that had a chance to win the cup that was one year after leading the Rangers to their first Stanley Cup in 54 years in 94 he was tremendous as the coach of Chicago started his career taking Philadelphia in the mid 80s to the Stanley Cup finals he says he still can’t figure out why he was fired in Chicago he came in think he was going to get a contract extension unfortunately it was a contract dismissal he was two years almost out of the coaching ranks working as an analyst on CTV in Canada yeah I talked to him this morning he said “I’m really happy to be back into it.” You know just this is where his passion is in the coaching side of it he says “If you don’t learn from every mistake you make in life then you will never improve as a person.” It’s interesting though Tom because I was in Vancouver when Mike Keenan arrived as the head coach of the Canucks and all the articles alluded to him being a changed man and a few weeks into it Mike went back to the things in which he’s been criticized for in the past do you think he’ll be a changed man here in Boston it it’s it’s tough it’s very very tough that’s his demeanor that’s his style and uh some co some coaches Scotty Bones another one who gets great results but sometimes can be very intimidating mike wants to win there’s no question he he has a passion for winning and he hates to lose more than than winning sometimes but the thing is he comes here he says you know I’ve learned a lot of things we’ll see if he can implement those things that he has learned along the way after a couple of disappointing performances he actually brought all his players in for a little session with desks and number two lead pencils and they made lists of what they wanted to accomplish this year as players for this organization and for themselves it was textbook 101 a little school time for Mike Keenan’s Bruins yeah yeah so if he had one-on-one meetings with the players just no not really not with all of them he’s had some discussions he said “But I just I don’t know the players that well yet i’ve got to get to know them.” And he will get to know Bill Garren who turns it over peter Bartos walking in dragged down good strike shown by Peter Bartos he draws the penalty and once again the Wild will have an opportunity with the power play and once again as it was in the first period they get a quick pass out in front of the play and get an opportunity to score down hard when Bartos Don Fuller comes out to take a look at the young man who has been up for four games well Bartos the one thing about Bartos he’s got great speed on the outside watch right here just a the little check here wasn’t a hard check but knocked the opponent off the puck he breaks away tries to come in and protect the puck but also look how he’s hooked right down here and finally just takes a heavy hits coming in looked like he went backwards with his head into that uh into into the pipe there but with those marsh pegs in there that will take things away and he went in there but that will give the opportunity to the Wild on the extra man advantage well Bartos has been good in the four games he has played since being called up from the Cleveland Lumberjacks of the IHL scored the first goal of his NHL career last night against the Buffalo Sabres helps to draw the penalty on Coulton here hooking is the call wild 0 for one with just one shot on goal with the power play here this evening well Colton is just his first year in the NHL but he also is a 27year-old rookie and and according to Mike Keenan he has been their best defenseman all year very skilled knows how to jump up into the play and also with some pretty good size at 6’2 200 lb bartos a little icebag from Donnie Fuller he will be back on the ice jim Dow controls the faceoff curtis Leision sends it towards net byron Defoe will hold on helerin creep a crass off dowed Leision and Secish as the Wild continue to try different combinations on the power play fans ages 6 to 12 may enter the youth hockey starting lineup sweep stakes presented by Cub Foods winners receive two tickets a jersey and the chance to be on the ice during team introductions at a designated Sunday home game register at your nearby Cub Food store big shot he hit the post did it go in they are saying yes a shot and a goal power play goal for Lumirish first goal scored on the road with the power play in franchise history well the nice thing also it’s his birthday today so he celebrates his birthday giving himself and his team a gift a big shot from the drive and once again Mike that faceoff is critical we’ve talked about that before this guy has really stepped up he knows how to play offense a little bit older perhaps than a lot of the players born in 1968 but you watch as the puck goes back to the point and look at the jumping to get out of the way the foe did not even see that shot and just beats him cleanly there’s a good look at it once again and you’ll you’ll see as he sits on the bench right now that all of a sudden he has given his team that two goal lead which when they get the lead it’s very very tough to take it away from them now great faceoff win by the Wild jim Dow gets it to Lumir Seekish and the power play drought has ended as the Wilder with the man advantage for the first time in franchise history here on the road lubamir Seek his fifth goal of the season boy what a big plus that is we talked before about how difficult it is sometimes to to play two games in two nights against two big opponents you know physically but this team has bounced back here able to do it and Sakish puts it in the net no question at 349 in the period without the only assists now right after that will come a chance with the man advantage for the Boston Bruins because Matt Johnson has been flagged for hooking this will be the Bruins fourth power play of the game so the Wild have Sushinsky even strength in the first seekish from Dow in the second period on the power play and they lead by a score of two to nothing well if you don’t play your way onto the bench a good way to do it is take penalties that are are not needed [Applause] faceoff win coulton in company for the Bruins coulton in controls try to get it to Joe Thornton stepped up on by Lubamir Seish and he is able to clear the zone 16 shots for the Wild just eight shots on goal for the Boston Bruins here is Allison cross ice pass to Cutlick cut sends it into the Wild zone ozonal is there whips it up and into the neutral ice area coulton in and Laxon in on the forch check he peels off walls will get a change so will Laxin in new penalty killers on darby Hendrickson and Jim Dow across the line is Allison allison to Thornton and cleared but not out cool good job done at the blue line o’donnell heads up play Tom this time he finds Jim Dow and he makes no mistake on the clear well Henderson made a real nice play to get the puck and then turn around to shoot it down but he didn’t take a look before he shot it and put it right into the glove of the defensive back there cut lack now it’s Thornton on the near side samson wants it coulson waiting waiting looking gives it to Samson samson stepping in circles to Allison allison Thornton’s in front of the net allison’s behind benick drags him down play will go right on cutlick and Coulton at the point samson a shot saved by Fernandez and he will leave no rebound allison and Benick continue to battle in front of the Wild net well I think Allison a little upset because of the fact that Benik just manhandled him in behind the net allison lost his helmet on the play and the captain came back a little frustrated perhaps they’re getting back on the power play they sat on the bench for the last power play they want to make sure they’re on the ice you watch here behind you see that beness made a good play there tried to get it out not able to do so and that’s where you really have as a defenseman had to work with your wingers you have to work with them just a little pass instead of a hard pass would allow them to get possession and shoot it all the way down and Manny Fernandez doing a good job the yman job there of squaring up the puck and taking the shot coming from the point position so Allison on the bench and Garren will center this line with Rollston and Kovaleeno wild control and they clear the zone 31 seconds remaining on the minor penalty for hooking called against Matt Johnson out of the zone comes Paul Coffee coffee across the line sends it in on the near side van Imp just hammered by Curtis that was a big time collision and this Van Imp is is related to Ed Vanip the longtime defenseman in the National Hockey League mostly with the Philadelphia Flyers kovaleeno trying to work around big Shawn O’Donnell and the Wild clear it into the Boston Bruins bench penalty time on Johnson has expired so the Bruins 0 for four with the man advantage they trail the Wild two to nothing in the second zushinsky in second 1356 remains manny Fernandez has only been forced to make nine saves so far in this hockey game jack La Mer likes the way his team has played this evening especially responsible in their own defensive zone faceoff win by Boston though big shot fernandez look behind him no need to look behind you Manny it’s in your glove he’s got it there someplace was Boy Sure but that’s the instinct of a goalender too you play this game long enough you don’t have to see the puck all the time you don’t have to see the player all the time to know where the where they’re going to be where their shot is going to come from just square in on the puck able to do that and he makes the save here’s Vanip you talked about Darren Vanip a moment ago seven-year veteran fourth season here with the Boston Bruins broken actually with expansion in the early 90s with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim well he was one of the guys that counted on the power play last year he picked up a total of 28 points 19 of those points came in the power play now he has had power play time here this evening he’s on the blue line for most of this game with the future Hall of Famer Paul Coffee poppy sneaking in and the puck is cleared out by big Steve McKenna up ahead stacy Roost with speed nice play by McKenna just to stand his ground there get possession then move the puck right up ice quickly by the time Roost came into being a regular in Detroit Paul Coffee had departed in the Brendan Shanahan deal he was on to Hartford and Carolina and Philadelphia after so many years in Edmonton Coffey’s been well traveled the past few seasons kovaleeno behind the net boy Sutton had Thornton all lined up i think Thornton saw him coming he’s got him backed up a little bit and the train is coming get out of the way here is Gil gil shot knocked down in front good defensive play by big Matt Johnson and Johnson dumps it in that’s the effort you have to get matt Johnson doing a great job there blocking that shot and he had the presence of mind Tom to step over the red line before he dumped the puck into the zone gil a drive canu takes it off the backboard bombadier wants to get to it first garren is in on the for check kenu wearing number 26 he played college hockey at Michigan and he is a big big boy on the near side court Susinsky bumped by Gil and skated down by Cutlick cut in the lineup tonight with Kyle McLaren still nursing that knee injury we talked about earlier garren sends it offside is called against the Bruins well it’s going to take Garren a little bit of time to adjust to his linemates out here just a little bit ahead of the play and he just hesitated momentarily that creates the offside you know Billy Garren was talking about Tom the differences between playing with Doug Weight and Jason Allison douggee Weight’s one of the best playmakers in the league allison has passing ability but Allison is a bigger goal scorer and a bigger finisher well yeah at this point he is and you know it it’s amazing the guys you play with dictate pretty well what you’re going to do i mean there’s a lot of guys out there to score goals that only do so because they have players who can get them the puck they can’t go in and get it themselves so it really is a the chemistry between players out here you know you look at Garren he talked about you know being a Bruin and he grew up a big fan of the Boston Bruins Terra O’Reilly especially and he said even last week he says it was my grandmother’s 95th birthday and he said “What better present to give her than come back home looking to unwrap a present for the first time in a Minnesota uniform he was caught up to.” Sepris dumps it right back in defo wants it gil is there to the near side board sergey Samson samson off Allison and now it’s Rollston on this line so Mike Keenan doing his best imitation of his mentor Scotty Powman and switching up the lines with great frequency here tonight samson off on the back hand rollston wants it laxon and looks for it seek is there and Allison digs it up backand trying to go upstairs glove save made by Fernandez jim Dow wants it now dow will take it deep in his own zone and leaves it for Shawn O’Donnell 1140 remains here in the second period the Bruins with 10 shots 16 shots for the Wild and the little battles have been won by this Minnesota hockey team down goes Laxin and shot off the net by Ka Crassoff penalty is coming up against the Boston Bruins still controlling her the Wild Creveroff spins flips it into the zone now it’s O’Donnell looking behind the net extra attacker on the ice taken by West Walt walt looking shot what a save point blank range by Defo big shot big save power play still coming up for Minnesota well that was a tripping call i believe that’s going to go against the Boston Bruins and as you mentioned Minnesota had a great opportunity to put it away they’re moving the puck around and what not in the offensive zone and just a great second effort on the part of the Wild to make sure that they had you know not only were they getting the extra man on the ice but also getting those chances that penalty is going to come at 8 minutes and 48 seconds and it is going to go against Jason Allison we talked about before on the tripping call coming back a little bit lazy in his own zone i believe it was doubt he he tripped just over the blue line now 8:48 the time right across the red line there it is down goes the Wild player hustling in and into the penalty box goes the big captain you see the fish on the far end of the ice making that call two referees remember third power play of the night for Minnesota they scored on their second breaking the 0 for 47 start on the road in franchise history or power play efficients away from the XL Energy Center in St paul got one why not two two to nothing our score sushinsky and Seek as the Wild will work it out of their own zone benick gets it over to Darby Hendrickson hendrickson across the line dumped into the far corner susinsky tried to get to it first van impels it around the near side and a good play defensively by the Bruins thornton in on Fernandez bumped up towards Benick oaleno’s caught in deep and now the Wild will try to push the puck up quickly they do to Scott Pellerin pellerin dropped past Sushinski back to Scott Pellerin max of Sushinsky he is bumped hendrickson to Pellerin pellerin behind the net pellerin went to Bombader bombader jumped in puck bounces off a skate of a Bruin defenseman and cleared out by Andre Kovaleno well Pellin had the right idea there he wanted to get the puck to Shazinski but there was not a lot of room for that puck to travel up ice comes Curtis Leision leision onto the tape but Lubameir Seish has the power play bulldite skating in dragged down by Garren and a penalty is coming up against Bill Garren they’re going to get him for the penalty and it is going to be now it might not be Garen well it’s going to be secish went down yeah it’s going to be a m could be a major penalty because there is an injury on the high sticking call and it is it is Garrett gar going to the penalty box yeah Sris made a nice move taking the pass and coming in looked like he was going to the left and then all of a sudden cut to his right i think the stick came up a little bit high there and that would be a big loss because he has laid so well watch right here little fake left and then watch him cut to the right here good bounce great lateral move here look where the stick is you see come up right in the facial area i’m tell the NHL has really cracked down with those high sticking pen we saw May out of Colorado picking up that penalty what 20 game suspension suspension yep well they’ve given him a two-minute penalty at this that’s what they’re calling right now yeah they’re still attending to Lubamir Seekish what a great story he has been here in his NHL debut scoring his fifth goal of the season now Sish Tom with six points in his last five games played and still this remaining in that fifth game with 30 minutes on the clock he looks to be okay there’s the advantage of the visor that stick doesn’t catch you quite at the same angle when you have the visor on as when that face is fully exposed well he leads his team also in the blue line as far as points he and Philip Kubel kubel with that injury also with that had a pulled little muscle in the in the side area hip area so they elected to keep him out of this uh game now had the big drive for the goal and it looked a lot like a Philip Kuba type shot gabri still out of course with that that knee problem cam Stewart with a rib area injury aaron Gave back with a a foot injury so injuries have played a big role in the deciding what players are going to be on the ice in this first year for the Minnesota Wild midway point of our contest 1004 remains wild have 52 seconds of five on three here dow will take the very important face off against Joe Thornton thornton controls it gets it back the Bruins try to clear leision keeps it in nicely at the blue line here is Scott Pellerin pellerin to Leision leision stepping up gets it across bombadier leision a drive he missed the net pellerin referee skate is hit by the puck now behind the net wild with two men they finally squirt it onto the stick of Dow he gets it to Brad Bombadier bombadier to Pellerin leision lision pellerin shot hit the side of the net garcoff coming in hard byron Defoe has no stick but the Bruins are able to clear [Applause] while doing a good job of moving the puck around the offensive zone trying to get that one player in good position good shots coming towards the target here is Bombader now final seconds ticking away on the first minor penalty against the Bruins five on four now as Allison comes out of the box allison right into the plate susinsky behind the net for the Wild zushinsky looking for Bartos deflected just enough by Vanim now it’s Sushinski sushinsky to roost roose back to the point and Curtis Lision lision looked to get it past Cutlick he stepped in and the Bruins will clear again fernandez leaves for Bombardier 42 seconds left in the minor against Bill Garen rollston on the for check and the Wild bring it up zushinsky gets it right back from Brad Bombadier susinsky to Roose roose stepping in shot and a save made by Defo penalty is coming up one more time flashing is going to be the call and the Wild are really starting to make things happen here in the second nice nice execution of moving the puck out of their own zone as you look at the signal by the referee right now Suzinski really stepping up in this game coming back as we talked about after the injury watch as he takes a pass right here takes a little look hesitation all a sudden coming right in the middle you got Roo coming in watch a slash right there that’s all it takes in this game today one little slash like that but what a nice play by Sajinski right onto the stick we talk about tape to tape being on that stick there he comes in roost who’s been snake many times comes in takes a good shot but Byron Defoe comes out to cut down that angle minnesota has a big advantage now with another penalty being called against Boston so they had a little under 50 seconds of five on three time now they will have 28 seconds and Jacqu Laair wants to discuss what really could become Tom a very crucial part of this hockey game because we all know the difference in a two nothing game on which team scores the next goal boston scores it they’re right back in it wild go up three to nothing and things would be difficult for the Bruins especially given the fact they have only had 10 shots on goal so far tonight well you’re absolutely right and you know getting that next goal is going to be a big plus for the Wilder they can get it if they don’t then all of a sudden you can get that momentum shift as we’ve seen time and time again i don’t think either coach real happy with the penalties that their members are taking i don’t think they’re faulting the referee on this because the calls are legitimate but Vanimp comes in on the slash and the slash so much isn’t to hurt the player as it is to let the player know there’s someone there to apply that additional pressure i’m here you got to shoot right now and try to force him into shoot getting that puck away quicker than he normally would fourth set of back-to-back games this season wild 06 and one in game two of the backto back sets so Dow has the faceoff opportunity here he will take the draw against Joe Thornton he lost it last time against Thornton let’s see if he can win it this time cleanly he does back to Seek seek to Bombardier bombardier lumirish seek pellerin seek shot score power play goal lumir Seek a low drive hits the post beats Byron Defoe it is 3 nothing Minnesota well happy birthday again to Sacriish what a nice low shot but the key there we talked about was on the draw again dow won the draw away from Thornton got it back and all a sudden they just move it along and you’ll see Sakash as he goes to the center ice position getting in the middle of that ring gives them better shooting plays moving it back and forth look at Sess in the bottom of your screen on the left now as that puck comes back he’s going to make a little move here pass it across and that’s a patent play you just get that way but see how he comes to the center here then he moves it back to what he thinks is a better shooting angle gets it back and look at that shot nice and low look at the traffic in front and the Wild have taken the lead by three big power play goals goal scored by Minnesota as we said they get not just one but their second road power play goal of this season and still on the power play is Minnesota a five on four because they beat the clock Tom on the five on three as Hendrickson looked to get it to Seek seek tied up now joe Thornton crashes into the offensive end and it’s turned right over as Seek will take it in front to Manny Fernandez so Seekish with goal number six on this NHL season pellerin and Bombardier will get the assist second point of the night for Scott Pellerin back the other way comes Allison moving in watch out stick handling save made by Fernandez did it go in i think it did the red light is on and Jason Allison has scored short-handed to make it a 31 game great individual effort by the top scorer in the National Hockey League well it was and the one thing is you want when you score a goal like that and you get a three-goal lead sometimes they’re very tough to hang on to you have a tendency to let up just a little bit defensively they do right here and watch right now allison just comes in stays on his skates right here and finally the momentum just follows it right in to the net and you see the big captain comes in as he goes right towards the net miner go to the net you can see Fernandez make the initial save but the puck just comes right in with Allison it’s in the corner and they have cut the three-goal deficit to just two with his 11th goal of the year shorthanded less than a minute after the Wild had made it three to nothing allison with his 11th goal of the season so 3-1 our score still 46 seconds left on the power play fifth short-handed goal scored this year against Minnesota that is not good behind the net it is Jim Dow down over the stick of Pellerin Sutton crashes samsonov takes it coltic out of the zone across the line the Bruins will come shot by Allison not on net good passing play into the zone sergey Samson off tom picks up the assist on the Allison goal so Allison from Samson off and 3-1 is our score whistle stoppage well this is where really the Wild have really got to settle down here they’ve give they scored the three then they relaxed just a little bit that brought the Bruins right back into it now they have got to play smart here and pick up their intensity just a little bit more at the same time you know that Allison and his crew are going to be pushing a little bit higher trying to narrow the gap so Seekish on his 32nd birthday with two goals in the contest tonight both on the power play and now we’re back to that two-goal advantage wild had broken through led by three not for very long and the next goal ultra important and all of a sudden a little jump in the Bruins step here rston Sage ties up his man play will go right on that was Bill Garren crashing the net manny Fernandez slow to get back up back the other way towards O’Donnell puck is squirting into the Bruins zone and out will come Brian Rston out of the box Vanimp back to even strength for both teams lumir Seek behind the net for Minnesota seek gets it ahead to Peter Bartos bartos to Walls walls across the line stops spins dumps it in defoe is out beats Bartos to the puck on the board walls wins the battle bartos looking for a man neielson couldn’t get a shot away defoe will hold on sris started allison finished 3-1 our score hey we’ll meet you guys down at the pool okay grab some lights i’m going to get ready what’s wrong is it stuck come to Did you try jiggling it it’s not a jiggle issue baby come here baby i want it i want to know i wanted with a great taste that won’t fill you up and never let you down can you give me a hand over here make it a Bud Light yeah what two players have led their respective teams goals assist points and penalty minutes we’re going to spot you one here Tommy vancouver Conucks 7980 how about Stan the Steamer Smeal the other one we’re not going to give but we’ll give you guys Smeal 300 plus responses on a Saturday night people watching hockey in the upper Midwest treasure Island Resort and Casino trivia question not very not very good percentage zero for 300 that is not very good at all you are correct sir but that might help our fans a little bit up ahead it’s Axelson brings it across the line offside by a mile and we will step aside one more time 529 remains in the second resort mike Keenan his sixth coaching opportunity in the National Hockey League mentioned before he signed the one-year deal for $600,000 not a lot of money by NHL coaching standards in this modern era he has a two-year option what will that do to his philosophy here in the next few months only time will tell only Iron Mike really knows yeah he just wanted to get back in when you look at his record over 500 victories in his career 59 with 376 losses so he’s he’s pretty well over uh the 500 mark puck is in the Bruins bench he has a young Boston Bruins team in which to try to mold into a champion you look at the forwards jason Allison is 25 thornton is 21 samson off his 21 alex is 25 rston is 27 i mean this is a team with a strong foundation who two years ago were a powerhouse in the East went far in the playoffs last year really a disappointment but I would guess Mike Keenan not disappointed with the foundation that Harry Synden and Mike Oonnell have built here well I I don’t think so you know the thing is that you know he knows he knew full well coming in here what type of a team he was going to get and he just wants to build and he said this morning he said you know we’re going to have to make some deals we’re going to have to make some trades and so on that going to come about maybe the players don’t always agree with them but our job as management as coaching and management is to get the best players here that we possibly can and sometimes you have to give up some of the good guys along the way well they definitely will do that on more than one occasion they gave up Anson Carter this week already he was a contract pulled out he will be an Edmonton Oiler shot goes wide to the net sammy Pson not in the lineup tonight for the Boston Bruins and there is a major reason for that Tom sammy Pollson’s not in the lineup for the Boston Bruins tonight because he no longer plays for the Boston Bruins well that’s exactly right he was traded now we have another player that’s down injured on the ice and there will be a penalty that’s going to take place and being banished to the penalty box is Bill Garren can’t see along the boards here we’re trying to get the number of the player we can’t see from our sightelines here and boy this is Bill Garin making his presence felt in the physical part of this game as he’s also been designated as one of the assistant captains here in just his first ever game as a Boston Bruin still can’t tell from this vantage point which member of the Minnesota Wild went down hard on that play a hockey team that is already very banged up brad Bombadier it appears and he is slow to get up yeah and he’s had his problem with groins already watch there’s Garren coming in here right see him bring bring up the stick just a little bit there as he as Bombader made a good move to cut to his right here you watch as he comes out look oh look where the stick is and the elbow and everything else coming up very high bombader now getting to his feet appears that he is going to be all right scotty Pellerin talked about you know staying with the visor full time Tom and you know you and I discussed it in an earlier game it you used to be less than a man in the National Hockey League if you wore a visor but the visor technology has come a long way and maybe you’re more of a smart man if you put one on today the way the sticks get up in the face it’s you know it’s a very dangerous situation the eyes are exposed and it can end career he is cut is Brad Bombadier right now though only two minutes being given to Bill Garren and that’s what has Bombadier upset i tell you the the referee right now is over the bench brian Murphy explained to Jock La Mer what the penalty is and there and rightfully so i mean why why isn’t it a major penalty but look at you got every coach and Jock has got that little smirk on his face like are you really telling me this even the players are giving that little smile like okay we give up a roughing I think it I think they’re calling because he took the glove and punched you know you know what Jock’s saying here we go we’re in Boston again and it’s happening again well why don’t you just bring out Mus and Espazito we’ll beat you in the Stanley Cup a couple of times whatever you guys want to do here no worries yeah last night he was not very happy he said two of the the two goals one was the empty net goal in Buffalo but he said the first was a hand pass that they were going to call then didn’t call because it was way far enough away from the play but still it should have warranted a call he said the second was a two-line pass and both of those he said went undetected and now he’s saying you know you tell me why there’s not a major penalty there took a punch at him that’s could be a fighting major well nonetheless two-minute minor given to Bill Garin another trip to the penalty box for the newest member of this Bruin organization dowed and Allison tossed with a little bit of extra emphasis from the faceoff dot and in will come Samson off sammy Pollson we talked about just quickly Tom just to complete that thought prior to tonight’s game he was traded to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks for Patrick Travers the defenseman we saw earlier this year and big Andre Nazerof so changes being made in this Bruin lineup pson we had expected to see this evening he is going to be on a flight tomorrow towards wherever Anaheim is i know they’re in Phoenix tonight sage brings it into the zone gets it towards down here is Kaoff kaoff in the Wilder two for five on the power play here this evening with six shots against Byron Defoe cleared that time and Lision takes it samsonov bumps into Curtis Lision and Seekish moves it ahead quickly creassoff into the zone with speed creo stops off the skate onto Dow’s tape now Jason Allison trying to punch it out of the zone seek can’t keep it in offside is called i tell you what great speed that Kissa Crassov had coming down that left wing position but also he’s got great you know the Europeans especially have got great coordination with their feet a lot of soccer they play and they’re trying they try and throw a little bit of a move here watch as he cuts down he’ll take the pass here nice and nice uh pass out in front watch how he uses his skates here tries to throw the defender off a little bit making him think he’s losing the puck to look down and he just kind of kicks it back and forth and but the defender did not go for it right here you watch right here he just he watches all the way stays right with him it’s a little bit like something we could see from uh Yamir Jogger i did that one step from the puck and pulled the groin absolutely out three weeks tom your dayto day aren’t we all here is Susinski puck is lost remember the Bruins do have a short-handed goal in this game tonight their only goal that was scored by Jason Allison thornton and Bombardier having a little battle behind the play bombadier able to draw the penalty well done Brad Bombadier got into the youngster’s kitchen and Thornton will head to the penalty box bombader just kind of goat him a little bit they came together and Bomader had another word with him and Thornton just came in and threw the right hand at him that’s what you call discipline he didn’t have it there and he’s going to pay the price for it as Minnesota will have a twoman advantage for the third time in this game start back in the corner look at the bottom right part of your screen then they came up there’s a stick in front of each other see the little shot there they still have a few words now Bombader comes back gives him a little shot back come on you want Oh here I’ll give you one gives it to him but into the box he goes that penalty coming at 16 minutes 18 seconds now it’s interesting mike Keenan has seen Sergey Samson off and really and really they have seen their captain Jason Allison play very well since Keenan has come in joe Thornton has taken a step back under the head coach Mike Keenan he was very close with Pat Burns pat Burns was here for all three of his Bruin seasons and Thornton undisiplined penalty taken there and so a five on three with three and a half minutes remaining here in the second wild with a chance to take the 200 lead again to the point it’s Seekish seek has it at the blue line seekish looking gets it across bombadier bombader seckish seek pellerin pellerin seckish seek waiting waiting a drive rebound in front and it’s cleared to the side by Colton on his 32nd birthday seek hoping to complete the hattick there’s a big hit play goes right on seek a drive rebound good kick save by Byron Defoe came way out of the net that time and Allison able to clear tell that was a major league cross check also that was given by Allison up ahead good lead pass to Sushinsky into the zone here is Roose bruce leaves for Curtis Leision he’ll give it right back out of the box is Garren across the pass is made rebound in front swept aside so the five on three is over here comes Bill Garren up ahead to Brian Rston rston left for Coffee big drive and it trickles up towards the blue line that didn’t miss by much oh it sure did coffee had his own blue line roose will bring it across gains the zone gets it over to Bartos didn’t get everything he wanted on the one-time and the glove save made by Defo well Barto is talking to himself right now cuz he had a great opportunity there he had a tremendous training camp for this Wild team it’s kind of slacked off a little bit especially in the exhibition games and uh gets his collar from Cleveland watson here play here by Roo nice little play as he takes control of the puck takes a look first makes a nice little pass nice and flat and look almost like it went off the heel of the stick of Bartos as he was coming in trying to one time it byron Defoe two years ago was a Vizna finalist leading the NHL with 10 shutouts his goals against was 1.99 last year almost a full point down and a 2.96 goals against held out to open last season never was the same goalie he was one year ago sec drive goes way out of play well he had a tough year also he had knee surgery uh in February of last year and and missed the rest of that season as you mentioned uh was very very tough on him and then being a hold out last year just a number of things seem to mitigate uh what he was able to do and now comes back in gets into the thick of things all of a sudden he’s got the the pulled hamstring injuries make a big difference how a player finishes his season especially when you have a poor start you’re with the injuries to get back into it just the sixth game played this year by Byron Defoe mike Keenan said he is my number one goalie he’s the best player on this hockey team i am going to play him i am going to play him a lot in fact they sent young Andrew Raycrop back down to the miners he’s a fine prospect but they want him to have an opportunity to play in Providence kovaleeno bunks into Seish at center ice walsh gets it ahead sushinsky has a trailer gets it across btos what a move what a save rebound puck is still free shot never on net how did Byron Defoe come up with that right on Q oh and what a play by Shazinski also we talk about those little water bugs out there he’s one of those guys he made a great move coming in here defo equal to the task finally stop able to stop everybody coming in there you watch the little play right here watch pull the puck off to a side on the back end pulls her back everyone goes by him puts it on the far side bartos comes in can’t put it away he gets it again tries to go up high with us you got Zazinski jumping up in the air to I think to get it away out of out of the way of the shot rather than screen the goalender but what a move he makes right here short stick close in quick reaction nice turn here but Defo also able to just cover it up and finally force force the face off to his right best game we’ve seen in quite some time from Sushinsky big drive benesick and kicked out of play again by Lord Byron Defoe 29year-old from Sussex England and he really emerged in 9798 right here in Boston as one of the premier starters in the league Tom he won 30 games that season well he’s been tested the Wild have had 24 shots in this game giving up just 11 to the Boston Bruins the Wild with 12 in each of the periods boston with just five in the first and now just six in the second period so coach Mike Keenan trying to get his players on track to get some more firepower but in order to do that you have to get the puck to the opposite end so Defo strong here on this scoring opportunity coming in multiple bunches for the Wild thornton back out of the box and tossed from the neutral ice area or from the faceoff dot pardon me garren will take the draw instead of Brian Rollston we think West Walls is definitely set up for the Wild face off controlled by Boston watch out rollston ahead on the play coffee hits the trailer Garren who drives it into the foot of Benison 90 seconds remains in the second period wild have outsc scored the Bruins 200 in this period pat save made good low shot by Coffee from the point chopping at it is Neielson coffee keeping it in at the blue line walls able to clear the zone up to Laxin walls looking to get behind Coffee he has it he moves shot trickled off the stick coffee went down he’s going to be called for the penalty though and the Wild once again will have the power play west Walls did a great job getting behind the play now he’s going to skate away from Thornton it’ll be interesting to see if Thornton also picks up a minor he should he should he took a shot with his right hand with a uh the stick still in his glove right towards Walls walls very smart to move away coffee to do the additional penalty i believe it’ll be on the slash coming in you watch a nice little play watch the right side of your screen see Walls getting behind him right here comes in takes a shot very weak shot off to his side but there was a slash there just before that now watch this see Thornton coming right in here with walls and just manhandling them a little bit along the boards they tangle up nothing there there’s a little fake shot and then here’s a second shot and there’s the stick coming up into the glove area that should definitely be called now it doesn’t look like it’s going to be part well you know what the NHL re reviews a lot of these calls it be interesting to see if they make an additional call against him on that yeah you know the key right here is that the Wild are totally outplaying the Boston Bruins just as the Atlanta Thrashers did a few weeks ago when they beat this Bruins team 8-3 well the problem right now is they only trail by two goals and that next goal could make all the difference in the world in this game and that’s why you’ve got to call those even though they trail there’s a flag that you’ve got to make the call by the officials leision gets to the puck before Sergey Samson zish has two power play goals here in the second we have under a minute remaining in period number two there is Luimir Seckish up ahead towards Creassoff and an offside is called be sure to vote for your favorite allstars in the Wendy’s NHL All-Star vote 2001 presented by Dodge you may cast your vote at the XL Energy Center or online at nhl.com you can win a Dodge Grand Caravan a trip to the All-Star game and other great prizes there’s a couple of young men who will probably be representing the Eastern Conference or as it is now it is the World Allstars and the nonworld Allstars in the format at the Pepsi Center in Denver on the ballot from the Wild Sergey Free Crass playing in just his sixth game of the season back tonight missing the last 15 after the knee to knee collision against the Edmonton Oilers in mid October puts it behind the net does Prima Crass Dow has it Americans against the world popular format past couple of years in the All-Star game absolutely gil and now it is Luamir Seeker seek wheels it back to Leision final 10 seconds are going to tick off the clock here in second be about 48 seconds or so maybe a little more power play time to begin the third period for Minnesota they have doubled up the shot totals here Tom 24-2 they doubled up the goal totals in the second seek with his fifth and his sixth allison with his 11th well this young man played very well in this in this second period once again Minnesota has really come out in these first two periods and to taken control of this contest they’ve played for the most part they played very disciplined they took a couple of bad penalties but now they’ve allowed the Bruins to take the last six penalties in a row and when you do that that means you’re skating hard and you’re forcing the frustration to come out of the Bruins trying to take those cheap shots of penalties that will play havoc with your hockey you can not win hockey games when you’re sitting in the presents hockey night in Minnesota wild against the Boston Bruins first ever meeting of these two teams first and only meeting here in this inaugural season for the Minnesota Wild faceoff set here in the second period 52 seconds remains on the penalty against Paul Coffee as O’Donnell will retreat the Wild trying to push their lead up to three they led by three goals but only momentarily in the second period too far for Sris bounce right back in to the Wild defensive zone o’donnell has it there gets it to Sergey Kaoff he circles in his own end cross ice bouncing off the boards hendrickson coming in strong shot safe rebound cleared out by the Bruins gil was right there 19 seconds left on the minor against Paul Coffee sean O’Donnell gets it ahead to Creassoff creassoff to West Walls walls across the line wall spins now he’s on his forehand good pass seek looking gets it across one too many chances at a pass towards Neielson and out of the zone come the Bruins back to even strength coffee out of the box he’s the trailer kovaleeno high hard shot over the glove hand of Manny Fernandez across they get the puck to Benick benick with Kovaleeno there i’m sure Keenan gave another tongue lashing after the second period of play to this Bruins squad 271 and 0 this year on the road are the Minnesota Wild the Bruins are 4-1 and two at home so they have played well here at the Fleet Center garren in tight quarters shot was wide to the stick side of Fernandez vanim Bartos in hard is Big Kim Bologon bon gets it to Ward ward quick shot save rebound walls has it flips it up and around and out of play now Jason Allison coming in one of the most impressive scorers in the National Hockey League 27 points one better than Ziggman Py the former Islander now playing on the West Coast with the Kings on our Bourne scoring leader scoreboard jason Allison the best right now in the National Hockey League i’ll tell you in the beginning moments of this third period I sense a little bit of a a change here in the effort putting on here by the Bruins they seem to be getting the puck a little bit more they killed off that penalty which is their first step minnesota’s got to respond here they need to play with a little more intensity especially early on they’ve got that two-goal lead but as we said before one shot by Boston can make a huge difference bourne the preferred IT business adviser of the Minnesota Wild faceoff controlled by Boston jim Doubt has been good in the docks here tonight now behind the net the Bruins trying to crash the net canubo wanted it cuts it kept in the zone spinning and the save made by Fernandez captain again at the blue line watch out Dixon Ward and the puck is cleared out by Jim Don ward just signed a free agent contract just about a week or two ago the 32-year-old out of Leuke Alberta Canada played the last five seasons with the Buffalo Sabres kenubo and Ward are on the ice down goes Coffee mckenna comes in on Paul Coffee bologon to help out sutton picks up the loose puck sutton good lead pass defenseman Tom tonight have taken their time and they have made good passes in the neutral zone springing the Wild forwards into offensive opportunities well you want your wild defensively especially in the defensive zone to make sure that first pass is is a right pass because that is an allimp important pass we saw something early in the first period make an errant pass almost resulted in the goal so defenseman are taught when you get the puck to make sure the first one gets out of the zone but it’s on the stick of your teammate samson off with speed rollston samson off allison shot by Gil wide to the net now it’s Bartos tries to clear it out of the zone he can’t samsonov look to stick handle it past West Wes Walls good deep play by Walls o’donnell behind the net samson off gets to it first though here is Allison big Jason Allison leaves it for Rollston rollston back to Allison behind the net of Manny Fernandez now to the side of Fernandez and Seis strong on his stick puck not cleared again gill drive and he misses the net one more time o’donnell can’t clear the zone walls finally does bruins doing a good job keeping pressure in the first couple of minutes here of the third period on the Minnesota Wild 2515 shots on goal advantage Wild now the puck is played by Bill Garren he gets it across out will come big Hal Gil andre Kovaleeno on the forche looking towards Pompadier drives him into the glass behind the net is Thornton couldn’t hold on his former teammate Laxin and can’t clear it out wild have to be careful here Tom bruins are coming garen a shot wide of the net now it’s Thornton make sure you clear the zone with it lacks it and does that time well there’s desperation right now on the part of the Wild especially in that defensive area you watch them here getting the puck and they just don’t know where to go with it they slow down a little bit and with that slowing down comes some errant passes some errant shots coming out of the zone and the Bruins have really picked up their pace paul Coffee breaks it up through center coffee trying to go coast to coast gives it to Thornton thornton on the back hand play broken up by Sutton now Stacy Roose good play getting it out of the zone to Maxim Sushinski sushinsky across the line kicked aside by Du Fo pellerin has it dragged down on the play and play will go right on here comes Dixon Ward canuba busting towards the net coffee in on the offensive now it’s Ward behind gets it to the blue line coffee can’t keep it in the zone coffeew wearing number 74 here out of respect to Raymond Bourke long time number 77 in a Boston Bruins uniform hendrickson and Leision has it [Applause] pellerin near side boards couldn’t control the puck van Imp gets it up towards Mike Venubal now Hendrickson Sweeney gets to it first don Sweeney Scott Pellerin everyone’s gathered in the neutral zone sweeney ahead to Samson samson waiting allison busting towards net man in at the blue line knocked down by the captain Scott Pellerin sutton up the boards hendrickson with time to bring it out hendrickson up to Neielson three green jerseys converge in a short amount of distance neielen wants it neielson controlling on the boards he’ll dump it behind as the Wild get a couple of fresh skaters out there taken in the neutral zone by 77 seek over to 27 O’Donnell o’donnell flips it up ahead and pumped into the zone by Antie Laxin that little short pass from O’Donnell up to Laxin just enough to get it into the zone take off some of the pressure brian Rollston played for three different teams last year he is with the Bruins this year his Bruins trail the Minnesota Wild by a score of 32 one [Music] so I hope you like lobster [Music] everything all right fine [Music] i’m sorry now our friends at Bourne they’ve preferred it business advisor to the Minnesota Wild give you this game summary look at the shots on goal 2616 but more importantly look at the shots on the power play in eight opportunities 12 for the Wild wild with 12 shots on the power play tonight that equaled the total of the Boston Bruins total shots through two periods this evening sec and our score is 321 and I would bet that the coach and the players have talked about the fact that let’s not get any penalties guys and put ourselves in a hole watch out in front shot in the tight quarter situation on the net by PJ Axelson almost a very costly turnover something you talked about Tom right in front of Manny Fernandez and the turnovers are coming because of the pressure that the Bruins are really putting on they don’t want to get beat by an expansion team that’s the way they look at it right now and especially Mike Keenan I’m sure has brought that to the attention of the players in that locker room they have come up with a lot more jump on the step than we saw in the first two periods they’ve been beat by one already under the Keenan control that was the Atlanta Thrashers who whooped them up 8-3 in one of the first games that Mike Keenan had behind the bench bruins have played better since that point though in fact they beat Ottawa not long ago which is considered a very very strong victory with the Senators being one of the top teams in the East one of the top teams in the National Hockey League seven minutes played here in the third bouncing puck into the center ice area barto stops it goes to the stick of the Bruins and they go near side to Bill Garren garren through center dumps it in on the backand thornton Coffee venison behind the net it’s Garren trying to gain control he cannot do so venison taps it up to Neielson he goes down and a penalty is going to be called jeff Neielsen with a good hustle effort at his own blue line draws a Bruins penalty ninth power play of the night for the Wild tripping the call well the both referees at the same time put their hands up in the air to make that call neielson tried a little jump step to his left here along the boards he as he came out out from along the boards watch right here you see the little play here coming and that’s uh Ben coming in here makes a little play up here and watch a little jump he tries to step up off to the side you could see the leg come out there and as a result that penalty will be called against Kovaleno i said he’s minus 17 in just 18 games coming into this contest so tripping is the penalty call kovaleeno signed as a free agent last year he was in Carolina and had 15 goals and 39 points he’s had too many times this season Tom as you said when he has been on the ice when the opponents have scored a goal well he won’t get a minus on this one he’s in the box he might be minused in Mike Keenan’s mind though pellerin to Creov creveroff walking in shot save made by Defo and what a beautiful one in that creassoff looking for his first of the season wheeled in with speed after Jim Dow sent him reeling down the wing and Defoe gets that arm on the ground again you know the one thing is when you have a player who’s out with an injury especially when it’s a leg injury like a knee you don’t want to bring him back too soon and the Wild were very smart to keep him out this youngster is not showing any signs at all that he had ever had an injury you see Defo coming out challenging him as Krie Krassoff tried to come on the inside but the big mitt just comes out uses a glove to make the save and keep that puck from going in the net on the power play now it’s 3-1 it could easily be 6-1 if not for the efforts of the man they call Lord Byron byron Defoe 24 saves for the Bruins power play continues hendrickson on the draw controlled by Jason Allison allison had struggled on faceoffs in the first two periods winning four losing a total of eight bombadier now has it behind his own net you know one of the guys that Boston put 10 of their uh success on this year was also John Grant the goalender who was got hurt in an off ice incident and has not been able to play and won’t for a while yet it appears hendrickson has it power play for Minnesota hendrickson looking gets it down played to the point bombadier bombader shot rebound sashinski he scores a power play goal power play goal number three of the night for the Wild it is 41 Minnesota well they say it comes in bunches and that’s exactly what happens right here and you watch the play taking taking play and you want everyone involved in here there’s Henderson with a puck along the boards you’ll see as he makes a little move it looked like he was going to go to the outside has that little fake puck goes back to point watch a shot by Bombadier right off the pipe and look where Sajinski is right on the doorstep one of the guys they get back from that injury session that the Wild have had he just makes no mistake 24 square feet no mistake putting it in well that’s what you call being in the right place at the right time that coming at 8 minutes 15 seconds of the third period sixth goal of the year for Maxim Sushinski the Wild’s third power play goal here tonight this looks like the game we saw Sunday back at the XL Energy Center power play goals that day though belong to Bill Garren in the Edmonton Oilers tonight Mike Keenan’s team has been victimized by this power play that came into this evening without a single power play goal on the road in this inaugural season well giving the assist to Bombader and also to Hendrickson on that play henderson made a nice play and on the board little fake like he was going to go that way and you could see everyone pinch into the boards he turned went the opposite way that opened up the avenue allowed the Wild to move the puck around and finally get the shot to the target and it’s right in the net maximum Sushinsky doesn’t score one goal very often tom goals always seem to come in twos scored two October 18th against Tampa sushinsky has two here tonight as does Luir Seish ironically both of those Young Wild players their fifth and sixth goals of the year only thing we would need to complete this story is if it was also Sushinsk’s 32nd birthday but it is not he’s glad of that you heard that right 26-year-old Max Sushinsky O’Connell behind the net tries to get it out of the zone wild led by three for just about a minute in the second period they want to be more careful here now that they’ve worked so hard to get that three-goal lead one more time well I can’t tell you how important that goal was to to give them that three-goal lead had they given that next goal up to the Bruins this would have been a different ball game but now gives them a little more breathing room and I think a little more jump in their step this time yeah you know it’s funny Tom you said that Boston had control of this third period and they did but the Wild get the chance with the man advantage they capitalize and now they are 10 and a half minutes away from their first win ever against the Boston Bruins and their third of the season away from downtown St paul well in nine of their games this year out of the 20 games they played coming into tonight’s contest they had scored one or less goals in that session that’s been their their their problem it isn’t so much losing the games as it is their ability to not score the goals to win those very important close games and so scoring four goals tonight is a big plus for this team and the fact as you called it making sure that their power play is starting to to work capitalize a little bit gives them a little more confidence too iron Mike back to the drawing board get the number two lead pencils out again I suppose but this is as you said a work in progress oh sure as it is for Jacqu Lamar’s team coffee a shot saved and held on to by Manny Fernandez like to remind you wild single game tickets are on sale now at the XL Energy Center box office and at all ticket master locations good tickets still remain for games against the Calgary Flames Wednesday and Vancouver Sunday on this upcoming Thanksgiving weekend call 651-989-5151 or log on at ticketmaster.com paul Coffee wearing number 74 ray Bour for so many years number 77 20 seasons in a Boston Bruins uniform interesting when you look at the race for the all-time leading defenseman in the scoring race this race right now is four points different bor has a total of 1533 career points paul Coffee comes in tonight Tom with 1529 career points coffee leads in assists bourc leads in goals and now they’re playing in this same area where Robert was a superstar for a decade well I mean they’ve got a number of players who have had their jerseys retired here led by this gentleman right here who has just been a tremendous player started playing against Bobby in 1964 when he was a junior in Ashawa and just a very very classic guy and as you said before you know the respect that Ray Bourc has received in this building Paul Coffee in particular by not taking 77 you know at some point there will be a 77 hanging from these Raptors as well coffee gets it across cultic shot held on by Manny Fernandez 1972 the last Stanley Cup won by the Boston Bruins who had an incredible string of making the postseason 29 consecutive times now Bill Garren in the lineup tonight Tom he wore number nine in Edmonton he will not wear number nine here in Boston for a very very good reason johnny Buick’s number hangs in the Raptor so Billy Garren will go with 13 last worn by the Rat Ken Lindman you remember those days yes I certainly do saw unlucky 13 a few times didn’t you coffee shot fernandez flipped out of play you know what’s been good about Fernandez in this game also we’re not seeing any rebounds coming off of him we saw a short one just a few moments ago but in a position where he could just grab on that last one little save kicks up he knocks it over the glass forced the face off he is he has really emerged here as a a very top-notch goalender for this hockey club shakare said “We need goalending number one you know we get to solid play between the pipes we can win some games.” Now Manny and Jamie McClennon have split times almost almost 50/50 now 11 games played for McClennon and now 11 games played for Fernandez mlennon got the consecutive starts when Manny Fernandez was down with the ankle injury manny with a 2.66 goals against and nearly a 900% save percentage decision wants it to get deep in the zone he doesn’t have that but there’s only 944 on the clock now as Bates circles in his own end shawn Bates 25year-old from Melrose Massachusetts same hometown as Keith Kachchuck bates ties up Sushinski pelerin wanted it axelson over skates and Hendrickson pumps it into the Bruins zone taken there by Boston 9 and 1/2 minutes on the clock axelson across the red line dumps it in ear in on theision fernandez out he lost the stick in a collision oh it was deflected and went off the post elo the sision and Fernandez collided behind the net fernandez lost a stick and the Bruins almost scored a goal taking the puck out of midair but they didn’t and so the score remains 4-1 sutton takes a elbow elbowing penalty in the third period here that penalty coming at 1046 bruins on their power play bruins with their fifth power play of the night to the point bouncing puck and Allison could not keep it in the zone cool i hate when that happens man you’re a defensive back then that thing starts to jump on you and you try everything you can to keep it in doesn’t always work o’donnell spins and fires allison takes it off the body and now Samson off to Jason Allison the point and Rston rston across bouncing puck again controlled by the Bruins shot wide of Manny Fernandez allison has it jason Allison good pass to Colton and shot high it goes off the back of Lumir Seek and he is going down hard seek caught that shot right in the lower part of his left back area hendrickson has it and is able to clear as Seekish goes to the bench and he is in pain well there’s not much protection in that in that area he turned to take one of the one of the ruins out of the play and when he turned all of a sudden that shot just caught him right in the open area kovaleeno wanted it pellerin keeps it just for a moment though samson off Rston long drive way out of play all right Tom 566 responses to our question tonight treasure Island Resort and Casino trivia question was this only two players have led their respective team in goals assists points and penalty minutes in the last 20 years who were they what teams did they play for and in which season we gave you the hint of Stan Smeal the steamer in 7980 how about last year joe Thornton with these very Boston Bruins katherine Olsen Hopkins Minnesota congratulations she was the first to answer the question correctly gets a great overnight gift package from our friends at Treasure Island Resort and Casino yeah watch you’ll see right here you can see as he turns and that hurts could have been a lot worse that’ll leave a mark could have been me coffee brings it up coffee gets it across neutral zone bruins want it west Walls working diligently on the defensive end of this hockey game fernandez wild bounce watch behind he gets back in the net bruins control 22 seconds on the man advantage rston had it taken away by Wall coffee can’t keep it in laxin trying to get around Paul Coffee he does he’s brought down coffee is forced to take the penalty he will go to the box well that’s the speed once again we talked about Coffey’s going to the box he’s not happy about the call but Lockson great anticipation where that puck is going to go and was able to cut to his left tried to step around Coffee who’s a who’s a master at handling the speed as well but watch right here as he comes in look where the stick is gets up around the around the gloves brings it up high the officials very quick to make the call so the penalty to Sutton will be nullified and it will be barring other penalties it will be Minnesota’s turn to go on the power play that coming at 12 minutes and 34 seconds of the period 34 so La Mer sees the man who used to play for the Bruins helped to draw the penalty there antie Laxon in good hustle play coffee drags him down we’ll have four on four for 12 seconds while the penalty time expires on Sutton then the Wild will have their 10th count them 10th power play of the night three power play goals for Minnesota the first three in franchise history on the road here in this first ever season allison in on Bennison samson has it for Boston out of the box comes Sutton onto the power play go the Wild gil a shot bouncing puck to the glove side of Manny Fernandez coulson Allison Pompadier all converge as does Pellerin a good body shot to Uerno Coulton jim Dow flips it in the zone dow with a couple of assists on the night came in leading this team in assists now he has 13 helpers on the season backhanded to the neutral zone bombader takes it there bombader has been a nice addition since coming back from that injury he has really helped this club offensively pellerin skates down the loose puck pellerin in front of the net loose puck shot score power play goal one more time this time it’s Darby Hendrickson not one not two not three four Minnesota Wild power play goals here tonight well once again that play started in the neutral zone the transition game is so important and it comes as you mentioned about the power play look at this the first 10 games 0 and 46 on the road tonight four for 10 that will increase their percentages dramatically watch right here pellerin going in here to get to the puck gets it just chips it in front of the net get it to the front of the net you never know what’s going to happen and you can see Henderson coming from the far side no one else can get to it it’s in the in the net i think also that there may be an assist going back to Bombadier who started the play back in the neutral zone so the Wild with their fourth power play goal of the night third goal of the season for the Minnesota native Darby Hendrickson most importantly the Wild lead the Boston Bruins by a score of five- one 13 minutes pelerin and Bombadier as you talked about with the assist on the Darby Hendrickson power play goal as Bombadier with his second assist of the game third assist of the game pardon me scott Pellerin with his second assist on this night boy and this uh this crowd is vacated the premises here pretty quick once that last goal had gone in they were still hoping for something good to happen boston used to have the number of the Northstars way back when until Glenn Somour turned around back in 1980 by winning in the playoffs but also the biggest the most penalties ever in a game between Boston and Minnesota 406 minutes wow in penalties and Bob Curts who’s here tonight doing the radio comes back to his home here and he and I were doing the broadcast of that game that was a long one i bet it lasted more than a couple hours glove by Fernandez sure did he will hold on so we will step aside Darby Hendrickson the latest to score on the power play which has become lethal this evening radio announcer who covered the Red Sox for Nessen for over a decade some signs in the stands honoring Curtsy’s return to Boston here tonight that’s thanks for leaving stuff like that absolutely here’s your coat and hat what’s your hurry come back again sometime when you can’t stay so long he’s actually staying a couple of extra days so that he can go in some mountain climbing with some of his friends from this area he has friends yeah lived up in New Hampshire when he was here and uh going to he bought a a bag big enough for for four weeks it looks like i asked him what was in there he said some refreshments so I can understand he’s going to check his he’s going to check his email and answer his cell phone frequently isn’t he i’m sure he will all he does is talk why jacqu Lameair pleased with the efforts here tonight 51 our score wild with five different players enjoying multiple point nights against the Boston Bruins minnesota looking to go to 52 3 and one on this hockey season this is going to be a case where the Wild are going to have won more games on the road now Tom all of a sudden than they have at home shot off to the side of Manny Fernandez stacy Roose and Dixon Ward to center leision helps to break it up he flips it out 5 and a half minutes remain in the third period of play 30 shots for Minnesota 22 for Boston you know what I like about this team also as a concept and this is really a team when I asked Jimmy D before about you know leading this team in scoring this this season right now and you know is he surprised by that his first response was you know he didn’t even think about that what he’s thinking about more than anything else is just getting some victories with this hockey club the expansion team needs some wins and need that confidence and that tells you that that this is really a team concept now they certainly have progressed over the last week had the Rangers on the ropes and the Savers on the rope win here today they’ll have Calgary on Wednesday then we will see you on MSC Fox Sports Net the day after Thanksgiving November 24th 12:30 our pregame show begins as the Wild are set to take on one more time the Chicago Blackhawks at the Excel Energy Center maxim Sushinsky did not play against the Hawks when the Wild were victorious at the United Center just about one week ago faceoff controlled by Minnesota but just for a moment puck bouncing towards Fernandez played behind by PJ Axelson gets it to the point cutlick a shot deflected wide to Fernandez now it’s Coffee in Bartos trying to tie the puck up quick shot pat save made walls can’t clear a Bombardier will bring it out flips it ahead for Peter Bartos and Gloved taken now by Byron Defoe cut has seen a lot of ice time here tonight in just his fourth game played this season 20-year-old rookie out of Czechoslovakia ear and an easy stick save from Manny Fernandez now it’s O’Donnell he will leave it deep in the zone to West Walls walls 93 to 95 in the Bruins organization puck hit the bench area and so they’re going to whistle it down we open the door let that puck out for a moment and it did and so that will bring the face off just outside the Minnesota bench with 406 to go and a 5-1 lead for the Wild now we’ll be busy as West Coast will be the destination for this hockey team after Thanksgiving and so stay up late with us on Tuesday November 28th right here on KMSB as the San Jose Sharks will face off against the Minnesota Wild don’t forget day after Thanksgiving in addition to some hockey also the prep bowl on Channel 9 Hockey on Fox Sports Net sit home digest that turkey don’t Don’t go outside there’s no reason to go outside unless you’re going to one of the games of course all feathers off that turkey you got that right now back to the neutral zone hand pass is made well you can just feel the frustration the part of the the Bruins right now little things like that almost like they don’t care what’s going to happen here the little hand pass and taking the pass and I’m looking next door to us sitting right beside us as the the new general manager who spent six years as the assistant gym Mike O’Connell who was named in that position on 111 when Harry senden stepped down harry served as the president of this team for 12 years and 28 years as a GM and there’s Michael Tunnel not very happy with uh the results that he’s seeing here right now he retired at the end of 1989 90 now Harry Syninden 28 years since 1972 was the general manager as you said he’ll remain as president the amazing thing about Syninden Tom he has been with the Bruins organization since 1961 you want to talk about job security yeah and I tell he’s I mean you talk to anybody and they tell you how how bright he is when it comes to uh acting as a general manager knowing the rules and how they change but he’s been on the rules committee selection committee for many many years so he’s involved in a lot of the changes that have taken place over the years left Patrick award in 99 for his achievements on hockey in the US side also the hall of fame in 1983 as a builder now he built a heck of a franchise here for a lot of years with the Boston Bruins 10 division championships five conference titles 26 winning seasons with Cindon is the GM now they’re looking at the drawing board though and wondering what they need to do to be successful this hockey season off sides delayed puck is cleared and no icing 2 minutes 49 seconds remain the Wild in command here tonight in Boston ending this quick two-game road trip in style o’donnell tried to glove it kovaleenko in on Shawn O’Donnell andre Kovaleeno pass the stick of Bill Garrett so not a very good debut for Garren with the Bruins look the feed one in towards Fernandez bounced off his pad and out of the zone bartos with speed cutlick is on him behind the play jeff Nielsen couldn’t get the shot away in quickly towards the net also was West Walls bartos has a shot he scores peter Bartos scores his second goal in as many nights it is 61 Minnesota and that is an even strength goal coming at 1745 of the period i saw the speed of him going down there once again it looked like the play was going to be nullified but with this speed and the puck just kind of squirted to him and good patience with the puck also when he got the puck he come comes in from behind the net watch the bottom of your screen here he picks it up watch how he just steps around here a little fake go on the outside you lose sight of him he just holds holds holds takes a little look comes back to the stick side he’s going one way comes back to the opposite side puts it away and he gives the Wild a five a five fivegoal lead which will be their largest margin of victory this season wild tying a franchise record with six goals scored they scored six goals October 18th against Tampa Bay when they were victorious for the first time ever by a final score of six to five this one has never been in doubt since we started this third period with Susinsky scoring on the power play at 8:15 it was in doubt the way the Bruins came out at the beginning of the third but when Susinsky gave this hockey team a three-goal lead for the second time they have just continued to pour it on the Bruins by far the most decisive victory in Wild history 90 plus seconds remain yeah and the transition game has been pretty good in this entire contest too when they’ve gotten the puck they very have made that change where they’ve got it they move it right back up ice again and they’ve been rewarded with some of the goals that they pick up in this game because of it well the Wild played well against Chicago scored a lot of goals against Edmonton ended up losing those contests well at least the one against Edmonton in overtime beat Chicago at the United Center then the offense was stifled now tonight Scott Pellerin off the side of the net the dam has broken wide open again scored by number 45 hellerin gets it down to McKenna bartos unassisted at 1745 to make it 61 Wild under a minute remains the Wild are going to win for the third time this season on the road they will earn their fifth win overall darby Hendrickson he has a goal tonight auntie Laxin trails behind sushinsky with two goals sris with two goals two points susinsky with two goals two points pellerin with three assists bombadier with three assists hendrickson with a goal and an assist and Bartos with his second goal of the season also an assist on the night for Jim Dow total team effort bombadier with rston on and Susinsk’s hit by Ken Bologange a little frustration hit to the backside of Maxim Sushindi wild in a big time fashion as Bologon throws down a laxin we don’t need this at this point kenny Bon this game is over well he he very quickly went right to the players bench also i think he realized it too didn’t want to start something at this stage you’ve done nothing all game don’t do it now say hello Minnesota Wild fans to the road power play the power play unit are GMC players of the game brought to you by our friends at Pontiac GMC four count them four road power play goals two of those by Lubameir Seish well good for a good a good game all the way around for this hockey club they had the shots that they’re looking for 31 shots they only give up 24 more importantly they win this game and they won it very very handily back to wrap things up is the Wild
