Detroit's #1 priority should be a defenseman. Especially because of the very short list of top UFA D-men out there this year so you certainly would want an Ekblad. Unfortunately I really don't think that's likely. The next best candidate on the list and more likely to be okay in coming to Detroit in my opinion is Gavrikov.
2nd priority of course is a winger and no matter your feelings the stats say it all in where you would throw all your chips in to acquire and that's on Marner. Is it likely? Unfortunately just like Ekblad I don't see it. So it's all on Bennett we go because Boeser just ain't worth what's going to be his asking price by comparison.
Now I know people are gonna disagree with me here, but if we can also free up some more cap space by dropping the dead weight we all know in which I speak of. I'd pursue another needed temporary position to fill if we can, could and quite possibly doable.
It would be a reward vs risk or vice versa in how you want to look at it deal and that would be (C) Jonathan Toews at a very discounted rate. Of course due to the risk. 1yr, why not, what's to lose over a potential overall season points gain in our favour here in all reality or at best moving up another prospect under the tutelage of the likes of Toews.
I'd be a hard pass of Boeser as our top free agent acquisition. I think someone will go to him as their first choice if they're not in on Marner and snatch him up, while the teams waiting to see where Marner ends up.
I still want Gavrikov. 🐙
But if Kane leaves, Boeser is a fine replacement.
4-5 years 5-6.7 million maybe if not a bit more I’m not trying to undervalue him but I am not giving him 7 yrs and I’m not giving him more than 7 million

Too slow, doesn’t help enough defensively, and doesn’t score enough to overlook those deficits
The issue has nothing to do with Boeser. The issue is we have too guys like Copp, Compher, Tarantino and Holl to take yet another risk. If any of them a) were producing or b) we didn’t have 50% of them, Boeser would be worth it imo…. But Yzerman can’t take on another potential risk for the $$ demand until (2) of that crew are moved out imo. Scotty nailed it – The Detroit Red Wings need an identity…. It’s time to pick it.

The Red Wings aren’t getting anybody, and Steve Yzerman knows it which is also why Todd McLellan said what he said about there’s no help coming. The only way this team gets good is through the draft but that’s going to take a loooonnnngg time. Detroit just isn’t a destination, everywhere else is, plus they all have cap. You’re not getting Marner, you’re not getting Robertson, you’re not getting Ekblad, or Bennett, or Boeser. Those guys don’t want to go to Detroit. They want go to LA, FLA, ANA, etc. There’s really only one name I see coming this way potentially, and that’s Jared McCann but even then, that’s not 100%. Let’s get real people, the Red Wings aren’t the aggressive franchise you or I want them to be.
Oh man Scotty hit the nail on the head. This team has no identity and hasn't for a long time. I would honestly be ok with being a glass cannon because at least those games are fun to watch most of the time. This season was one of the worst seasons Ive watched since I stopped following hockey closely in the mid 2010s.
Man , I think Detroit needs a playoff goalie. It starts with having a solid goaltender and I don´t think Detroit has it

Gavrikov and Taes will make a massive digfetence in this team. Add Carter Maser too. Maybe Danielson plays himself in this fall. Who knows? SY said he still had a staryer goalie in mind, but picked up Petr M. so he wouldn"t be left with no one if it didn't work out. Oettenger or Stolarz would be awesome, if a miracle occurred. Otherwise, no one.
