HUGE OWEN POWER TRADE UPDATE: BUFFALO SABRES NEWS & RUMOURS
[Music] huh well you know honestly I feel kind of bad to be talking about this because I saw a lot of Buffalo Sabers fans on my social media timeline this weekend that were really upset about this upset about the narrative upset about the folks from other teams fan bases that were commenting and giving their thoughts on this which is why I am doing myself the very honorable pleasure of commenting on it myself and subjecting myself to some of these Buffalo Sabers tribulations but of course I want to be fair i want to talk about this in a way that takes a look at both points of views buffalo fans points of views and nonBuffalo fans point of views because today we are talking about a tweet that was making the rounds from NHL rumor report from Friday it went over a comment made by David Pñota of the fourth period speaking out about how NHL teams are poking around on Sabres defenseman Owen Power now let’s just be clear let’s get into semantics here what does poking around mean it means that other NHL teams are kind of sticking their head in the door they’re kind of creeping around the weekend style i don’t want to know they’re just poking their heads in seeing what’s up and then maybe they’re leaving maybe they’re not maybe they’re sticking around maybe they are asking Buffalo “Hey that guy what do you think about that guy Owen Power is he available?” That’s it that is all David Penota is saying these Owen Power trade talks entail and that’s what the tweet says but ultimately the idea of teams quote unquote poking around on Owen Power did get misconstrued by a lot of fans that are not Buffalo Sabres fans into saying “Oh the Sabres are shopping this guy.” That’s what that means buffalo is trading Owen Power they want to get this done no that is not necessarily the case although this trade update that we have does indicate that other NHL teams are asking the questions and of course you could also say hey I mean it’s not really news then at that point right I mean if every team asked about a player that doesn’t change whether or not that player is actually on the market no for the Buffalo Sabres they are in a spot where I think a lot of fans of the Sabres are Don’t hate me but I think y’alls are a little bit sensitive at this point because of all the extra rumors about Buffalo guys potentially not wanting to stick around long term because there already is this Bow and Byum trade saga that has been unfolding in front of our eyes alex Tuck may be on his way out depending on whether or not he’d want to stick around because of the uncertainty because of the lack of clarity because we don’t know and because us not knowing stuff is scary i think that’s why a lot of Sabers fans are jumping really quickly in to defend Bowen Power and say “Yeah no that guy’s not going to get traded what are you nuts?” And this was talked about even more on my Twitter timeline take a look at this Twitter exchange by Chad Denaminus who of course does stuff for the XBuffalo Pod and who self-proclaims himself as the dumbest Sabers fan or one of the top five dumbest Sabers fans i’m not going to get into the semantics of the 150th tweet of someone getting ratioed i’ll just tell you that Owen Power isn’t getting traded a reply from Bill’s Mafia056 says “I thought the power and Byum debate had been all but killed off i guess not there’s more than a few in there that still think the Saber should keep Byum it’ll be gone when Bo Byum is gone by next weekend.” So let’s see by this time next week is Bow and Byum still a Buffalo Saber hedge your bets and let me know in the comments section below but this of course is kind of a vulnerable time for the Buffalo Sabres just in terms of names that could be on the go jj Purka is the big one that I think everybody also has in the back of their minds there too purka Byum you could say to an extent Tuck but Owen Power I think is the one guy along with Dene and maybe Tage Thompson that most Sabers fans are not even thinking about in regards to a trade power if you needed the scoop has improved quite a significant bit over the past few years and that was always going to be expected he was a first overall pick for a reason he was never going to take that standardized path as a first overall pick you know we had a streak going on for 20some years almost 20 years a first overall picks immediately playing in the National Hockey League power was the first guy in almost that long to say “Nah sorry i’m not going to play in the NHL right away i’m going to go back to college and I’m going to play another full season with the Wolverines before suiting up in the National Hockey League at the end of that season power then had the next few years that he had had 30 point years backto-back seasons and then he had 40 points this previous year which is some sort of a miracle when you acknowledge how a lot of other Buffalo Sabers guys declined in point production too power with the nifty dangles and the feet that he’s got not to mention the big solid frame there’s a lot to like out of the long-term projectability of this 22-year-old and for a lot of Sabers fans who are already so enamored by watching Raasmus Dalene every single night there is this hope that Owen Power could bring some sort of a similar type value to the Buffalo Sabres maybe not in the same way but he could be equally efficient and also a super skilled player who does things his own way who has a more physically doineering style to the game and who can also play with some tremendous pace this is why a lot of Sabers fans seem to be pretty sensitive about the idea of trading him away especially when you consider the log jam that also exists with guys like Bow and Byum also being on this team once you get past that obstacle once that guy’s gone then all of a sudden there’s no real need to think about trading away an Owen power so what gives the fact that teams are apparently calling about him and asking poking their heads around about him shouldn’t be enough to warrant an entire oh Buffalo’s shopping this guy kind of discourse and so at the end of the day this Owen Power trade update is more so of just a status update really and I think a lot of Buffalo Sabres fans being upset about it yeah it makes sense considering the circumstances of the team considering the magnitude and how much Owen Power is valued internally and amongst this fan base we’re only human after all and we’re going to be pissed off when we see things that don’t align with our version of reality so with all that in mind I want you to let me know your thoughts in the comment section below do you have any extra final opinions about the Bowen Byum Ra Rasmosene Owen Power situation if you want to call it that in Buffalo how potentially Bo Byum’s hold up and his inability to get traded so far is the ultimate catalyst to Owen Power trade discussion and how Owen Power trade discussion might not even be worth talking about when you consider where he is at in his progression and where a lot of Sabers fans see him going the next couple of years let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about Owen Power and everything else in between i hope you enjoyed this roll and bye [Music] [Music]
