There's a problem with a defensive pairing when they are split apart. Dion Phaneuf went downhill after Roman Hamrlik left. Mike Komisarek was overrated when he left for the Leafs (was Markov's partner). Fabbro was paired with a Norris candidate so I'm not so sure that I would be going after him….he could be a dud without the right pairing.
Abor xhekaj should try playing forward
Vinzenz Rohrer is not a sneaky signing. He has been a very good prospect from day one. And what else is Marty supposed to say about his team, his captain, and top goal scorer?
21k!

They need a 2C and a significant veteran at that to play to feed Laine and make Demidov great already. The only centres I see now that Nelson was signed by Colorado (boooo damnit), I wouldn't mind bringing in Matt Duchene even if he's 34, he's a 50-60 pts guy still and he scored 34 last year. That is the most pressing need and I don't want to trade for the 2C either. I don't even want Bennett, because I'd have him replace Dvorak on the third line as he is leaving most likely since he's testing the market, I just like the idea of a 3rd line consisting of Gallagher-Bennett-Anderson, that would be a CRAZY GRITTY and ROUGH line, but we don't have the money for that as the 2C is the priority. I say shush to those that say to bring in Marner, not that I don't like him, but he needs to change scenery which means, change division entirely, he wouldn't want to be on the second line behind Suzuki, but that's what would happen, Suzuki was 1 point out of 90 and I bet he will get 90+ next season and likely have a couple of 100 pts season as his top peak in a few years. Some teams can manage two highly talented centres we've seen it, but MTL doesn't have the cash.
Laine-Duchene-Demidov as a second line would make me very happy, he'd likely happily sign 6.25 x 3 as our talented centers in our system, the most talented being Kapanen, if he reaches his potential, he will be the 2nd C or since Duchene can play on the wing, if Kapanen has fully exploded in 2 years, have Duchene finish on the wing. Not sure if Beck will ever break through, fully, I still believe in him, hopefully he gets better with Laval next season, they've already made it to the round before the Calder cup, so they had a good team indeed. Jared Davidson is doing very well for a 5th round pick and I hope he is showing something that the others don't in pre-season. It's too bad ABB is not considered good enough to play with the Habs, even with the NHL experience, the guy is an offensively minded guy but he never managed to stick in the NHL for more than a third line role, if we get a 2C from UFA's or offer sheeting an RFA, I wouldn't mind bringing him in the team (ABB) as our third centre but I guess the organization is thinking we have enough small players, so even if Farrell did great season and playoffs, I don't think he's ever going to play for us either.
Fowler is likely graduating to Monty's backup already and we will see how long until he becomes 1B and then the roles reverse, 'cuz despite Primeau's amazing AHL season, he wasn't too good in the playoffs with that SV% under .900, I think he's gone now, even Connor Hughes left for Europe as we have a glut of goalies in the AHL and next season is gonna be Dobes as starter for Laval and whoever else we can place as backup, it sucks Hughes left because he was pretty good, in the AHL.
Why bring in a dman when Mailloux is likely taking Savard's place next season? The small sample of NHL games we have from him has been positive and I think it's time he graduates the AHL, yes I'm aware he was -7 in the playoffs, but almost all of the team was in the negative except for Beck, Engstrom (who also increased his value as a dman we have in the system imo) and a guy who likely won't ever play in the NHL again after that free trip last season in Condotta in the top 10 players, points wise in the playoffs. So the whole team was pretty bad overall defensively or Primeau and Fowler, having played the same number of games, had a few awful nights bringing everyone's defensive stats down, I followed the Rocket quite a bit but didn't watch all the games or neither was I aware of all the games except for the semi-final against Charlotte.
Got to wait and see what Bogdan look/do at training camp ☝️
Coach learning with a team is a unique concept in modern hockey. Most teams like to hire retreads. I like this approach.
Vinzenz is going to be a monster on penalty killing. Plus he has a good shot and drives the net like Gallagher.
braden schneider from rangers would be ideal
How many targets so far this year
Just my opinion, but I think the Habs would regret moving Logan Mailloux. I have seen this team trade young promising dman with disastrous results. I'm hoping they go forward with Reinbacher and Mailloux.
Lets be honest here. The future Stanley cup caliber Ds are Reinbacher (if not always injured), Hutson and Guhle. Every other Ds will come via trades or FA signings. And they will all be over 6’2”. Meanwhile, any other Ds will be fillers until we get to be a Stanley cup contender
Any chance the Habs offer sheet Morgan Geekie? Bruins are inherently cheap and Geekie a big, good center that scored 33 goals last year.
The Habs picked Mailloux and Reinbacher in the first rounds of their respective drafts. I think it's about time that they both make the Habs roster next year. I mean these guys are not 18 years old anymore. I think Mailloux is gonna be 23 next year or something. The less the Habs try to acquire these different other more expensive D-Men from other teams, the more they will save money on the market cap, which will eventually give the Habs the necessary cap space to bring in the appropriate superstar free agent at the right time, like say in 2026 or 2027 that may get them a genuine shot at the Stanley Cup…Keeping the rebuild going another year or two might be the most economical and Cap friendly way to go forward to build a Stanley Cup champion, but they risk putting a too young team on the ice in the interim that destroys all the winning momentum that the team has built up in the past 2 yrs.. So what I'm saying is that, if Hughes does not go and get that 2C and that top 4 RHD right now, he could risk going backwards as the team becomes too young and misses the playoffs again. Hughes does not have an easy job at determining what the best way forward is for the team to be true contenders, but it's going to be very interesting in the next year or two..
I think Arpon just picks names out of a hat. There never seems to be any smoke let alone fire from his picks. I certainly have not heard that Fabbro's team is shopping him.
I don’t think St-Louis will be there for too long unlike you guys, sorry. Right now he looks good because expectations are low and the team is young. We will see once expectations are high and the team reaches maturity. His line changes are sketchy and he rewards effort and compliance and NOT raw talent which scares me. I don’t like his line management and line matching which often gives the opposing team the advantage. Maybe it’s just me but Pascal Vincent seems to be a better match for the type of team they have. We’ll see
Rohrer showed excellent skating at the recent WHC and is starting to display the skills that has moved him up on the Canadiens' prospect list. As the Russians say: if you can skate: everything is possible. If you can't: nothing is. Rohrer can skate.
