He should NEVER EVER BEEN RESIGNED. Dubas gave him a ridiculous contract and screwed the team from making moves fhen He moved to Pens amazing
Moving off of Rielly would be my first move. He is never going to play up to his salary. Get something for him, or just unload that contract
If the leafs are serious they'd figure a way to move on from him. he isn't producing the offence he needs to .
I guess but what do you imagine trading Morgan Rielly, if you can convince him to waive his no trade will net you? He has a no move clause till 2028. The 31 year old half point a game defenseman (7 goals this year and last) has a $7.5 million cap hit and makes $8 million next year. How many people want to pay 8$ million and suffer a 7.5 million cap hit for 5 more years?.
I think you have to give something up to get someone to take this.

Morgan Reilly isn't waving his no-trade clause. I worked near he and his Olympic Gold Medalist wife's Rosedale house. I'm not sure what she's doing now, but I'm sure it's something local.
Finally Adam nailed it. Mo has been building a legend off of one season where the rest of the team was awful and someone had to score the goals. I personally think he's the dressing room mole and that's why Babs singled him out for thanks when Babs got axed. If you can't trade him then I buy him out.

Reilly could be a good veteran on a young Flames team looking to make playoffs
Then you call Montreal and trade for a Matheson or a Strubble they are loaded with LHD
maybe send a P. Myers back or picks Habs need RD / size in line up
Matheson a puckmoving top 4 D that if paired with a Carlo or Tanev would do well
Or a Strubble that can play with anyone can play LD but played most of his College hockey as RD and is a thick physical white decent 2way D
Or since Buffalo doesn’t seem to mind trading talent to division rivals go for a guy like Bowen Byram …

The Leafs should move Heaven and Earth to convince Reilly to waive his NMC and the team will be so much better simply from addition by subtraction. The Leafs should be willing to retain up to 1.5 million (a little over the later years average of a buyout) to help accommodate a trade easier as well. They have to approach it aggressively but respectfully since he has been a beloved member of the team and community for the last 12 years. The unfortunate reality of the Leafs situation is if there was 1 player from the team you could remove to make the biggest improvement to the team overall, aka change a large chunk of the teams DNA in 1 trade or buyout, Morgan Reilly is the #1 option to be removed at every perspective even if Marner stayed.
Doesn’t matter if a player has partial or full NMC,if a team doesn’t want that player-he is going to get moved sooner rather than later.The only way that player is staying is if the team can’t find a team willing to take him and they just can’t afford to buy him out.The problem with the Buds is they have been more interested with what looks good rather than what is good.
Just send him to western canada he'll waive. He's good enough to play with both Myers and Hughes, or Anderson and Weager they'd be stupid not to take him

Morgan rielly isn’t the problem. Look at the oilers defense, everyone is an offensive defensemen and a 2way D. Leafs have Tanev and Carlo and Benoit. They need to get rid of McCabe for an offensive guy to move the puck

Morgan is a lousy defenceman at 7.5 million. He sucks in the playoffs. Ask him and if he refuses play hardball with Reilly.

That they both prefer to stay in TML tells me they care more about Where they play vs How they play.
