Every talking head that is not a Habs fan wants Hutson to sign the most expensive contract possible for all negative reasons.
Take no head to the reports from around the league. If Hutson signs a contract under 9M per year for 8 years we will be set for the future in the rising cap world to afford a great deep team.

if montreal get 1 guy 6ft 5 in he may make it but if montreal get 5 or 6 guys that size we should have at least get one or two to choose from . GHG

Let's face it ..Lane LOVES MONTREAL ..!! He will sign for sure at a reasonable price ..!! Hughes should go out and get M.Necas from Colorado.!! He wants to play in Montreal . And would fit in with this core .!! DO IT ..!!
Arpon B 🤦♂ I don't think I ever saw any prediction of his come to pass. As for the draft, the Habs will be getting a true 2C this summer and are hoping Hage eventually takes on that role. They absolutely should be drafting for our 3rd and 4th lines as our top 6 core (depending on if Laine works out) is going to be locked in for many years. Great Show! Keep the faith and Go Habs Go!
There is no offensive defenceman in Habs pipeline that can do what Hutson does so imo he will be offered an 8 year deal as a bridge could result in his next contract being extremely expensive if he wins the Norris. Using Seider as an example, he won the Calder with a 50 pt season and signed a contract for $8.55M pa and the Red Wings haven't made the playoffs. Therefore my take is that Hutson will be offered between $9-$9.5M and accept given he is all about the team. He will probably be offered same %age to the Cap as Suzuki which seems fair.

Boys, you really think that the kid is worth that kind of money? They better keep some money for the next calder winner Ivan Demidov. I would trade Lane Hutson right now while he is worth something. At 5'8'' and 160 pounds playing defence in the NHL is worth 10 mil a year for 8 years? Remember PK Suban? He was suppose to be the next big thing for the CH. The kid is good, but he has a lot more to show before he gets that kind of cash.

If they had realized they needed size/complete in 22, the 2 size/compete players they would have drafted instead of Mesar and Rohrer would have been ready for 25-26 and they wouldn't be still looking.

Take into consideration when Suzuki signed his extension in 2021 to start next season, the team cap was only at $81.5M. Cap is projected to be $95.5M. So Suzuki's $7.875M cap hit would be now about $9.25M currently if signing happened now based on cap percentage. Impossible to hold new contracts to outdated standards.
