Sabres Players Who Could Be on Their Way OUT

Sabres Players Who Could Be on Their Way OUT

what’s going on guys it’s Cal here from Buffalo Sports Center today we’re going to be talking about some Sabres that could potentially be on the way out this off seasonason in the beginning of this off seasonason I really didn’t think the Sabres would be making too many changes their roster was just so you know loaded and I don’t mean uh talented in any way but just so many players that were under contract it was going to be hard to kind of restructure this team but now there’s some added pressure on the front office as several players about a quarter of the team have voiced frustrations about the direction of this team and uh you know maybe roles in the system and again a 14 uh season playoff drought that is certainly going to take the priority among these players and I I can’t blame them for speaking out and here’s a list of some players I think could be on the way out let’s start with JJ Purka hopefully this does not happen because if JJ Purka gets traded it better be for somebody really really talented because I think JJ Purka has all the tools to become one of the best players in the league in the next couple of seasons and before you you know start questioning that statement just think of how Purka plays he has a wicked shot um he has some good speed and he is a very smart player as well the only issue with JJ Purka is his confidence once he gets that confidence up and he starts taking the puck end to end there is no stopping him again I’ve watched him from team Germany with the Red Bulls all the way up to when he got drafted as a saber he’s been one of my favorite prospects in the uh the entire National Hockey League for a long time and I think JJ Purka has unlimited potential so hopefully they don’t move JJ Purka but he has voiced some frustrations he was on a podcast I believe a German podcast and he was um very uh negative towards the Sabres not you know not saying he wants out or anything like that but kind of you know questioning the franchise a little bit which aren’t we all moving on to the next candidate Bowen Byum i think he is a for sure out this off season again pending RFA um Bo Byum I I highly doubt the Sabres resign him i think they’re going to trade his rights away he is one of those guys who is a talented defenseman but he’s kind of a copycat of other guys that we have whereas the Sabres need to get some more defensive defenseman right the defense has been terrible and when your one two is Rasmus Stallene and Owen Power you don’t really need a Bow and Byum following that up again he kind of seems lost in the system he also doesn’t have a spot on the power play right now either which I know is something that he values he also wants to be one of the top offensive defenseman on a team which in Buffalo surprisingly he isn’t because the Sabres have again Dalene and Power the two younger players who are you know trying to become the future uh on that blue line for the Savers so I think Bowen Brooms are for sure gone uh I think he has a ton of value a guy who is very offensive minded a guy who has some speed has a nice shot um and is very young as well so I think Bow and Byum is going to be a great trade piece we’ll see if Kevin Adams can get anything in return moving on to the next guy I think that could be gone matias Samuelson hopefully this happens right he is very frustrated apparently he’s on a terrible contract that Kevin Adams gave him after playing less than a full season of NHL hockey locked him up for several years big time money hopefully Samuelson can force his way out of Buffalo that would help not only Samuelson but also the team and the cap situation so Matias Samuelson not much to say about him has been a huge disappointment the last couple seasons again injuryprone as well so if he wants out I would trade him i would even give away picks to get rid of him at this point next guy I want to talk about is Alex Tuck one of the guys who quote unquote Kevin Adams has said wants to be here yet he has voiced displeasure this off seasonason as well and how could you not again I’m not blaming any of these players for being unhappy but Alex Tuck one of those guys who you know is captain material you know is is one of those guys who we really thought was going to change the franchise around uh was uh you know very high on Buffalo as a Sabres fan growing up all of a sudden he could play a pivotal role in the direction of this franchise he could speak out he could really get in Kevin Adams ear and say “Hey if you don’t change this I want out.” And if the Sabres had to trade Alex Tuck because he was unhappy that would be the ultimate sign of disrespect because Alex Tuck you know two seasons ago was a team first guy one of those guys who represented Buffalo if he doesn’t even want to be here for his childhood team nobody wants to be here and that’s a true sign of a depleting franchise so Alex Tuck I I’m I really doubt he gets traded but maybe the Sabres look to shake things up and it if he’s involved in any trades you know this front office is just in complete disarray moving on to the last guy I want to talk about this video Owen Power highly doubt the Sabres trade him but Owen Power has you know lacked development in his defensive game has been very good offensively i think has even exceeded expectations at points on that front but his defense continues to lack physicality and situational awareness in front of the net so if the Sabres maybe wanted to take a chance and trade Owen Power for a lot of uh of talent the other way maybe a hockey trade a one for one something like that I could see it happening because again you don’t have to rely on Owen Power to be your franchise defenseman you have that in Rasmus Dalene so if the Sabres are really that concerned about Owen P’s development they could flip him in this off seasonason again Kevin Adams is on the last year of his uh contract as GM lindy Ruff also last year of his coaching career potentially if this doesn’t get turned around so a whole lot of pressure on the Sabres organization let me know in the comments section below if I missed anyone if you think any of these players in specific will be gone again the only for sure thing here is Bowen Byum i don’t really see a world where any of these other guys I mentioned get traded unless it is just the perfect situation so thank you guys for watching this video leave a like subscribe and have a good one peace out

Today Cal goes through five Sabres players who may have played their final game for Buffalo as Kevyn Adams looks to make one last push at breaking the franchise’s 14-year playoff drought.

  1. Byram ,Samuelsson and Lafferty- bye bye! Sabres dont need 3 left shot offensive D men. Trade Byram for a much needed D partner for Power. K' andre Miller , Colton Parayko or Jamie Oleksiak would fit the bill. I hope in July Adams & Kekalainen give Tuch a 6 or 7 year extension. Ill be pissed if they trade Tuch ! I think Peterka signs longterm unless Adams & Kekalainen convince Marner to sign in Buffalo then Peterka might just get a bridge deal. Get someone more physical for the 4th line and trade or waive lafferty. Trade the 9th overall pick in the draft and Samuelsson .
First thing A&K need to do is to FIRE D coach Marty Wilford!

  2. Much rather trade Owen Power than Byrum. Bow Byrum has more grit and if they decided to go with him instead of Power, Byrum would be able to get more minutes and play a bigger role. Power defensively has been disappointing not something we'd expect from a former 1st round and trading him might be what is needed to change the make-up of this team chemistry wise.

  3. Hey Cal! Just a suggestion, but I think doing a video comparing Byrum and Power with pros and cons of each would be an interesting discussion. IMHO I think Keeping Byrum and trading Power would suit this teams long term goals better as Byrum's temperament is what this teams needs verses Power who is more of a finesse player who lacks the physicality that the Sabres defense lacks. That being said I am open minded to read and hear what others opinions on this topic that would be to change my mind.
