Hmmm… cMac painted himself into a corner on this one. After giving up picks, prospects, and assets, he really needed to save face, and unfortunately, this was the move he had to make. Overall, I think it’s a bland one and I don’t see Nelson taking this team to the next level.
Are you sure we feel better about Val now? His post season hiccups in 23 and 24 were in the second round. They didn’t make the second round this year. We don’t really know what would have happened to him had they beaten Dallas.

In my opinion we gave up nothing for Nelson so hes found money, plus hes really solid all over the ice. This organization does not draft well or develop AT ALL so Ritchie was never going to become anything here so the old vet route is a way better option.
The Mikko trade looks worse and worse. 7.5 through his age 37 season, Necas is going to require $9 mil + to re sign him.
That is $16.5 AT LEAST, when Mikko would have taken $12 and given us another 4.5 AT LEAST to acquire another depth player. This was incredibly obvious at the time, and gets more obvious by the day…
