Why does everyone do this across the board in sports. Fantasy football hockey what have you, a player is only ever going to be what they were last year and that's it … Acting like 6.5 for output that's between what he did last year and the year prior isn't bad at all, and the guy has all the playoff experience and leadership you could ask for.
This deal honestly breaks my heart as a Rangers fan. I remember when Krieder came right from college into a playoff series against Ottawa in 2011, they go on to make the ECF and lose in heart breaking fashion to the Devil's.
He's the new age Mr. Ranger and while he definitely didn't live up to his contract this year injuries, a less effective PP, him not even being on said PP, and getting shifted up and down and all around the lineup can easily be to blame
Through the first 5 years of a 7 year deal at 6.5 cap hit he has 144 goals. How is that a bad contract? Who will Drury get who is a 30 goal scorer for 6.5 or less?

They accelerated their "rebuild" and are in a worse spot than Toronto. Why would you sign with the Leafs?
Colorado and Tampa Bay were two other teams that adopted the interchangeable cogs version of personnel management first championed by Vegas and it hasn't really worked for them.
Colorado were a disaster in nets last year and they mostly fixed that but they couldn't beat Dallas who couldn't compete with Edmonton who is being overwhelmed by Florida.
If the Rangers can get value for Kreider, Young value, that's a bonus cause Kreider despite the good season is past it.
Gibson had a very good season as a back-up. $6.4 million for a back-up is ridiculous. Dostal is an RFA. He started 49 games this year and 38 the year before and deserves to get paid more than back-up Gibson (44 GS .888 sp and 28 GS .911 sp) Sure Gibson is pretty good with cherrypicked back-up assignments. They were trying to showcase him so they could trade him. He hasn't been a good NHL starter in six years. He lead the league in goals given up two years ago. and losses two years ago four years ago and five years ago.
Boston did not have the best record in hockey. There were at least two Bruin teams that had a better record in the 70's.
because the fans in New York dont give up on there team and throw there jerseys on the ice after going down 3-2 in a 2nd round series ( furthest the leafs have gone in over 20 years)
Steve clearly woke up on the wrong side of the bed. People want to play and live in Manhattan. Not everyone gets robbed in New York like you Steve. New York will always attract free agents. Oh and I’d think quite a few American born hockey players would want to play for the AGM of Team USA and the Head Coach. You guys never talk about the Rangers and the one time you do it’s just 15 minutes of complete nonsensical hating. You’ve talked about every head coach that’s been hired except Mike Sullivan. Odd
For me, the biggest issue with the Rangers is that I have NO IDEA what their plan is at this point. It is super rare to see a good team have a season where basically every person on the roster has a down year simultaneously. Everyone sucked. Even guys who are in their prime and had sparkling reps like Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin were just totally mediocre. And all of that obviously had a compounding/snowball effect. But where do they go from that? Do you run it back and figure it can't possibly go that badly again? Do you do an overhaul? I have no clue. All I know is that I look at that roster and see a lot of guys on the wrong side of 30, and a lot of younger talents who have been said to have high upside but whose ability to reach that upside now seems very questionable (Lafreniere, Miller, etc.). Drury has a tough job this summer.

Chris Kreider – if he was going to a better team – would put up 30 goals next year. One down season – which every player in NY had – isn’t the end of his career. Going to the Ducks? No clue what he’ll end up producing.

Feel like the guys are evaluating the trade as if the Leafs made it and not the Ducks. Ducks have a ton of capspace, so the difference between CK 6.5M cap hit and his market value of 5M ish doesn’t matter.

I totally blame Drury for not making the playoffs this season! You remove two glue players and of course your team will fall apart. As I don't have a crystal ball, I don't know what this does for future cap health . The balls in the air have not landed yet K. Miller on the move Laf on the move Panarin contract up Mika sinking a healthy Krider would be amazing and with Ty Hennes coming on staff who kept Malkin and Crosby in shape and healthy with CK's training mentality I just feel it is short sighted

Drury is getting so much hate and saying he’s messing everything up. This is what I don’t understand. He saw the current rangers roster wasn’t good enough to win the Stanley Cup, in the end that’s what you play for. He had a trade lined up for Detroit, Trouba stopped it. What did you want him to do? How was he supposed to fix the team? Goodrow was overpaid (yes partly do to him) and he’s another who wouldn’t waive his clause. What did you want him to do? Kreider though he’s the longest tenured player has been to 5 ECF and has failed all 5 times. He along with Mika moped around after the Goodrow and Trouba debacles. The core that dictates the locker room played passionless hockey which cost them to be the worst fall in franchise history. So what do you want Drury to do? You don’t want to trade players, you don’t want to trade players that cost the franchise 3 consecutive coaches that all complained about the same thing. You don’t want to trade players who refuse to play the Way the coach wants them to play, what do you want Drury to do? Then you want to keep the same players together that hasn’t gotten it done and clearly doesn’t have what it takes again? Florida showed you how to win but you want to put a team that can’t forecheck, lazy defense, over reliance on the goalie, and still wants to play east west. You can’t win the Stanley cup that way. It doesn’t work. So what can Drury do except moves people don’t like. Come on man.

All I’m saying is the rangers at least been to the conference finals a couple of times and it was time to move on from Chris kreider yes he will be missed but drury has to take this team to a different direction now I gotta ask you this what makes Toronto a better attraction or team when they finally got to the second round after 20 seasons New York City still has attractions and players will still come play here 😂😂😂

Point is, Rangers looked at the locker room and said this team is not beating Tampa or Florida. Drury got rid of contracts without retaining a single dollar. We need to find guys that are the Bennetts and Verhages of the hockey league, guys that are x-factors.
