San Felipe Stakes 2025 (FULL RACE) | NBC Sports
Frank Mirahmadi has the call. >> There in the gate. And they’re off in the Dark Horse San Felipe Stakes. Journalism broke smoothly and so did Barnes. Barnes takes the lead. After just a few jumps. Rodriguez came away in third. Smooth cruising and Mellencamp is at the back of the field, so Barnes is the quickest and he makes his way over to the rail, opening up two lengths. Rodriguez moves into second long shot, smooth cruising, trying to be a part of it. Moves up on the outside of him, trying to keep a little bit of pressure on Barnes, who is doing it easily past the six furlong pole. Roberto Rispoli has journalism in fourth, three and a half lengths off the pace, and Mellencamp is just outside of him. The tempo is reasonable and it’s Barnes in charge has it by just under a length over Rodriguez heading to the half mile pole in the Dark Horse San Felipe Stakes. Smooth cruising at the rail journalism is three lengths off the lead. Trying to get a little bit closer. Now he’s just in front of Mellencamp into the far turn. It’s been all Barnes. He gets a little bit of a nudge and responds. Barnes starts to sprint for home stablemate Rodriguez, trying to make it interesting in second and journalism four off the pace in third. They’re followed by Smooth Cruising and Mellencamp. They’re a quarter of a mile from home and Barnes is widening. Journalism now swings into action on the outside. These are the two as they come to the eighth ball, Barnes in front by three. Journalism chasing with determination, getting closer with every stride. And here comes journalism. Right on by Barnes. And it will be journalism striding away powerfully to win the Dark Horse San Felipe Stakes. Barnes had to settle for second, Rodriguez a distant third. >> How much homework did you have to do on this one? Journalism. Taking the San Felipe over the top of Barnes. >> Well, Aaron, William Wellman told you they’re going to play the long game, which meant sit back early. Hope that Barnes can’t be effective going this distance. And you got to tip your hat. Journalism took it to him, ran by him. Took the worst of it around the final turn. He’s a serious horse. Yeah. 3 or 4 minutes later, the long game became the short game. Journalism ran him down, and Barnes actually had a really good trip. Yes, a quarter in 23.71 a half in 47.31 at Santa Anita on a relatively uncontested lead is about the best you can hope for Barnes in this spot. Journalism

now thats a derby horse!
Dude had to whip that horse most just need to show the whip and the horse goes.
Journalism is a very, very nice colt out of Curlin and, right now, is my favourite for the coming year. Barnes had an excellent trip but might be better as a miler. Journalism has a mile and a quarter in him, no problem. Both horses are royally bred and it would be nice to see them both do well this year, as rivals. Let's hope they both stay safe and healthy, and the racing world has something to be excited about.
Can't fill a stake race racing history
Barnes was overated,fact.🏇🤔
Barnes overated😮
Barnes is distance limited.
Baffert really doesnt win without his Go Juice.💉🤣
Barnes is a Derby Horse! Finishing 2nd today will improve his odds later on…! 47 and change will Not be running in the Derby!!! Bobs best didnt run!???
No pace to run at and still mowed him down. Definitely a hard trier.
This horse is definitely going to win the Kentucky Derby this year.
I don’t understand why people hate Bob this much. He has been the face of racing for years. Trying the grow the sport. Teach us every time he opens his mouth about the sport. Yes he got caught up with stuff ok he did his time move on. He got some great horse. He got beat today ok. Why all the hate.
I have not bet on Baffert horses for a longtime. Most of the time I skip a race if he has a horse running. BUT I SURE DID LOVE IT WHEN HIS 3.2 MILLION DOLLAR HORSE GOT BEAT!!😃
Wow journalism finished like a train 🚆
Journalism and Sovereignty both looked great.
How big is Journalism?
At this point in the year it's difficult to get overly excited about the prospects of any horse. Usually I downplay the effort of a horse in a 5 horse field except in this instance, the winner stayed off the pac and maneuvered his way into striking distance and ran on strongly for the win. We're just as likely to see Barnes explode next time and be un-catchable……Journalism appears to have loads of talent, but at this point is "one to watch", and not be caught up in in a daze over his 108 Beyer.
Good barnes lost. Now maybe baffert will keep him out of the derby which ruins horses. Too much too soon
Places owned by stronach small purses
Added distance should only benefit Journalism. Glad to have bet him at 52-1 in KDFW2.
Barnes got away with a soft pace and has no excuse.
Journalism/Coal Battle/All or Journalism/All/Coal Battle. The little horse will make his way through.
This must be stated about the STATE OF HORSE RACING:
The "game" is no longer considered a SPORT! Can't overstate that! They have little credibility in so many aspects! They've morphed into ONLY GAMBLING! With a sinister undertone, they can't be taken seriously as the SPORT OF KINGS
anymore. No GOVERNING BODY READY TO RESTORE THE SPORT! Just more GAMBLING menu items! In addition, there is the mysterious money bet during-mid-after the race? Heavy swings to the horse going to the front! … Etc. I'm sure the other sports have some elements, but it( gambling) does not CONTROL the sport …
Curlin could be one. Great stud
Journalism will be 2 or 3 in the Kentucky derby if had a good T maybe win but to many horses in the Kentucky derby you have to had a good T
Fantastic call by Frank !
5 ???

Strange name, good horse.
like he's father
Ran by Rodriguez like he was standing still
