Wonder what would have been the results if Toronto had signed Marchand at the end of the year to have in the playoffs. At 37 and Perry at 40 in last nights playoff game, they did not look out of place and are always around the net and maybe the mindset of how intense you have to play would have rubbed off on the team because it is a pretty tame,team who always look like they don’t want to get hurt. There are exceptions, Tanev, Tavares,Knies, Benoit. Do not keep Domi or Jarnkrok,McMann,Holmberg.
Get rid of the loser mentality flakes and bring in winners

Great players in their prime, Stanley Cup Winners but do you get the snarl and size that the two Cup finalists have in their line up right now. I think one or the other can contribute taking both might burn some spots to make the Leafs harder to play against. If Cowan is going to make the roster either could be a great mentor for him as a bonus.
Its so ironic and sad that we hear talk about picking up a Marchand or Bennett for 8 or 9 million. While the leafs gave away Kadri whos making 7m in Calgary.

"almost 5 million dollars to work with" thats just false… I made this mock on puck pedia and the number will be around 14mill cap space with what he has there, given that jarnkrok + kampf will be traded. And even if they arent traded, the number will still be around 10mill. Leafs can easily add in a top UFA to that mock roster.

oh good lets hire a couple of fossils. these fossils better be physical because come play off time ..if leafs reach there this coming season .. leafs will need to be physical or they be back to square one.
I get it there’s concern with age, but look at Marchand and Perry in the finals. If you get them cheap enough it’s not much risk, you just hope they are healthy in the playoffs. Pacioretty was one of our best playoff guys.

Hiring MORE 35+ year olds, regardless of how successful they were ten years ago, is extraordinarily short-sighted. It's a blatant sign of desperation, almost as if Treliving has been told he needs to win a cup in the next year or two or he's gone.
At a million a pop for one year, like Gio, Spezza, Thornton, etc., fine. Keep your bullets for 20026 UFA which is much stronger. But anything longer or more expensive is sheer silliness. Don't forget, if signing all the fossils fails over the next few years, Matthews is virtually guaranteed to flee after his contract expires on July 1, 2028. (which might be a good thing given his inability to stay healthy and be available when most needed.)

Kane would love to play with Matthews. His other chance at doing so was at the 4 Nations tournament but he wasn't picked, just like Tavares wasn't with Team Canada.

Man if we could sign both Toews and Kane that would be wild. Throw in a Marchand signing and a Rielly trade for Bowen Byram that includes Robertson in a sign and trade? Resign Knies and Tavares to a 4×6?

Been saying this for weeks now. Both them as 3rd or 4th line linemates. At league minimums, or at least cheaper than Kampf, is a steal and Leafs would be insane Not to try this.

Kane and Toews used to be great players, but they aren't anymore. Unlike Perry, Marchand and Pacioretty, Kane and Toews will not be able to shift to a physical power forward. As a Habs fan I hope the Leafs sign one of them or, even better, both of them.

Doesn’t matter what “secrets” the Leafs are working on – they still suck and they’ll always suck! I’m grateful to God Almighty every day that the Leafs are such garbage. You guys can talk all the bs you want, but the facts are 1) Kane will not play for a Canadian team; 2) Marchand will never play for the Leafs, and 3) Toews won’t go anywhere Kane won’t go. The Wings have a better chance of getting all three of those guys than TO has at getting one of them.
