Potential Late First-Round Targets As Sharks Aim for Hidden Gem | Is Nilson A Grier Type Player?

Will the San Jose Sharks strike gold in the upcoming NHL draft? Three intriguing prospects take center stage as JD Young and draft expert Will Scouch analyze their potential impact on the Sharks’ future.

Swedish forward Eric Nilson emerges as a tantalizing option, boasting exceptional skating and hockey IQ despite his lean frame. Can he develop into a Phillip Danault-type player for San Jose? The conversation shifts to Jack Murtagh, a versatile forward from the US National Team. While lacking a standout skill, Murtagh’s physical presence and adaptability make him an interesting complementary piece.

The wildcard of the bunch is Boston University defenseman Sascha Boumedienne. Described as a “mystery box,” Boumedienne’s fluid skating and offensive upside are tempered by defensive inconsistencies. Will his high-risk, high-reward potential justify a high pick?

Beyond individual prospects, JD and Will explore broader draft strategies, player evaluation techniques, and the crucial importance of Day Two selections. Gain insider knowledge on how NHL teams navigate the complex world of prospect development and roster building.

Tune in for expert analysis and bold predictions as the Sharks prepare to shape their future through the NHL draft.

  1. Nilson being a perimeter player makes it a meah for me. GMMG wants DAWGS and DAWGS go to the net. A player doesn't simply develop a DAWG mentality. Boumedienne sounds like he should be a forward. I'd consider him more as a 2nd+ rounder.

  2. Sharks aren't exactly deep on LHD. Dickinson and Mukh are legit NHL talents, but that's the list going forward. Doubt Mario, Vlasic, Thrun will stay around much longer. Cagnoni is next on the list and I know people are rooting for him, but its not an easy path at his size.

If you have 3 respectable/good LHD, then you need 3 complimentary RHD to make it work. DeMelo sorts. Also, wouldn't rule out left shot d-men on the right side.

Sharks sure would benefit if one of their big RHD pipeline sorts, ie Colton Roberts or Nate Misskey, turned into decent NHL players in a few years,

  3. Always great seeing Will on. I'd wager this was filmed after the mock draft featuring Sam McGilligan and poking some fun at the chat reaction of Sam picking Cameron Reid at 30

  4. Don't we already have a Scouch at home? Oh wait, that's a couch. Man, I can't wait to sit on that thing when I get home.

  5. Was a Phantoms STH and got to watch Boumedienne a lot and have been praying we nab him. The last two players I wanted us to draft from here were Kyle Connor and Scott Mayfield. Needless to say, I am prepared to be disappointed. Lol.
