Why the Avs HAD to resign Brock Nelson: John Mitchell full interview
Former Avalanche forward John Mitchell joined Tyler Polumbus, Scott Hastings, & Dmac to discuss the Avs resigning Brock Nelson to a 3 year deal. #Colorado #Avalanche #brocknelson #NHL #johnmitchell
every single center thats a ufa is 32ish to 35 lol so not like theres alot of choices , brock has missed like 30 games in 13 years hope he can keep that up and a new full year camp and pre season working with his line mates will be fruitful ,would of been nice it it was 6.5 mil but eh watever
not sure who reported on the necas stuff first but im calling bull sh it on it ether way , nothing but clickbait for fb articles ,think it was kyprios who said it first , trying to drum up sh it for his show
We should've known since Adrian Dater said Brock was gone-lol. But I'm happy with this especially only having to go 3 yrs not 4. But it goes beyond assets you gave up,& what Nelson directly provides. You are gonna have to make some other moves-I expect a Girard trade,& if Necas really isn't happy,& won't resign he might need to be traded. And ya might need to send some rebuilding team a mid to late pick to salary dump Wood,or trade Colton. Many decisions & work remain but off to good start firing Bennet,& resigning Nelson. I don't think Nelson is elite 2C but above average to very good,& has played in 2 ECF.Probably around 9th-12th ish best 2C in NHL.
If ya let Nelson walk-great chance he goes to Minnesota or maybe WPG-which leaves us with a gaping 2C hole again,& fills biggest weaknesses for 1 of our biggest rivals. Maybe he even goes to Dallas if Duchene leaves. And even if he hadn't gone to 1 of our rivals-probably means you'd have to force Coyle & Drury up to 2C & 3C-1 spot higher than they should be. They can fill in there at times but not good enough in playoffs in brutal Central,& I question if it'd even be good enough over 82 games. Coyle at 2C,& Drury at 3C are AVERAGE AT BEST-& thats probably even kind. But despite his struggles vs Dallas-Coyle at 3C,& Drury at 4C is PERFECT slotting.Nate is obviously elite 1C,& with Nelson back-I think him,Coyle,& Drury are all above average to good at their respective positions if slotted correctly.
Other than Edmonton-i don't think anybody else in West can claim to have 4 at least above average centers-obviously we have to see what moves teams make this summer. And 1 guy I don't feel sorry for is Ray Bennet. I'm glad Bednar is back but as I said after game 7-only if he agrees to fire Bennet. I'm not saying he didn't have success at times here or remotely all his fault. But too often during his tenure-PP was predictable, inflexible & perimeter in big moments,& with top 3-5 ish talent since he's been here-even with Mico gone. As clutch as Mico was-if our PP was just bad instead of atrocious we win in 6 or less. Raj on your stations AVS POSTGAME SHOWS-was brutally honest,& correctly ripped Bennet for-not having Nichuskin on PP1. That alone was a fireable offense.
By any measure dude is 1 of most dominant PP power forwards in NHL in last few yrs when not suspended or injured. And anything but perimeter & finesse-1 of your biggest issues that series. Especially after game 3-to only make cosmetic changes when PP almost singlehandedly cost you that game.0 for 6,& 3.5 minutes in OT. PP also played a pretty big role in 2 of your other 3 losses.(game 2 in OT,& game 7). I'm sure Mitchel knows,& loves Bennet personally,& again I'm not saying it's all his fault. Bednar should've demanded that beyond obvious adjustment be made. But as Raj said-thats Bennets job,& his stubbornness in this series,& in past playoffs-well overdue to give somebody else a shot,& get a fresh voice.
I think thatās hogwash. He probably said he didnāt like the salmon at a Denver restaurant and the media took it as āheās not happy with the Avsā absolutely bullcrap. Iām calling it now, that story is bullcrap
Next on Brock. Signing Brock for 3 years means we stop giving up draft picks, we stop trading away quality players like Bo Byram, which was all a Domino effect of Kadri leaving for Calgary.

Captain being back, this Goaltender Tandem, the Avs aren't chasing the Stars or Jets all SeasonšŖ
