Trading Tavares would be the best thing to do.

Why are we talking about winning a round??? That was a reasonable conversation 3/4 years ago. Now, its about a cup … we should slam everyone who sets their sights so low. I'm with all the guys proposing to trade Nylander – along with Muzzin and Mraczek. Consider Mikheyev, Campbell, Simmons, and Spezz gone. Make bridge deals for Liljegren and Sandin and let them loose – they will play above their contract value. If all we're trying to do is win a round – keep Nylander. But to win a cup, you won't have Nylander, Muzzin, Campbell or Mrazek on your roster. You also won't have whatever a late 1st rounder will get you. Honestly, Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Reilly are the only fixed assets, despite the fact that none of them stepped up like McDavid, Draisaitl, Kadri, McKinnon, Makar or any of the comparables. Is it not obvious to anyone who has watched Edmonton, Colorado, New York or TB that the Leafs are not in the same league as those teams and "NO" they're not a player away, nor can they cover the gap with a few tinkering deals? This team needs a lot of help that will only come with a more radical overhaul. I think Dubas did a great job last off-season with very little cap to work with. Lets give him some some room to get this team to the next level. This is a "win now" team that needs a lot of help to make that happen.
I'd make some drastic moves with the bottom 6 other than Kampf I don't like anyone they have..I'd try to move them and get bigger, younger and nastier on the bottom 6. Move Nylander with Matthews and put Mariner with Tavares. Then go get a top 6 UFA to play left wing (i.e., Evander Kane). I'd trade Robertson with Mrazek and a draft pick if needed to move that contract. I'd only give Campbell a 3yr deal at $4M if not then roll back with what you have and try to trade for some one else, there are no good goalie UFA's. Lots of D this year so sign a healthy big body and trade Muzzin if you can, he's one injury from being done..

I would like to see them trade Nylander to New Jersey for there 2nd pick in this year's draft.
Me thinks there are many ways to improve the team, sacking Mrazek is priority, put him on Robidas Island if need be. Holl is dead weight with the emergence of Sandin and Liljegren. Kerfoot has value. Nobody wants Campbell to leave town, he seems good enough to win in the playoffs but if he will take $4.25 for 3-years then it's good both ways. Giordano was a great move, Lyubushkin was a great move and re-signing Mikheyev is critical. The man has wheels. Engvall turned out to be okay but I won't be mopping my tears if he left town, I want this team to win no matter the cost. Simmonds=Robidas Island or asked to retire or traded or Marlies material. Matthews deserves the "C" and if Tavares can't find his game next year on line 2, then the Leafs' brass needs to find a solution…Trade and eat salary, or buyout I don't know but that cash he gets stipulates, by nature, his production and pace. He needs to find a way. Skating coach, more nannies for his kid or sports psychologist. I mean come on guys he is not that old! The Leafs need him now not to show up in Matthews' contract year! Muzzin- should be moved if possible, great player but the next hit could mean retirement, just saying that's $5 million plus in cold hard cash! Go Leafs!!! Great show Andrew! 🇨🇦

There is no chance of wining without a #1 goalie. Jack is probably cheap still at 5 million. It must be one of the top 3 who goes to be able to fill the holes. Marner is overpaid as a winger. If Mathews was not on his line would he really have as many points? No! Tavares needs a winger. You need to deal with a team with cap space who can eat more contracts if they want him and need offence.. New Jersey, Columbus. NJ add in Mrazek , Muzzin, lilligren, Toronto #1. We get Blackwell, 2nd overall, Dougie Hamilton. We use pick to get cheaper Marner replacement to play with JT. Nylander moves up with Mathews. Sign Jack, fill in the holes. This fixes our back end for years. If Nylander and Mathews do not extend their contracts next summer they will have to be traded. Same players to Columbus. We get Laine if he signs an extension(back end loaded after JT deal ends}, Chicago #6 pick and one of their young right defence. Laine plays with JT and gives us options should Matthews Nylander not extend. Draft for big D man or forward if D man is gone. Money left over for Jack a D man and depth forward.

I’m a pretty big supporter of nylander and always have been but if we could get a deal done like nylander and lili for miller and schenn id do it. Specially if adding mrazek on the deal was possible. Or a deal for Chychrun and crouse would be solid return

what about trading muzzin keeping Kerfoot as an option? If we can get the Calgary player then maybe trade Nylander not necessarily in same trade

I believe that NHL refs are against the Toronto Maple Leafs every time in the first round of the Stanley cup playoffs every year and it is time to change that narrative when it comes to the NHL refs.
If Tavares was a team player he would go to Dubas and request that his salary be cut back to 6 million a year and free some money upp to help the team also Marner should cut his salary back to 7 million a year to help the team out and Matthews is only worth 7 million a year
So with Mrazek are we gonna forget about the multiple groin injuries and the COVID-19 issue earlier in the year?
For me, the initial key is Campbell. Can they sign him or not? If so, they might be able to tinker around the edges, and keep Nylander. If not, then Nylander will be needed to get an elite goalie (Gibson). Holl, Mrazek, Case, and Mikhayev likely gone, but not so sure about Kerfoot or Engvall.. If they trade Muzzin and don't sign Lyubushkin, then the d core looks really soft. Simmonds has to go to the pressbox or AHL. Gets complicated. Good video. Your stuff is worth the time, so don't worry about going over 12 minutes.

Andrew, Kerfoot does have negative value to certain teams. Columbus would be one of them. Considering the number of players the Jackets currently have that already play those roles, you can’t say he does not have negative value.

Who gives a flyin' F what the Laffs do. Watching the Bolts/Rangers game last night makes us realize even more how far away this joke of a team is from winning. How in any universe can this team win "4 rounds" of grit, give 100% blood/sweat/tears consistently. They will get worn down before the first round is done, lol. Dumbass has "NO WAY" of bringing this group of under-achievers out from more than a half century of failure. They last won before the original Woodstock concert, lol. Haven't even been to the final even once since, smh.

Dubas needs to visit the Hockey Hall of Fame and read the names on the Stanley Cup. He won't recognize most of them cuz they're not superstars, just hard working gritty players who get the job done. Dump a couple of your big names for 3 or 4 of these types and you might win a few playoff rounds

Get Tom Wilson. I don’t care how they do it. Muzzin stays, cause we need playoff players. I’d include Sandin, the first round pick, Robertson and then some me. Gibson is a good option. A playoff goalie should be able to control rebounds, and not let in team moral killing goals. I hope libushkin comes back. I think Holl is done.

Theres alot to question here. Almost dont know where to start.
First Im going to go with Holl.- Liljgren. You did say *right now hes the better defenceman so I wont go to hard there. But he look at his past. He has NOT shown me enough to go out and pay him 2M and replace Holl with him when theyre trying to win a cup. He played well with Gio and thats about it. so god forbid Gio gets hurt , is Lilj gunna go back to his old ways? Shooting into shin pads and not making the plays that made him effective in the AHL?Looking at Holl atleast hes really effective at one thing. PK. Liljgren is decent. For 2M im keeping Holl all day long. if Liljgren has a really good camp and signs around 1.25 then maybe you can talk. They made their decision Dermott or Holl.
Robertson- Im so tired of people saying 'Throw him onto the top 2 lines." and get him replacing guys making 3-7M. The guy hasnt even been able to crack this roster yet let alone play him with Matthews and Marner or Tavares. Its the same thing for years so many people were hyping Liljgren up as the potetial next Reilly almost. People need to temper their expectations with these prospects the leafs have. Theres a reason Aburezze went in instead of Robertson. There was also another guy they were talking about signing to ELC and bringing in as well.
The leafs need a different dynamic. they need to change tyhe makeup of this team. taking out a small forward , and replacing him with an even smaller forward isnt what the leafs need to fo furhter. to me Nick Robertson is the Leafs #1 Trade Chip. Likely to be moved in a big deal.
Muzzin- NOT getting traded Why on EARTH would they trade him. People seem to forget the guy had TWO concussions. Almost back to back almost , and theyre ostrasizing the guy for not coming back super soon and being the vintage Jake Muzzin right away. Again its the fan base having short memories and completely removing common sense. Just because these guys return doesnt mean theyre 100% healthy. Those injuries take MONTHS to recover from. expecially two in the span he had. He will be much better next season. WHY move him at his lowest value after being hurt theres much better moves to be made.-DUMB MOVE.
Mrazek- This depends on what happens with Campbell. If they sign Campbell to a 5M-5year deal. Then I look Mrazek to be moved at the draft. Whats most likely to happen is the leafs finding another guy who maybe hasnt fit in with another team similar to Mrazek and choosing that route rather then paying the FULL amount to move Mrazek alone. They will have to add but taking back maybe a guy who has fit in a little better then Mrazek. Heres what I think will happen. Potential Moves In the area i see happening.

Simply because of the years remaining. Dallas has zero goalies signed. If Klingberg tests the market it may open up a bit of space to tinker with the goalie situation. Dallas may want to choose to take the chance and hope Mrazek continues his injury woes and go for the insured IR payments off the cap rather then just pay a goalie to play in the minors.
