Can the Philadelphia Flyers make a trade with the Sharks to pick at 2nd overall in the NHL Draft?

On today’s show, Russ & Rachel review Denver Barkey & Oliver Bonk’s Memorial Cup run with the London Knights of the OHL. We then welcome JD Young of Locked on Sharks to discuss the options, what it would take and how realistic the possibility is to make a deal with San Jose to move up in the draft. We also compare Michael Misa to Porter Martone as possible 2nd overall picks, and would we give up Oliver Bonk to make a deal to get either one of those prospects? We get into the options, and our mutual dislike for the Boston Bruins.

  1. I don’t think moving up from #6 is the proper play. I’ll somewhat parrot what Rachel said — to me, Misa is a bit better than Hagens, Hagens a bit better than Desnoyers, and Desnoyers a bit better than Frondell — but the slight difference dictates you let the board play out. IMO, the smarter play is packaging #22, 40, and 45 to move up to #9 for Jackson Smith or Mrtka.

  2. lol you clicked like to all but mine on the twitter/ X statement about Buffalo haha.
Still a lil sore about the pro Torts stuff on here with me eh Russel?
    Acting your height.

  3. Misa will score more points, is a potential center, is a better 200 foot player and a better skater, but because Martone is bigger than Misa, he is better? And you still have Hagens as number 1? Wow! I just don't see it Russ, and I don't think you explained yourself very well in this segment. I would really like to understand what Hagens has that is so much better than Misa, Desnoyers, O'Brien, and the rest of the centers in the draft.

  4. Sharks fan here. Listening to this podcast shows how desperate Flyers are to move up. Trying to convince Sharks that Martone is better than Misa will not work. 62 goals in 65 games. Better luck next year on the McKenna draft.

  5. Islanders will likely trade down to 2 as Sharks really want/need Schaeffer and Isles need scoring. They’ll wind up with Misa plus a pkg.

  6. Nobody will be able to compete with San Jose in 5 years so what does it matter. Let`s put all the good talent on at 10:30 at night

  7. They are going to get someone good at 6. Don't mortgage the farm to only gain marginal improvement. Center has to be a #1 priority, especially with size. Hagens & Misa are under 6 ft so Frondell or Desnoyers would intrigue me more. Martone & Martin would too if they went 'plan B' for a big scoring winger instead. I'm passing on McQueen, that serious back injury is too much of a risk. Now if they could package a couple of later picks to move up in the low-teens maybe they could grab a sleeper.

  8. Heres the realism of this draft: San Jose is not trading their pick. Neither Misa or Martone will be available at 6. So, why are you even discussing it? Why not talk about people that will be available at 6?

  9. As a Sharks fan if Philly gave up Bonk and the 6th , 22nd pick year it would be intriguing. Grab Mrtka at 6th with Bonk could solve our RD issues going forward. Just a thought.

  10. give up Zamula the Jet #6? for Misa? #1 talk to isles for Lee and/or compete for a lotto ball with em… next year's better

  11. Silly question, Torts was not impressed with Bobk, Bonk is slow, 3 yrs after he was drafted, Bonk still is nowhere near nhl ready, I'd trade Bonk for a 2 rd pick
