Marshand And how about will Don Sweeney be around to even see his seventh overall pick make his NHL debut All that more right here on uh YouTube and the podcast platforms to Inside the Rank And here we are with the 30th head coach of the Boston Bruins A familiar face a familiar name Uh not their first rodeo when it comes to familiar names Marco Sturm Yeah I it’s fine It’s fine That’s how I feel about it It’s fine Yeah Yeah I mean he’s he’s a former Bruin so that checks boxes for Sweeney and Neilie I feel like for whatever reason Knows the culture knows the city knows the team whatever the [ __ ] they want to say Um so you know good for them But for me I like the fact that he’s coming from a different organization He was brought up as a coach in the Kings organization The Kings um have been successful the their minor league team has been successful under Sterm Uh so that part of it I like um that he has maybe an outsiders point of view with a little familiarity with the with the team Um so that part of it I I do like I don’t love that his power play was 24th in the AHL last year um you know coming to a team that couldn’t really figure out the power play uh even though they have some good players or seemingly good players right um to play on it Um but I think they maybe want to get back to their defensive roots and the Kings system uh and the Kings as a whole uh that organization really prides itself on playing well defensively So you know hopefully this is a step in the right direction cuz we’ve said all along if they want to win games especially with the roster as it’s currently constituted and I don’t think it’s going to get much better than what they currently have because I don’t think free agents are going to want to come here I think you have to play a defensive style So if he can bring in uh or fine-tune or get them back to the way that they used to play defense when they were actually good at it um you know I think this is a step in the right direction So um you know I I think it’s a good hire overall He’s earned the opportunity and you know we’ll see from here Yeah You know I I haven’t feel the same way I mean look they’re not going to get this high-end coach cuz they just don’t pay the money to do it First of all uh what the couple of things that bother me about it is you know Don Sweeney in that snarky remark in the press conference about how they’re historical franchise original six and of course anybody who want to co coach you know co come there or coach for them [ __ ] Like first of all the there’s no there were several guys who probably didn’t want this job And recent history shows that good coaches get fired I mean Bruce Cassidy goes on and next year wins the cup Jim Montgomery that you know the next time he gets a head coaching job with St Louis he takes that team to the playoffs So good coaches are getting fired um in this in this situation and they’re not getting paid a ton So that lessens the pool down to you know very little these types of it’s a stepping stone job right now Yeah it is The other thing the other thing is they don’t get to pick their assistants No they don’t Essence has been there for 22 years through this will be his seventh different head coach Yeah Seven Seven They have to keep the guy I mean he’s a good coach and the Bruins have developed goalies Um but Joe Sacko was there for 14 years through a bunch of different guys Why can the head coach that comes in not bring his own goddamn staff It’s a joke It’s run by the general manager So until he takes his thumb off the goddamn head coach then it’s going to be the same old [ __ ] It is It is And you know Jay Leech and Bob Asenz are going to be there I mean at the very least at the very least and that’s you know again this is the type of guy you’re going to get Now Sturm has done a pretty good job in the NHL You know part of the 24th in power play is the year before they were like second and Alex Turkot had a terrific power play year for them and then when he was moved up with promotion then the power play suffered after that So I’m going to give him a little bit of leeway there But this like you said is going to be a defensive a defensive reorganization like they’re going to get back to their roots of the goalending to the defense and then the offense is opportunistic This is what they’re going to do I you know what they only have a roster to do this You’re right You’re right And I and I hope you’re right about getting back to the to the nuts and bolts of the defense My problem with that is they’re keeping an assistant coach in Jay Leech who had maybe the worst defensive [ __ ] Bruins team since I’ve been alive and he was the defensive coach and they’re keeping him So that doesn’t speak well uh for for how they are going to handle things defensively cuz that guy sucks as a coach to lose him to Seattle Well I’m not I want him to go back to Seattle See you later buddy Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out Well let’s coach the defense Well here’s another thing that I saw on X today and again it’s the it’s the it’s those you know podcasts and media guys who want to kiss the ass of the Bruins you know saying that well Marco Sturm really deserved this job And it wasn’t because he was just you know a former player and everything Look they in the last 40 years they’ve had 17 coaches Eight of them used to play for them Two more of them lived in Needam and Medford Like so come on It’s It’s a factor okay It’s a It’s probably Look I’m not saying Marco Sturm isn’t a good candidate for the job I’m not saying he hasn’t done a good job and built up a resume and coaching and and deserves a shot I’m not saying any of that But don’t act like you know that that this is uh you know they picked Marco Sturm out of the 15 interviews they did and that this is the guy Well what happened to Mr Donskov Did anybody say anything He was like rumored to be the top front runner and then his name disappeared Did you hear anything about that No And you know why Nothing And it’s probably because he was like “Nah no thanks No thanks.” The reasons that you said earlier you know coaches just get fired here whether they have a good season or not Um and and it’s a stepping stone job They don’t pay that much So there’s a a a whole bunch of reasons why he probably was just like “Look I have a better situation here in Dallas.” Yeah Maybe I can get the next job Maybe well maybe if they get rid of Dbor maybe it’s him Maybe he’s leading Dallas with a much better roster than this Bruins team Sure Maybe he saw the writing on the wall and was like “Hey if Peter Dbor is out then maybe it’s me.” I I and I think that that might have been true I mean I to not hear anything about him again was just it was just weird to me Like you never even heard honestly I wonder if they even interviewed the guy I don’t think they did I really don’t think they did I don’t think so They might have been a phone call or something They might have his interest and then not come to and then he was like no I don’t think so No I don’t think so So that’s then it comes down to basically love Mitch Love and Sturm and Mitch Love again he built that defense in Washington He had players develop this year on the defensive blue line and did a really good job So that’s really what they were targeting is get ready for defensive win two to one you know hope to God Swayman’s back to form and then Lynholm and Macka Boy are healthy and then figure out a right shot D in in the second pair and play defensive hockey And now what I what I’d like to see is or what I’m curious to see is what how offensively do they play Like they I don’t think they’re going to go north and south in a hurry I don’t think they’re going to do that thing So I don’t I would like to see what kind of offensive game plan they have And if they bring in an assistant that has any type of offensive acumen I would love to see somebody brought in with offensive acumen I would like I mean Storm was a pretty good offensive player Sure So you know hopefully he has some ideas about how they should play offense Um and what style my thing is is the style of play and and how how they tailor the roster to that Like the the whole identity thing you know they want to get back to being uh a defense and goalending first team and they I think they have some personnel to do that Um but then how how do your forwards play like what kind of game do your forwards play Is it a trap Are we doing that thing because we’re playing defensive minded or are we going to be aggressive you know in on the for check and trying to cause turnovers and um and win pucks and so forth It it’ll be interesting to see the style um of their game offensively Um are we going to come back to the dots to get the puck or we going to wait to the blue line to get hammered when the puck comes up the sideboards you know there’s there’s lots of things that I’d like to see like how are they going to break the puck out You know are they going to be um you know more aggressive Are they going to stretch like they’ve been doing now without much success Like I don’t think Yeah I I hate it Um but it’ll be interesting to see how they play Um and and you know hopefully um there’s some new ideas and some new philosophies in there that can um you know get some of these guys going uh to having better years and and maybe you know another thing they’ve said is Sturm is really good with young players and developing young players They need somebody in that [ __ ] organization to be good at it So if he’s the guy then he’s the guy great if he can develop Matt Potra and and get something better out of Mason Lorai and you know maybe some of these other u young players you know Lysel and so forth um that’ll be interesting to see too um in training camp whether or not um you know some of those guys kind of pop a little bit Yeah I mean Joe Haggardy said it was a good hire because he’s a great guy Great guy for love him and the player and the former pro and the players love him I mean those are two fantastic reasons to pick a a hockey coach Yeah He’s a great guy and a and a former player If that was if if if that’s the reason that you’re picking a guy you’re in deep [ __ ] because the Patriots picked Gerard Mayo for that those reasons He was a great guy and he was a former player He was an allp pro player or whatever pro bowl player for the Patriots and he did not know the first [ __ ] thing about coaching a football team No idea He didn’t No idea None Which is why they never gave him a defensive coordinator position or gave him a title like that And then all of a sudden Bob Crab he kissed Bob Crab’s ass and he gets the job And that was the worst decision they ever made in it Now I’m not saying that this you know Stern might be pretty good at it but that doesn’t even guarantee he keeps the job for two or three years because he could get fired anyway if he’s pretty good at it So you know right now they had 17 coaches in 40 years That’s about almost an average of you know one every two years Yeah You know what I mean Like it’s it’s uh I I don’t know But here here’s what the real issue is is the roster And and and Marco Sturm can be uh you know Art Ross Yeah Yeah you can be Scotty Bowman It doesn’t make a difference It doesn’t make a damn bit of difference because their roster just isn’t good enough and it has so many holes in it Yeah Uh that it’s just it’s just not good enough right now Uh the other thing is the culture of the team Like we’ve talked about this before and I’m going to say it again in a different way and hopefully people understand like Don Sweeney did pretty well with the former core and put some added some pieces to it to make a run in 19 and then have the best team regular season team in the world in 23 But a new core you almost have to grade him in two parts Like Patrice Berseron era and then post Ferson error And post Berseron era he’s just not that great at it But the previous era all the people want to show you about the regular season record and all this other stuff Fine He was pretty good at that But can he do from 24 on Can he do that thing And I’m just not sure he can No he can’t You know it’s not that he’s been a bad general manager Is is that right now I don’t think he understands how to put a new core together and how to put the pieces together and what the identity of the team is No he doesn’t know any of that He doesn’t know any of that No So that’s that’s that’s my gripe with Sweeney is that and it should be and it’s a fair gripe It’s a fair gripe And I have the same [ __ ] gripe because I think he sucks at it And he should have been fired [ __ ] two years ago Yeah Because he sucks at it Yeah He can’t do it He can’t take him to this level Like he was okay with what they needed at the time He did fairly well with that thing because he has no balls Yeah Yeah You can he can put the p he can add some extra pieces around the edges cuz that’s what he does He wins hockey trades on extra pieces around the edges That’s great That’s all well and good but he doesn’t have the balls to make a Matthew Tachchuck Jonathan Hubo Mcken trade He doesn’t have the balls to make that kind of a trade So how are you going to reshape the core of the team if all you’re doing is working around the edges That’s why he signs fourth line guys first right That’s why he signed Mark Castelick in [ __ ] November at Thanksgiving or Christmas Have a happy [ __ ] Thanksgiving Mark Here’s a three-year contract guaranteed It was like December 3rd and then he got concussed like a week later You know what are we doing Yeah And then he had the Castle had the worst second half probably any Bruin on the [ __ ] team Show up fell Walk him up though after he got got his extension Like he can’t do the big moves He can’t do the big left He can’t do the heavy lifting He does the ancillary [ __ ] around the edges where he signs [ __ ] Riley Tuy our best friend in the whole wide world Riley love you Riley Love you Rile And and you know and the um I’m I’m losing my train of thought of Max Jones you know whatever He does He adds all that and like it’s like great but we actually need talent We don’t need fringe guys to fill out the roster We need talent and he can’t the talent piece He can’t do it I would like to look back at the last say 10 Stanley Cup finalists and see if they still have the same fourth line at the end in the postseason than they did at the beginning of the year And I guarantee you there’s guys in there on just about every team that they added at some point to change up that fourth line to get a playoff fourth line on there So I’ve been saying that for forever forever Is that you can get a fourthline veteran guy at any time at any time So don’t lock him up in you know August or give him three-year deals in December You don’t have to do that thing I’ll go I’ll even go out on a limb right now Okay I’ll go out on a limb and I’ll say this You can probably get third line guys anytime you want Yep Anytime Yeah that too Pretty much anytime you want a third line guy like maybe not a Stanley Cup you know winner They got Charlie Cole I mean guys can get third line guy They can get I’m I’m pretty sure you can get third never mind fourth line guys I think you can get third line guys anytime you want I think Connor wants to chime in here Don’t forget right around June 1st another one of these Boston outlets reported that the Bruins are front runners for Maxim Quamtois So oh there you go We’re signing them not only in August but apparently maybe in June Well I I think kumquats are like ripe at this time of year right Is that what it is Is that that right now I lost my mind when I saw that report I lost I am like what in the actual [ __ ] are we doing right now I still haven’t heard another team connected to Max CompTis I am not and I haven’t heard anybody else report it So maybe it was you know maybe it was uh maybe Donnie heard us and was like “Yeah I probably shouldn’t do that right now.” Yeah maybe Could be He doesn’t want me there Tuesday you know No he doesn’t want you there Tuesday because um you might ask questions that actually um get to the bottom of some things I might say Donnie uh what characteristics are you looking for in a coach and what characteristics are different from Bruce Cassidy and Joe Montgomery who are playoff you know playoff uh coaches What characteristics are you looking for in a player What style of what style of player do you want to have Right What do you feel that your team has done with player development over the last 10 years I feel like Don I feel like Sweeney doesn’t really have any you know real creativity in how in how he wants to do things So he copycats like he copied he tried to copy Florida with this heavy thing and that failed miserably and now I think he’s trying to copy the LA Kings with their defensive structure so they take away their AHL coach like so I I I feel like he chases like what other teams do it does you know all the time and I think they don’t have like what are the Bruins like the heaviness thing in Carolina they were talking about Carolina wants to get bigger and heavier look it’s not about big and heavy It’s about identifying the guys who want to play that grinding style And Florida Panthers have mastered it And they’re not 64 230 lbs but they are all [ __ ] They’re all grinders I tell you what competitive They buy in They buy in It’s a buyin factor Yeah That they have and and the good teams have that the Bruins haven’t had lately No No they haven’t Buyin You watch guys like um Nyqu is it Nyquist who was with the with the Bruins Gustlav Nyquist No no it was um when was this who is who’s the with Florida now Um oh Bquist sorry but he’s like he’s hitting now He is Yeah Well he’s like they buy in like Maurice gives them a message and they follow the plan They buy in like I don’t think Montgomery wanted to coach a heavy team So that was and that wasn’t a message or that wasn’t part of their defensive structure The Bruins don’t want players to cross the line Like they neutered Garnet Hathaway Uh I thought they brought him to play a certain style and they wouldn’t let him play the style They neuted Brad Marshand Yeah it’s Frederick I think too to a certain degree Like I they they bring guys in and guys are successful playing a certain way and then they’re like “Well no you can’t do that because that’s not really how the Bruins do things right?” Well the Bruins are doing things that that aren’t working right now No they are Can we Can we do some things now that work instead I’m not sure what you have to cross the line occasionally you cross the line If you have to be an [ __ ] occasionally be an [ __ ] Like you have to get guys away from the front of your net You have to be kind of an [ __ ] there Like I was watching Aaron Ekalad and he’s no great shakes by any stretch of the imagination And tell you what some guy random guy on Twitter had him on the Bruins for seven million bucks a year next year as as the right shot But anyway he was in the game in game one against Edmonton He was in the uh the left wing corner and there was a puck battle or whatever and he was fighting and he was behind the guy and the Oilers player was like against the boards and he basically just took his gloves and just shoved the guy’s head down He just kept pushing his head down He loves to hit guys with the back of his head with his head down until the guy ended up on the ice And it’s not a penalty cuz you just play in the corner for the for the pucken playoff He didn’t cross check him He didn’t punch him He just hook his head and shoved it down until the guy was laying on the ice Right And then came out with a puck Give me a defenseman who does that That’s what I’m saying is like you have to be a little bit of an [ __ ] and it’s fine Like it’s professional sports Yeah We’re not We don’t have to be best friends The Bruins have lost to [ __ ] all all the time Many many years have [ __ ] Be the [ __ ] They were the big Bruins for a reason Like be the [ __ ] Be the [ __ ] again Yeah Can Can we start that trending on Twitter Be the [ __ ] Be be the [ __ ] How do we do uh make the [ __ ] great again I don’t know It’s a different manga I don’t know Make the [ __ ] great again I don’t know Um great again Great So any So anyway Sterm’s Sterm’s the new coach I have no idea what he’s going to bring in for another assistant I would hope that he could get at least one assistant to come in that is his guy like something different than what they have now You know I I you know Jay Leech is going to be there You know Joe Sacko had the ability to be they were going to keep Joe Sacko They told him he could stay Yeah Well they hired a coach Yeah This is what I’m saying Why would they hired a coach This is what I’m saying It’s like you you’re just you’re just asking the coach to to fail You’re just asking them to fail Let them pick their own staff Yeah What’s the harm in letting them pick their own staff If you’re going to fire the guy what is because it’s more guys to fire You don’t want to pay you know three guys that you fire instead of just one Like come on Yeah They were going to let they were going to let Joe Sacko stay and I just 11 years It would be his 12th year It would have been his seventh I think it was his seventh head coach or something I don’t know No that was uh that was um what’s his name Goalie Bob Oh goalie Bob This will be this is his seventh coach Seventh coach Yep Yeah Um all right Seventh trip sponsored by Lobster lobs brewing.com Follow them at Lops Brewing for new beers and events on the social media Number one David Pagnana of the fourth period says Edmonton called about Jeremy Swayman during the season after the extension Should the Bruins have dealt him and what do you think the offer was Oh Um they’re probably it See I have a problem with this kind of stuff because it’s like selling low because you know Edmonson’s like “Oh we maybe we can get a good goalie on the cheap kind of a thing.” Um so I don’t know what the offer would have been Um I like I think producer Connor at one point said uh n Yeah Ryan N And I think that’s probably too much Like I don’t think they would have offered him Jeff Skinner says Bruins 1970 Yeah I probably would have Stewart Skinner Stewart Skinner the goalie right Stewart Skinner Flipping goalies Flipping goalies Maybe it was the Skinner brothers Skinner Skinner Where is Jeff Skinner I don’t know Uh I don’t know But he was he was with them at one point Skinner playing in Edmonton on the line Wasn’t there a movie called Skinner I don’t know who Jeff Skinner Uh he Jeff Skinner might be playing I don’t know Connor can look that up Yeah he’s playing with the Edmonton Oilers right Oh yes All right Yeah So maybe it was maybe it was it was Skinner squared It was the Skinner brothers for brothers I don’t know if I do that Um I don’t know I you know I probably I look I probably wouldn’t have done it Um I don’t think so But I’ll tell you what I’ve uh you know Auter is kind of pissed about how things ended in in you know the season the way the season ended in Dallas there with Dbor kind of throwing him under the bus Yeah Um you know to the media after the game when he got pulled and how he’s had a bad record against Edmonton and so forth Um Odder for Swayman I would seriously consider I would I would consider that Sure I would seriously consider that Bruno’s 1970 says that Skinner is Heyman’s replacement You know how hard it is to replace a highman I mean that’s usually usually when it breaks impossible isn’t it Yeah Usually when it breaks it’s it’s done It’s like a balloon Can’t really patch it back together you know Got to piece it back together Yeah It just doesn’t work that way No Um but I’ll tell you we were we I I I wouldn’t be gushing over over the Swayman Swayman uh Swayman for Skinner Squared I don’t think so Even Nan Hopkins like I don’t look I the the hard part about the Swayman thing is is that you you need him to be your number one goal You need him to be good If you trade him then you’re [ __ ] screwed in goalender But if you trade him low you’re screwed because you’re getting you know half the return Like but if you keep him you’re at the mercy of him So they’re in a tough spot with him Yeah they sure are They need they need him to rebound and and hopefully you know the his play in the World Championships um you know helped that to get started helped him his confidence to get rebuilt a little bit And you know hopefully he’s back to um you know the sway that everybody um knows and loves I guess he has to I think Marco Sturm like he he players love him Yeah I think Marco Sturm’s first order of business has to be a sit down with Jeremy Swayman and say “How do we and Bubba Senzer and say how do we get this right?” Yeah I guess so I mean I don’t know Stop the puck That’s how we get it right Yeah My first order of business is talking to David Poshark and saying “Yeah what do you need us to do What can we do to surround you with some talent How how do we get you to 50 goals with nobody on we don’t want a situation where David Pos in a year or two after the team’s been bad is saying I want to go somewhere else and win.” Like it it really could happen It really could That’s why to me that’s the first conversation you have you you you sit down with David Pos and you say what do you need What can we do for you to you know to put a team around you that you’re you know happy and happy with kind of a thing Well look I he he hasn’t won a cup and I think after this year you realize that he really played his ass off and he wants to win and I think it’s going to come to that point and people say “Nah no no I’m telling you and if it’s a cup if they miss the playoffs again next year and then the following year there isn’t doesn’t seem to be much better he he might go into the office and be like “What are we doing?” like years you’re gonna be looking probably at a Marian type situation where he’s like but earlier in his career I know Marian was is older now but you know no one thought he’d leave you know no one thought he’d he’d leave he was the captain of the DM team no one thought he would leave and he went somewhere else and appears to be having a blast there now sure yeah and I think that and 1970 makes a good point Let’s see Sway with a real deco in front of him and it was look that decor was not good It was not after the injuries So they do come back with Lynholm you hopefully a half with Lynholm who’s healthy Charlie Mackoy healthy and then you’ve got to get you need a right you need a right shot D right D that four if if if MNER is is your first priority in the offseason and it doesn’t sound like he is even though he should be for them um the Bruins are not mentioned at all in with in any conversations I’ve heard surrounding Mitch Mner So at all I guess we he’s not on they’re he listed 15 teams and they’re not he’s not on the radar He’s not on their radar They’re not on his radar Whatever So your number one priority now needs to be right defense Top four right D That needs to be that’s your top priority Especially if you’re going to be a defensive team It’s not Andrew that’s not Andrew Peak’s role That shouldn’t be his role No no no So you’re looking at like you know maybe it is an Aaron Akblad maybe it’s a Dante Fabro maybe it’s I I said Neil Pian but I think Pian I think he’s trying to sign back with Winnipeg Yeah Yeah I like those guys to me would be um decent additions You know Elad brings a little bit of nastiness He’s a little older but you know he has the um good experience Um he he’s he’s kind of big like Kylo can skate pretty well He was a high pick Um but he’s he’s he’s got the nasty that Kylo doesn’t really that didn’t have They need some nasty on the blue line So um you know am I paying 7 million bucks for him though No I’m not No not even close No No Uh a good point from Emrach I think we’re going to make a lot of moves before camp starts I’m not as down as others on the bees of what they can do They have cap space but here’s the problem You know a lot of the free agents I’m hearing are either staying with their own club or the Bruins aren’t really in on them yet Like free agency is not the way to go Trades are hard because you don’t have a ton of assets that you can trade to make like a good hockey trade unless you know maybe potra but what does he really give you Like maybe low but what does he really get you like that So what Connor Green producer Connor has said from the start and it might be a good point is to take a guy or two that the team just kind of just wants to dump the salary maybe not have to return as much and get a guy who’s pretty good that the team just wants to get rid of the contract And Dallas and we’ll talk about this in a couple of chirps here has a couple of guys like that like Dallas is trying to Colorado might be trying to shred some pay you know there’s some teams out there who just want to kind of shred some some payroll Um I think Colorado now has like a million bucks available or something like not a lot Yeah just over a million So it’s it there’s teams out there and that might be the way to go is to take on a contract that might not be great but the players still pretty good And if you want to be a playoff team this year which they do and it might may not be the best for their long-term health but if you want to make the playoffs next year maybe it’s a guy maybe it’s those types of guys Yeah And those types of trades you try to get Could be Trip two Should Bruins fans root for Brad Marshand 100% Yeah I am Yeah I’m rooting for Marian Yeah I mean as much as nice as I guess it would be to see McDavid and Dryside will win the cup Um I I I want him to get another one I do So I mean I tell you you get a second one with especially a second one with a second team Yeah That first of all he goes into the Hall of Fame no question even though he probably is already but he gives no question I think if he does and it’s two teams two cups 14 years apart Yeah Is pretty imp and he’s still a top player on the team post This is his fourth finals appearance Fourth finals appearance I think that’s all the package he needs to get in No questions asked Yeah So I I am I am rooting for him It’s it’s uh I you know it’s I have mixed feelings because I I really can’t stand Florida overall But um I kind of respect them more now than I used to because what they’ve done is pretty pretty here’s the thing I think that we all have underestimated like we always there’s always this sort of like yeah they’re the Panthers and they’re [ __ ] and this and that and they’re pretty good but I don’t think that you know as far as like all time teams or teams in the last 25 years I don’t think people are giving them enough credit that they’re making this kind of this is almost like dynasty level if they win this cup like Jesus like three straight finals backtoback cups like this puts them with the Chicago and the you know and that’s and they and that’s pretty impressive Like I don’t think realize just how impressive Yeah they are It’s very very impressive And they’ve they’ve turned over some guys like So but I’ll tell you what the identity of the players is what they’ve mastered with Bill Pedo and those guys And I’ll tell you it started with a Jonathan Hubido didn’t fit the profile He had 115 points and they traded him for a guy they thought would fit the profile in Kachchuck And here you go Like that’s the hockey trade That’s identifying this is how we want to play This is the guy who’s going to be the catalyst And they trade a 115 point getter Yeah For a guy and a good defenseman and we get they get Kachchuck because that starts the this is the culture This is the type of player we want Yeah Absolutely 100% Other teams do it all the time I I’ve I’ve said it before with Tampa Bay They did it with Brandon Hegel They identified the guy They spent a ton to get him but they identified him and he’s fit in perfectly there They’ve signed him to an extension Like he’s happy there They’re happy with him You know teams do that Not the Bruins but other teams do Well the Bruins did it with Char And they said they brought in Char They said “This is the guy This is the culture guy This is the big get.” and they had a you know really good goalender and they this is what we’re going to do This is the type of team we’re going to be but that was a pass regime Like that was identifying a guy in a pass regime Now I don’t know if this management team can do that Can they identify how they want to play what they want to be I just don’t think they do they can do that or they know how to do that I don’t So unless they do it I’m going to still think it Yeah I don’t I don’t know I mean you have to look at this as a broad lens It’s not just yeah Sweeny’s you know they’ve been the best team you know regular season wise since since Sweeney took the job Okay great But it doesn’t tell the whole story by a long shot It doesn’t And and and the regular season like can we not do that here Can that not be who we are as was 43 points behind you when they made they beat you Like I don’t I don’t want that to be Boston’s that’s not Boston sports fans That’s not who we are That’s not how we behave the most games in first place Like shut the [ __ ] up Shut the [ __ ] up Sorry John But I mean for real Like that’s not that’s not how we judge teams in Boston And anybody who’s doing that is just an ass kiss for the Bruins Plain and simple Like that’s not how we judge things here We judge things here based on winning in championships So you know regular season doesn’t mean jack [ __ ] The Patriots went 17 and0 in the regular season and didn’t win Yeah Uh so you know and then they hung a banner and then the [ __ ] fan base guilted him into [ __ ] taking it down It’s not up anymore Yeah Yeah It’s because people in this town want championships They don’t want regular season wins No one gives a rat’s ass You know the Bruins have those division winner Oh my gosh Jesus Christ Um all right Chirp three Roger McQueen is cleared for the combine draft prospects Should the Bruins take a chance on him if available in the draft He says he’s healthy He says it was misdiagnosed back issue that they said it was a bulging disc but it was actually a fracture He says he feels like a million bucks And do the Bruins if they have the opportunity at seven take the risk Whoa that’s so difficult for me I’m going to say no I’m going to say no I’m gonna say no Miss this No you can’t You can’t if back problems are bad news Like they’re bad news And whether it was misdiagnosed or if he actually had back problems for three years like back problems as an 18year-old It’s rough It doesn’t bode well for when you’re in your 20s or 30s even So I don’t I it just scares the hell out of me Look they’ll probably pass on him some team will take him and he’ll be great and everybody will [ __ ] on the Bruins for it But I can’t blame him on this one if they I wouldn’t blame him I wouldn’t blame him even if Roger McQueen was a you know a 10 time you know allstar Like I wouldn’t blame him because they can’t screw this up So to take a a risky guy and have him you know end up in and out of the lineup like Andre Kasha or something all the time like I just don’t think they can do that They can’t afford to do that They need to take the best available player has the best upside I still think it’s going to be O’Brien unless he creeps up a little bit Um I think it’s Jake O’Brien or I think it might an outside shot of Brady Martin That’s what that’s kind of what I’m thinking But that’s what I think too I think it’s going to be O’Brien And look I like O’Brien so I would be happy with that pick Uh I like what I’ve seen of Brady Martin too He’s flying up the you know the draft boards So um you know I I that that can’t be bad news I guess Um I don’t know as much about him Um so I mean it kind of worries me that he wasn’t as high and now he’s kind of shooting up the boards here at the end Um you know the consistency part kind of worries me a little bit but I mean I guess it’s that way with any you know 18-year-old or whatever So yeah there is I mean a guy like at Denier we said in the beginning like he’s he was named Captain Monton but whispers that he might be going to BC I’ve heard that And also you know we were talking about him being around at seven It sounds like he could go as high as three Three Yeah he could leap over Hagens and Mark Um you know if if for some reason he ends up in the Bruins lap you I don’t Yeah I think you have to take that guy Yeah it might be a guy like a Fondell or someone might slip down here You never know Yeah I mean if Martin moves up and some other guys move up maybe Yeah maybe you do end up with interesting to see who they get Uh Chirp four reportedly Martin Nus isn’t thrilled this time in Colorado Is this guy ever happy Should Boston revisit this Yeah Um I mean I don’t know what they could give up for him other than draft picks and and they have some now actually They do They do Um but yeah he wasn’t he wasn’t thrilled with his time in Colorado and and it seems like there’s a lot of people who aren’t weren’t thrilled with their time in Colorado So it’s kind of a Yeah Colorado seems to be a little bit of a of a of a unhappy place I’m not sure what the deal is Uh super talented team but just something off there and I don’t know what it is I mean they get Lind What’s that No junk food allowed No junk food Yeah McKinnon’s a like a hyper vigilant like eat healthy guy Is he Yeah Yeah He’s he never met Phil Kessle like I don’t think Phil Kessle would be allowed on the Avalanche No I don’t think so But I’ll tell you what Phil Kessle can score some goals Yeah And I did go down the rabbit hole of Marco Storm goals today Oh and I’ll tell you what the goal of course there was a Fenway goal and then it was the goal he scored in in 2008 in game six against the Canadians to win that game eventually Mhm But the pass he made like 3 minutes before that goal Kessle on the tape cross crease from the left wing boards was just a dime Yeah Fantastic A dime I mean that was and Sturm was a pretty good player for them I mean they really crucified for you know trading a generational player Yeah Who goes on to score 2,000 [ __ ] points or whatever it is But you know what Sturm was a pretty good player for them He was and he he helped sort of that build Too bad he wasn’t there in 11 He left in 10 but um you know he was part of the turnaround there for sure He was absolutely All right Sharp five Here it is If Dallas’s Jason Robertson or Andor Mason Marchman are available Yeah Do the Blu Bruins explore one of them or both And do they even have assets to get a guy like Robertson Um they should explore both of them 100% Yeah Um because those guys are talent uh and the Bruins need it So yes they should be in on both of those guys Um do they have the assets to get them Probably not Um but I’ll I’ll fall back again on the draft picks thing They have some draft picks here now You know they got two firsts this year or next year No sorry Next year they’ll have two firsts in either 27 or 28 because of the Florida pick with Marshand Um so they have some capital as far as draft picks go Um and with the Bruins sucking they those picks might be decent They might be So I mean they might be So maybe that’s something that you can entice Dallas with U because Dallas wants cap space So they’re not going to be looking for players to go back and return like you’re not going to trade Casey Middlestat to Dallas and get back Jason Robertson right So they’re gonna want draft picks or young players So maybe it’s a Patra and and a low Ryan picks or something along those lines Yeah I would do that in a second 100% Yes I tell you what Jason Robertson was a second round pick I thought I thought you had to have like high first round picks to have a good team I thought I thought if you didn’t have like a bunch of first round picks then you were you were screwed anyway Like why show up to the draft camp Yeah Like seriously I mean that that’s really what it is I mean you know they poor Donnie Sweeney you know he he he was a man left you know on an island even though he was the assistant GM And and then he comes in in May and and he and he just he had no idea who to pick I mean how would he How would he then you know how would you and then he lose you know they have to trade the first round picks to to remain relevant and try to get a Stanley Cup but we get it but you know it doesn’t matter why even show up to rounds three through seven who you’ve developed zero forwards in the last 10 years from rounds three through seven So yeah I mean I I get it But you know what They got lucky Dallas and drafted Jason Robertson with the 39th pick in the draft So um you know look I Nius Robertson you know whatever Like Rossi is a guy that they’ve actually their name has been floated with interest It absolutely has been Uh Rossi is a is an interesting guy Undersized center you know had a good 60point year or whatever it is Had 40 points and jumped to 60 Mhm Um Minnesota’s kind of moving on from him because they have other guys with big contracts coming up or already signed But I go back and forth on the Rossy thing because you know first of all who what are you trading to get him Picks again probably And then what are you paying the guy Because he kind of wants lofty pay He does I don’t I think I might in the beginning I I kind I was intrigued by him I might be out on him I’m out I I don’t I don’t want to I don’t want to look I think he’s probably hit his ceiling I think so too He was Yeah he was playing with good players from Minnesota Let’s not pretend like he wasn’t playing with good players He was playing Now if you want to go potra for Rossi or whatever I might consider that because at least you’re getting if Rossy wants eightish eight like I’m not doing that thing You already got one guy on the roster who’s has 45 points that we’re paying you know almost 8 million bucks to I’m not doing it with another guy who’s smallish and you know I don’t know how he’ll hold up in the playoffs but I’m not giving like six you know eight time eight to a guy that that small who I think probably hit his ceiling Like he might get to 70 75 points but that’ll be it like he’s not going to be a 90 point guy but does he come in first of all who did he play Did he play with Baldi Did he play with Caprio Did he play So if he comes to the Bruins he’s a second line winger a center playing with who Yeah exactly Like he’s not playing with the last Yeah he’s playing with Pablo Zak Yeah I mean [ __ ] He’s going to score He’s gonna have 42 points Yeah those two netwits are going to be you know skating in circles like when your [ __ ] controller dies in NHL Like just I mean Jesus Christ those two guys couldn’t score in a in a brothel with a fist full of hundreds Nope I mean Jesus I mean that’s the issue like Jesus You need a couple you need like three forwards You don’t need one You need like three legitimate top six forwards because you you you don’t really have a second line worth a damn No you don’t Those guys aren’t I mean I wouldn’t consider I would say right now um they have like they have like three top nine forwards Top nine forwards Top nine forwards Lindhol maybe three and a half Maybe three and a half Yeah Lindholm Posanak Geeky Zaka I guess call it four Top nine forwards Yeah top nine Yeah because Zaka is top nine Yeah you’re right Zaka is top nine And then I I mean you could maybe throw Frasier Mitten in there So we’ll go four and a half So they need four and a half forwards in their top nine Yeah it’s it’s it’s it’s bleak right They legitimately need a whole second line They do Unless Unless Patrick could get like a 60point play I don’t know But I I I have I have this weird feeling in my bones that they that they might trade him Oh I thought you were going to say that he was going to have a good year No that they might trade him Like I think because some of these guys are made available and he’s like the chip I mean other than your first round pick you know this year next year like Potra is like the next guy that you’re willing to trade is low what what um what shot is Lok Johansson Uh the is he a left shot Because if he’s a left shot I could see them I could see them dangling Lori too Yeah I Yeah And I honestly if someone called about Lorai they would listen I mean how would you not listen Like absolutely would Um he is a left shot D 63 215 Mhm Yeah I mean he’s a left shot D Brun is left I think Brun is a left shot too I think Brun might be a left shot too Um yeah And Brun has a real chance I think this this camp to show something to be at least maybe an extrad or something this Yeah I think so I think he could I think he could stick with the big team But is that I mean can he be the new if he’s a new pac Yeah he’s left too But if he’s a new pacer spoon fine Well you know Brune is a fine Try at least try him at the start of the year because again you can get a seventh defenseman at the [ __ ] deadline You get him today tomorrow and the next day Like to me Brune being as young as he is I would still probably rather him have him be like top pair in Providence and play 20 minutes in all situations I mean sure Yeah Behind you know the mass champion getting minus 43s out there You don’t want to play with uh Andrew Peak you know Yeah I mean so it’ be Lynholm Sidorov Brun Maybe they do dangle Lai and maybe they think a lot of Brun and they dangle Lorai Maybe Maybe they do Yeah I mean I’m going to go out on a limb right now I’m going to call it right now One of either Patra or Lorai will not be a Boston Bruin by next season I love it This off season You’re a little bit You’re a little bit uh Nostradamusy as far as the negative um Bruins things go Yeah I I I nail all the negatives Yeah I mean you jinxed the [ __ ] out of Jake De Brusk that that one year I did that one year I He was He was I You crushed him that one year and he ended up being like he ended up being in a fetal position in a in a [ __ ] closet in bubble That was pretty much your fault I blame you Yeah I I I crushed his world you know because his mother was probably listening to the podcast and telling everything She was our sister or somebody Cindy was Cindy was all over it Yeah Um all right Trip six Will Don Sweeney be around to see his seventh overall pick actually make his NHL debut I certainly hope not Certainly hope not I don’t think this guy they get is going to make the team this year I think the guy they get is probably going to play wherever the hell he’s playing this year Oh yeah He the seventh pick He won’t sign He won’t sign is he he will play in junior hockey or the NCAA 100% So I don’t believe um so he’s not going to be on the team for at least two years No possibly three And I don’t think John Sweeny’s around for that I really don’t Cuz I don’t think this is going to get better And I think this is a slow agonizing death of this whole regime I really do They are hanging on for dear life and it’s just inevitable It’s inevitable Uh I think Neilie will stay cuz he’s the new Harry Cindon He’ll stay until he decides not to do it anymore Yeah But they’ll get a new GM And you know who that GM is going to be It’s going to be Evan Gold Of course it’s going to be Evan Gold because that’s what happened with Don Sweeney and Peter Sharelli It’s going to be Evan Gold So all these people clamoring for Sweeney to be gone You’re going to have Evan Gold right behind him And hopefully they don’t do it in May so he doesn’t get his doesn’t have his hands in his pants when it’s draft time you know because you don’t want to put him in that position Well and they also look they also uh instead of going back to the to the table they just huddled you know on the stage to decide how who they wanted to pick It was just it was just location location location That’s all it was That’s why they [ __ ] it up Yeah You know they couldn’t go back to the table and look at the list They had to do it from memory and they [ __ ] it up Yeah The problem was maybe maybe that’s what it was They had they were like confusing Sician and somebody else and and they got the names mixed up because they didn’t they couldn’t go back to the table and Nearly Yes Neil and Sweeney were hanging out and they were like “Do you got the list?” No you had the list Oh [ __ ] Uh goddamn list Yeah Uh Zack Sedition was all right wasn’t he Yeah Throw him in there Yeah And then they get back and look and saw that it was a third round grade and they’re like “Ah damn it We that up.” Yeah that’s gonna suck Third round grade Damn it Damn it Could have had him tomorrow Yeah Uh chirp seven Paul Maurice convinced Rod Bindon not to go to the handshake line so players could just do it themselves What’s that about Because Maurice has been shaking hands every postseason series That’s a weird thing weird And I feel like Maurice was sending some sort of passive aggressive message to Carolina Almost like maybe there was some chirping from Carolina that they were going to win or that they were going to or that they didn’t like some of the antics that the Panthers had or something was going on there where Maurice was like “You know what You don’t want to respect us we’re not shaking your hand.” I think it could have been something Well I mean maybe it was uh the way Mar uh Brenda Moore was calling them out um in uh the Panthers in the media about the officiating and and some of the penalties and and figured maybe Maurice had something to do with the I mean obviously he does with the way that they play So um you know Maurice took offense to that and was like look I’m not going to shake your hand Let the players shake hands if they want to but I’m not shaking your hand And and look I think it’s childish And Maurice I don’t I think Maurice uh you know I’m team Brenda on this one As much as I like uh Maurice and think he’s a great coach um I I’m team Brenda more on this one Like I think Brendmore’s a crybaby but I I agree with him here Yeah I he is a crybaby A lot of them are Um but um you know I think they’re just trying to gain advantages um and trying to do whatever they can to win But um yeah I I’m I’m team Brandon Moore on this one I think Maurice kind of you know the handshake line’s kind of a thing that you should you should do That’s that’s a kind of a cool tradition in hockey and you know I think it should be upheld You know Bruins 1970 makes a great point I did call the Marshy trade I did I did say he was going to be traded I said it for about a month before it happened You did and he got traded in And we need that clip of of Sweenie saying Florida traded for Marshy No [ __ ] You traded him to traded him to you were part of that swings He bit He bid on all sorts of trades and future bets on DraftKings DraftKings Sportsbook is Boston’s hometown sports book It’s live right beauty this week uh the aforementioned obvious choice Marco Sturm going to love you e they’re going to be loving you from dawn until death So Stury the 30th head coach of the Boston Bruins uh you know he’s he has an awful task to take on as his first NHL job Uh interesting to see what they’ll add to the roster but um I think that if he can kind of put back together the defense needs to has have some health there Um and then see what happens offensively I’m really interested in that piece though more so than the defense because like like you said I think they have some of the personnel to get the defense right quicker than the offense It’s always easier to fix your defense rather than your offense you need the talent and skill They don’t have much of it and um you know I don’t know what they’re going to do there Yeah Uh it’ll be interesting to see what they what they do and they certainly need Swayman to uh to return to form two if they’re they’re going to go anywhere Uh and so uh the Benders this week are our good friends down in New York the New York Rangers Bender How about just gathering up all all the Bruins guys and just throwing them on a team and having together Sure They bring back David Quinn who sucked there Got David Quinn We got like all the all the Beu guys Yeah Joey They’re all BEu guys aren’t they They’re all BEu guys Quinn Saco [ __ ] Sullivan They’re all BU guys BU Central over there BU Yeah they paid Sully a lot of money They’re kind of a dumpster fire You know who else is a BU Isn’t Chris Drury’s a BEu guy too isn’t he He’s He’s BEu Yeah Yeah They have a wazoo down there Yes Yeah Um and none of the good BEu guys you know just a bunch of BEu guys Uh I’ll tell you this though they are in my opinion even more of a dumpster fire than the Rangers Go ahead Connor Can we start the conspiracy theory that Makavoy is going to get traded for there I mean father-in-law is the coach They’re all BEu guys and I believe his sister still works for the team She does So here’s the thing Let’s say they consider something like that What What do you get in return Is that an Adam Fox Charlie Makavoy Yeah Is that a change of scenery hockey trade Yeah H Do you want Fox for Makavoy No I don’t either I think Fox had a horseshit year last year I don’t think Fox is very good at all I think he’s a decent offensive guy but he’s not a two-way defenseman No he is not He is not He is not In fact he’s kind of a dumpster fire Yeah Yeah Uh and he didn’t put up the points last year and and you saw what happened Like if he doesn’t score points he’s they died on the bind He’s Yeah He I mean he’s not good No and they’re not if he’s not producing offensively like he’s not good Nope Like Makavoy you know as much as we’ve killed him and and you guys more than me but um you know his faults like defensively most of the time he’s he’s good defensively He’s right He’s good But offensively is where he tries to do too much and he struggles and the power play thing and like that’s all been beaten to death Um you know he can be good defensively like he can be a shut down defenseman when he’s right Um but he has to get back to being right and then he has to still chip in the offense but not go over the top with it And I think I will I will die on the hill that Cam Neely [ __ ] him up by saying he was you know like and Jim Montgomery [ __ ] him up too Yeah Trying to play this style where he’s just like there was times where he’s like cliffy hockey all over the all over the ice like I don’t even know what he’s doing Fish out of water Uh hopefully Sterm’s defensive style will kind of rein him in a little bit and get him back to the player that he was under Cassidy when he was a top five Norris guy And and they need that back They need that Charlie Mack boy back if they want to be any good Yeah Uh all right before we go some fan comments Andrew Peturkin better than Woodcock Not a true not a true Brewing insider Sturm old boys club guy He’ll be fine And I you know I think he’ll be fine Uh the roster needs to be much better I don’t think it matters right now to coach so much I mean he can he could coach his ass off but with the roster that they have they’re not winning many games They’re not winning many games you know as currently constituted Right Zack Hay says “Should have hired lover of Donskov.” Uh Donskov we hardly knew you We didn’t we don’t know what the hell happened yet but uh you’re out Uh Bruins 1970 says “This is Donnie Shimmer.” And it certainly is He has too much of his hands in the everyday operation Um come [ __ ] signing could be a hint that we will tank again says 1950 Uh take away pasta and this 100% Sween’s roster says Zack Haste Yeah it’s true It is Um I look if they’re going to tank it this would be the year to tank If you’re going to tank like if you’re going to do the if you’re going to do the tanking thing like this is the year to do it Yeah Um because Gavin McKenna is out there and and you know he’s one of those generational guys He’s not just like you know a first round pick he’s one of those like you know that they mention in the same breath as Conor McDavid and that kind Sure Yeah Uh Zack K says uh in regards to Roger McQueen it was spinal or snuffalopicus or spinobipida or something I don’t know what the hell that is Spinoifa I don’t know what it is but uh hopefully he’s okay and has a great career and not in the Bruins Somebody gonna donate to the March of Dimes right I think he’s one of those Jerry Lewis kids or something Yeah I think you made it I don’t know I don’t know Spinal taps all around I don’t know They have a spinal tap guy I think they got rid of the Didn’t they get rid of the trainer They got rid of the skating guy Do they have a spinal tap guy Oh my Christ Ryan Hall says “Hey what the [ __ ] What do What the [ __ ] do we have to lose Take McQueen Fix it Fix his back Fix the team [ __ ] it Whatever.” You know what Ryan At this point I’m kind of with you Like [ __ ] it Like let’s just if he’s good just take him [ __ ] it See what happens Take him You know look this is what’ll happen If the Bruins take him it’ll be a Gourd Kloak situation where you know all the talent in the world and we’ll play like a handful of games and in those games he’ll be pretty good Um but he won’t play and then he’ll retire early and you you get screwed Um if they pass he’s going to go somewhere else and he’s going to be great and he’s going to be healthy That’s what’s going to happen Yes Yeah And that’s that’s the Brewing way It is Um hey please head over to the merch shop grab some Bruins Benders merch Yeah uh join us on the benders off air content ITR plus uh as well uh and it’s a 20% off with code sorry John at the merch shop some rocks glasses some shirts t-shirts That's why Sullivan didnt want anything to do with the Bruins IMO.
Trade Swatman before the no trade kicks in DePietro is ready
