We take a break from UFA conversations to hear from you the listeners. Whose ceiling is higher? Cossa or Augustine? If we had to choose one, would we rather have a top 4 defensemen or top 6 forward? Who will be next seasons breakout candidate? #LGRW

  1. Marner is not someone Detroit needs. He struggled with the withering gaze of Leafs fans and media.
Detroit fans cyber bullied the last head coach simply because of how he looked the entire time he was here. Hell, we’ve turned on Steve Yzerman. Marner cannot hang in this market any better than he did in Toronto.

  2. I actually think Jan Bednar is better than Cossa unfortunately. Cossa is just taller and was a first round pick so got the AHL job but Jan Bednar deserved it from what I've seen

  3. Fossa is playing professional hockey in the AHL and people in the comments think Augustine is better because he is winning in college. Maybe give the 22 year old goalie a break since goalies take longer to develop?

  4. With the world's worst PK, there's only one discussion to be had before anything else. 3 Marners wouldn't make up for that giant gaping hole in this team.

  5. Hard to compare their play in regular season games in the NCAA vs the American Hockey League but it's easy to compare who plays better in big games. Augustine has responded with big play in big games in the NCAA championship or World Juniors. Cossa played well in the Western Hockey League championship 3 years ago and in the shoot out after lackluster regulation play in his one opportunity with the Wings his past season. In big games since then Cossa has not risen to the challenger either late in the regular season or in the Grand Rapids playoffs. Augustine has excelled in big games against world junior competition last year or NCAA playoffs this year so he is my pick to excel in the NHL where every game is a big game..

  6. I don't think it matters because i think Augustine will walk himself to the UFA market after he refuses to sign yet again next year so the question should be between Cossa and Rudy Guimond.

  7. Until #19 gets at least 2 legit D Men and 3 or 4 defensive minded Wingers, it doesn't matter WHO is in net for the Wings…

  8. Yzerman is going to do anything to save his job this season expect shock signings and trades this off season.

  9. A lot of unfounded panic in Cossa over 1 bad playoff series where the entire team imploded. This fan base is overly sensitive to players potentially being soft and it's getting annoying af.

  10. The Red Wings have a long history of burying goalies in the minors for too long. Osgood, Howard & Legace had to sit in the minors or in backup roles because the Wings were busy signing other goalies, many of who were worse than what they already had in their farm system.

Augustine did a great job in college, but they only play a small number of games each year at a lower level of play. Burying Cossa in Toledo and GR just delays the ability for him to get experience in years when the Wings didn't make the playoffs anyway. So Mrazek and Talbot are supposed to make the difference for the Wings? It's just more one or two year average goalie rentals that need to be replaced once again. Frankly, Lyon has more upside than Mrazek and Talbot at this point of their careers.

Yzerman needs to get off the geezer signings who don't produce much and serve to delay the development of draft picks. Who needs another 35 year old third liner who can only score 10 goals per year. You're better off developing a young guy who can develop in the NHL instead of overpaying for 3rd and 4th liners.

  11. Detroit needs a playoff goalie, no way! Vernon, Osgood, Hasek…goalies like those guys. And if they hire a guy like this just keep him protect specially against PANTHERS

  12. I'm so done with the disrespect for Chiarot and Johansson. Aljo came in and provided better defensive play than Edvinsson in the second pair, as a rookie. Chiarot held the fort down on the top pair for most of the year despite not actually having the pedigree of a top pair guy. Both of them were above your expectations in some way, and you two just keep talking about them like they're irrelevant trash. Edvinsson was a mess for the last several weeks and didn't contribute much at the Worlds, but in your minds he has already locked down the #2 spot.

  13. The people that have turned on Yzerman as a GM don't know the inner workings of hockey and how hard it is to build respect in the NHL community. He has done everything the fans asked of each year even with sub par options on the table

  14. My bet for a prospect to make it out of camp or breakout prospect is Ant Johansson. I think he’s a bit more ready for NA play style than ASP and could fill in on the third pair with his physical style and smooth skating.
