Do people not know the cap is going up? Like. What?
As a VGK fan, I think more and more teams are trying to go all in, forfeiting draft picks and trying to win it all in a limited window. I don’t hate the signing. Btw, I like the Avs too!
How stupid! But not $12M for a player like Mikko! The dumbest GM on the planet!!!!🫣🤮😱🤬🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
I'm confused by the sentiment that they had any other options but to run it back. You will never have makar and mackinnon in their prime again. We are running it back Every. Single. Year. It's the only thing to do.
7.5m is not bad at all for a 2C who, oh, btw happens to have really good chemistry with Landy. This will age decently.
Stop bringing up the Mikko trade in this context. What position did we need to fill more? A winger doe Mackinnon or a 2C for half the price of what Mikko wanted until he left Carolina?
36 isn't old. My fat ass was still running half marathons twice a week at 36 and Im NO pro athlete
Shaggy seems fine with going mediocrity at the 2c position for how many years in a row? I'm over it. Nelson is a legit 2c and 7.5m is worth it to me to not have to worry about that position for the next 3 years. Dude the market is slim and a lot of teams are looking for a 2c. We can trade some dead weight to give us some breathing room
Sorry, some of shaggy’s take cracks me up. There are no worth Center out there and every teams are looking for one. You finally lock that position for the next couple of years with a bonafide 2C and it’s a High demand and short supply position. The deal is the going rate for that position. Lucky they lock him up before free agency. Now they can move players around to gain cap space. Move Wood, Colton and Girard. Let’s see how it all plays out before next season.
The “internal cap” instituted by the owner will cripple the Avalanche going forward. Teams like Vegas will spend money to land big free agents. While the Avs traded away their prospects and draft choices and overpaid for an aged slow 2c, I don’t understand why journalist and commentators don’t crucify the poor moves this analytical Nimrod CMac 🤡 made during his tenure. And I’m still perplexed why they didn’t attempt to trade Mikko for a legitimate younger. 2C. They overpaid b/c they had to. But we will celebrate their their regular season success w/o deep playoff runs. P
Brock ranks 29th in points by a centers over the past 5 year timeframe and the 10 year timeframe. Of all the names above him? 3 make less than 7.5 Mil AAV that's not including the cap jump when those three people signed. His point production are the same for reg season and post season. And he's rarely hurt knock on wood. This is the definition of solidifying the 2C position that has plagued us. Even if there is a slight decline in play compared to the consistent career he's put up, this is exactly the flexibility and diversification of assetts that Cmac was going for by moving on from Mikko. We now have Drury, Necas and Brock for 15.6 mil compared to Mikko for 14.
hopfully he earns that 7.5 this year cause its a bit pricey , 5 would of been reasonable, but again not alot of options at center atm
i was tinkering with the math , if we indeed did offer mikko 12mil which yikes we would of lost 3 players at minimum in a bunch of combos ways , wood and 2/3s of the 3rd line make 11.75 million ,girard and manson are 9 million ,so we lose one dman and 2 3rd liners, , or all those forwards for one guy and then were stuck filling those spots with zero cap room like zero even dropping drouin we still lose 3 guys no matter what .so hope that puts the we could of kept mikko thing to bed for alot of ppl .
Nelson was in the 90th percentile of speed bursts over 20 mph so I think he can keep up
guys, stop complaining about 7.5…how much have the Avs dumped and draft capital lost chasing a 2C, how many failed players for 3 years. Geezus, are you insane, solve the problem, the cap increases this year, next year and the year after. Give him the money, shore up the 2C, and move on, geezus. Dump low performers. Now, I don't want to see Kivi go, I didn't care for him much until the last portion of this season.
its simple, if this team cannot stay healthy, and it hasn't for 3 years, you have to start asking, what is wrong with the conditioning coaching, this team needs to have all its players playing and healthy or its just another stinky stuff show.
Nelson deal is 1 percentage point cheaper than Kadris deal against the cap at the time
Data shows the Nelson line drove alot of play
If you look at league salaries, Nelson is paid to be a top 5 2C. Sure, go cheaper. Guess what else that does. That means your 2LW and 2RW are also worse. You have to factor in what the player does with regards to the players next to them. Do you save 1.5m at 2C and get 30 less points from that line collectively? It’s not worth that sacrifice. Pay your 2C. Trade a bloated contract or two and finish the build.
Not a great extension IMO.
guys….necas 6.5 and brock 7.5 ….2 mil more than rants for both of them are a much better idea than paying rants 12 n having no 2c still?
i think we see manson or colton out for cap room….manson for picks or a prospect and bring up middleton full time
we have to sign lidgren
