White Sox to Orlando
I understand why people are skeptical about tourists. But as someone who lives in the Orlando area the amount of tourists looking for something to do at night, especially over the summer, is staggering. If you go anywhere near the I-Drive area they are talking about good luck with the crowds, especially in the summer. Tourism may not be a huge deal in a lot of places, but Orlando tourism is another beast. The theme parks don't stay open all night. If Disney or Universal gets behind it in anyway it'll take off. You get a gameday bus at Disney Springs to the stadium (or extend Sun Rail Train), and this can really take off. Might not be exactly the same as other markets, and yes there will be a lot of visiting team fans, but who cares. Start by getting butts in seats, and eventually those kids who live here grow up to be "Rays" fans instead of the team their dads grew up rooting for.

Mlb is not putting three teams in Florida Rays may ending up moving out but all this is just speculation at best.
He's in that business and it's the only way to get MLB imo. Aside from that it's too close to Miami and Tampa. I doubt it but Rays are still up in the air whereas A's will settle in Vegas.

I actually (Tampa Bay resident) want this to work, but I know hubris and stupidity will get in the way. Thus, I'm going to laugh my ass off when you name them Dreamers (for all the wrong reasons while killing a great brand) and it fails miserably. Only way this works is if you bring TB along and make this a Central Florida (not South Florida) effort, targeted at the rest of the state. But, as I suspect, the urge to chest thump and teabag your neighbors will be too strong. Oh well, going to be a fun watch.

Greg Warmoth's son was the 1st Rnd Draft pick of the Blue Jays back in 2017ish, so Greg is a very invested baseball person locally.
sp wheee does this leave the white sox and dbacks relocation wise. also looking at the nfl the texans are trying to get a new lease before it ends i 7 years yet the bungles have 24 days to renew theirs or move next year. and the city of cincy should've had it done years ago to keep the bengals. i guess cincy isnt a 3 sport city.

If the White Sox move to Orlando, they better keep the White Sox name. It's a historical team and Dreamers sounds stupid anyways.
Brodie, Orlando is the only city in Florida that has an influx of tourists in the summer. Tampa/St. Pete has a net outflow, with snowbirds in gone. Unlike Vegas, Orlando tourists are families, and watching their local team in Orlando is likely going to happen. Many Magic games in the winter have a good chunk of opposing teams fans.

This orlando thing needs to stop. Everyone is BIG MAD over the Athletics leaving a literal SHITHOLE of a city while the rays are actually having trouble with contracrual issues. The fans in Tampa aren't the issue its the ploy to make it inconvenient for fans to watch the rays thats killing them. Tampa is full of etremely young or old folks, trying to balance that is not easy but its a vibrant market compared to Oakland. Orlando is not a good place for MLB too much in the middle. However what the rays should consider is a transient home style schedule where they play in different cities in Florida for a few select cities in the area but keep tampa as the primary location

The difference between tourism in Vegas and tourism in Orlando is that in Vegas, the casinos will buy suites and club seats for their whales, whereas in Orlando, families that have spent a mint going to Disney World may buy some reasonably priced tickets as a break. Vegas lacks any business other than tourism. I don’t know what the business climate is like in Orlando, but you’ve got to have someone to buy premium seats to make it work nowadays.
MLB is never going to put 3 teams in Florida when neither one gets any support now ..For Orlando it’s the Rays or nobody because Florida is a proven failure for baseball other than spring training

White Sox are never leaving Chicago. That would be the same thing as the Mets leaving NYC, and yes I am well aware of the history of the Giants and the Dodgers (who left Brooklyn the year I was born in Brooklyn)😝
I think the likelihood of the Rays moving to Orlando is slim at best. I know that some people think tourism will support baseball, I don't agree. And every time I hear John Morgan chant " TOURISTS" it reinforces for me what we all know, money can buy a lot of things but it can't buy brains.
and as hard as it is to believe this I honestly feel that this group of investors in Orlando would actually prove to be even worse than Stu Sternberg. Having a winning team will mean nothing to them because at the end of the day the tourists will be there for the visiting team.

I'm sure the league (aka the owners) would be happy with the kind of money to be made from a tourist's team. But fans should not want more of these kinds of owners. They don't care about the game and will not hesitate to mangle it if they can find a way to squeeze more money out of it. Oakland and John Fisher are just the beginning if we as fans don't demand a better class of ownership. Maybe this will fall on deaf ears in America today but money is not the only thing that matters.
