  1. Embellishment, especially in accidental hits to head or face with sticks, is becoming a major playoff ploy and shame for NHL. Referees have to not over react, and should be more aware of friendly fire stick incidents that replays show make the call wrong. AI challenges will soon replace coach challenges, if the computer challenges the human referee on ice, does that mean the God of Cameras is becoming our leader in hockey? Keeping acting injured off the ice and the game will be more entertaining and decided by real hockey plays, not ploys.

  2. That delay of game rule is a joke! Referees should make that call based on intent. There is no way a player is going to intentionally shoot the puck out of play in a Stanley cup final overtime game! No game of this importance should be decided by this ridiculous rule!

  3. Re-invent themselves? Edmonton has been a "gritty" team for the last 5 years., as per Hollands design…big, fast and "chippy". I'm looking forward to the LA Kings transformation.

  4. Podkolzin doesn't get enough credit for how much he stepped up, especially tonight. He was filling Hyman's shoes well. Landing hits after hits, going to the net, being offensive. Great player.

  5. What the NHL needs to do is implement an 18+ program with live mics to include all the banter. Now that I’d pay for.

  6. The better team won Game 1. Edmonton would appreciate another 57 minutes in a row of shutout hockey from Stuart Skinner, who was comfortably the best player in the 2nd period and stepped up in the important moments. McDavid's two primary assists for the tying and winning goals sums up the clutchness and desire to win in the finals. I thought Florida's best 5 players were Bennett, Verhaeghe, Marchand, Luostarinen (or Ekblad), Bobrovsky. Barkov and Tkachuk had poor games, the latter falls on the ice allowing Kapanen to pick out McDavid comfortably who then drives to the net, and passes it to Kane / Ekholm and they score the important 3rd period equalizer. Not many mentioning Tkachuk fell in an important situation.
As for Edmonton, their best 8 players were Draisaitl (2 goals, played good defensively in 1st and 3rd period noticeably), McDavid (2 primary assists for 3-3 and 4-3 ot winner), Kane (9 hits and +2), Walman (blocking shots constantly, first finals game, looked very experienced), Arvidsson (cruical slapshot goal, has been fantastic since game 4 vs Dallas at forechecking and shifting momentum in games, pressure the opponents defense) Podkolzin (provided screen for quick response goal by Arvidsson, best player in the opening 10 minutes of OT and along with McDavid and Ekblad, in the final 10 minutes of 3rd period).
Bouchard (a few turnovers but good speed and composure in last 16 minutes of OT like Ekholm. Bouchard could have won the game in OT 30 seconds before over the glass play by Nosek. Klingberg (2nd period was poor, didn't seem that decisive for most of game, major reason to why Walman blocked so many shots, as they play together. I don't think EDM keeps the veteran in the offseason) and Nurse (mostly for Marchand's 2-1 goal, could not clear the zone a few times in the 2nd period).
Bobrovsky was great, but Edmonton's entire team played well. Ekholm looks great & fresh. Florida probably feels the effects of jet lag more as the series shifts to FL in Gm 3.

One of the best opening games to a Stanley Cup Final, probably better than 2022 and 2014 (LA outshot NYR 20-3 in 3rd period). 2013 game 1 was insanely good (3 OT needed, Boston blows a 3-1 lead in 3rd period in Chicago).

  7. From 1min 29 seconds left in 2nd period until the OT winner (with 31seconds left), Florida generated just 8 shots on goal (so last 41min of game) and half those shots came from the opening 2 minutes of overtime. Edmonton's ability to play solid defensive hockey in the 3rd periods of Games 3+4+5 vs Dallas and now in Game 1 vs Florida, is showing their team is more experienced and better suited to win deep into the postseason.

  8. They talk over and over about Draisaitl no goals last finals yet don't say a peep about him having a broken finger and a broken rib last year after the Van series

  9. Olympics every 4, 4 Nations style exhibition every 4, with an NHL All Star Weekend in between. Best of everything.
    Olympics, All-Star, 4 Nations, All-Star, Olympics, All-Star… etc etc.

  10. Everyone in Alberta and all of Canada need to relax. We act like what Edmonton did was something extraordinary and other teams have not done to the Panthers. It’s called a series for a reason

  11. my question on the 2018 trail if they are cleared of wrong doing why would the league punish them do they know better than the police? if they are convicted the punishment will be decided in court not by the nhl

  12. I remember when McDavid was in Juniors, I can't remember if it was OHL playoff competition, or U20s. He was going behind the net with the puck in the Ozone. He looked at the glass like he's watching a QT in row 1. He then backhanded the puck to a linemate. I believe a goal was scored .
I swear he saw the reflexion on the glass of his teammate closing in. If that was the case. Then McDavid can see everything.

  13. The Oiler to win this series 97 and 29 must play great. Last night they did. Scary thing is is that they can be better than last night. But they can’t win if those 2 don’t play great.

  14. Kapanen played 20 minutes last night. Absolutely flying. Thought Kaner, Podz and Kap were all great. Arvy looked good as well.

Bouchard (one bone-headed pass attempt aside) was great and so was Ekholm and Walman.

  15. BLATANT FAVORITISM !!! LOOK at an OILER, GET PENALIZED !!! OF COURSE YOU WILL WIN, WHEN YOU HAVE the REFS IN YOUR BACK POCKET and their ALL PAID OFF !!! EVERYTIME I RE-ENTERED the ROOM, OILERS WERE ON a POWER PLAY !!! REFS CALLING PENALTIES IN OVERTIME, OTHER than a BLATANT CUT TO FACE. IS 100% B/S !!! GOOD REFS WILL LET the PLAYERS DECIDE the OUTCOME of the GAME ! NOT the REF DECIDING the OUTCOME ! BLO ODY TRAGEDY , WHAT these REFS are DOING to the GAME of HOCKEY !!!

  16. Are you kidding me bro, Benett has been an impact but no where even close to winning the Conn Smythe, there is no world that I'm trading 6 extra goals for 12 extra points. By the end of the series the lead will be way bigger than that. Just slow your roll.
