I've been suggesting we trade up to #1 because of the Hagens/Isles connection since the day the Isles and Mammoth moved up in the draft. I was told by Isles fans I was crazy every place I suggest it…then I started seeing that suggestion pop up from hockey youtubers and NHL Network…not such a crazy idea after all 😂. I had been suggesting packaging the 4th pick, and 2nd rounder and an NHL ready player like Lamoureuex for #1 pick. It would help Isles weak farm system and they'd very likely get Hagens too.
Please do not trade Durzi!! IMO, he is the heart and soul of the team. When he returned, we had 32 points in the last 26 games, and the team seemed to play with way more energy. Save Durzi!!!
Don't think we should move Veggie, but not opposed to getting another quality goalie so duties can be shared. Also, I think Hrabel will be very good. Veggie can hold down the spot till he is ready.
Much love, but no way durzi is enough to move the needle, even packaged with 4th overall, to get 1st overall. You have to understand it's not solely about the value of the trade. it's about 1) risking how it might look 5-10 years down the line if, for example, Schaefer is winning a norris or two and Hagens is MAYBE one of your best core pieces, but not quite an all star. Also you have to consider there is more than just you in on that pick, and i guarantee a team like the sharks and hawks are making a better offer (with better picks at 2 and 3).
Its rare trades like these get done, not because the offers weren't reasonable, but because the long term risk of trading away the 1st is too great, especially for a rookie GM like darche.
Not sayjng it's impossible, but the trade would need to be clearly one sided in the isles favor for it to ever happen
