It's Suzuki told Hughes they didn't need a trade.
They wouldn't do anything in the playoffs this year even with a 2c. We dont want another rushed trade and have mcgonagh fir gomez tradw

You're missing the point bud. Give up assets or picks to not be guaranteed a playoff spot? Once in, lose in the first round? If they do nothing and go nowhere, they have all summer to rest. If they make it to the playoffs with no additions, they've proven to themselves that they can and they show management what they have – so this summer, next season, trade deadline march 2026 the GM can work his magic (with the money, players, picks he didn't carelessly waste just to play 2-3 home playoff games this spring.
No one was even expecting to make the playoffs this year, let alone a deep run. They are still on the outside looking in. Making the playoffs this year was always going to be icing on the cake. Kent Hughes did not make a mistake at the deadline. He has this team set up for years to come. This is a cold take.
Also woth noting hes had more points than any player in the NHL since the 4 nations (more then MacKinnon/McDavid) id say its working out well
