  1. They're not moving Rielly this year , as much as i wish they would they got Carlos for a reason and i can't see them investing so much in Carlos to just say well we were wrong we made a mistake Carlos wasn't the right guy not happening

  2. So what I'd do is sit down with Rielly and tell him he can either waive and we'll try to get him to a team he wants to play for, or we'll buy him out. I don't think that's ruthless, it's business. Just buying him out without saying a word and letting him find out while watching sportsnet is ruthless.

  3. Tell Rielly he is not part of the plans and trade him for what the team needs with half retained.

  4. Why can't Reaves, Jarnkrok and/or Kampf be traded for low-round picks or bust prospects that could try to resurrect their careers or play for the Marlies?

  5. You gotta keep him and hope he bounces back. There's not many guyd available in free agency who are as good as him and the Leafs lack puck movers (which he does well).

  6. I find it interesting that the leafs never traded Rielly to begin with. 12 years is a long time….that said on a non winning note….you know the Leafs are viewed as "iconic" right? Well when something that is in that category your not supposed to change it. If the Leafs win the cup that changes things. As it stands right now they make their money buy creating hysteria around "what if" and "when" . And the stupid curse stories that most ppl ignore now anyway. I also do not believe these players want to win a cup in Toronto. I no longer trust this team at all. I would love to see another franshise here in Toronto. New owners.

  7. I know this sounds awful but what about a sign & trade deal Marner for Kreider & K'Andre maybe…. 🫣🤷‍♂️🏆

  8. Buyout Reilly ? Only the Leaf fans would want to blow up one of the best teams in the league . You guys are going to turn the Leafs into another malfunctioning Canucks franchise.

  9. I'm not convinced that guys with NMCs can't be convinced to give a list of teams. If you really want to be ruthless, tell them they won't be dressed, and they can sit at home and collect their cheques. It's perfectly within a team's right to do that. A NMC says you can't be forced to play somewhere else, which makes perfect sense, as you sign an 8 year deal and don't want to find out the last 7 of those years will be in Buffalo. What a NMC doesn't mean is that the team is forced to actually play you. If they stop with the full NMC for full length of the deals, and instead get a 10 team list in last 2 years of the deal, then that's fine.

  10. 41 points in 82 games and an on-ice goal differential that was 4.6 ABOVE expected.
7 points in 13 playoff games and an on-ice goal differential that was 0.7 below expected.

That's not worth buying out. That's worth getting a better second pair so he doesn't have to play as much ice time.

  11. You have no sense of loyalty if you want him gone. Reilly has been at the leafs for so long he is one of the rare players these days that actually care about the badge.

He may not be the best defenseman in the team or league. But surely his loyalty has to mean something?

Or you happy to say to him, "You have been here for so long, been loyal now get out".

He will also most likely accept a team friendly deal to.

  12. A buyout of any kind, especially down the line. Thwarts salary cap increases. I can’t see it with anyone, rielly especially. Reaves expires after next season. I’d be surprised if anyone is. Also takes (might be wrong correct me) a retained salary position. That could complicate trade deadline deals down the line.

  13. Why would anyone trade for Ryan Reeves. If any team needs a goon they can easly find one for the NHL minimum. Reeves is way past his sell by date

  14. If they do that I hope the Canucks go for Rielly hard (assuming he takes a small deal since he has the buyout money). A real problem in Vancouver is they are bottom of the league offensively and defensively when Hughes isnt on the ice, but when he is they are top 5 in most chance metrics. Guys impact is crazy but they lean on him way too hard and even played him injured last year. Having another guy who can take some minutes in a less pressure role than what he had to do in Toronto would be nice. Maybe makes less sense now they have Marcus Pettersson long term but absolutely would want him at less money.
