Jason Robertson Trade Rumors IGNITE Frenzy Among Sharks Fans | Is Mason Marchment More Realistic?

The Dallas Stars find themselves in a precarious salary cap situation, with a mere $4.9 million in cap space and only 16 players signed. This financial squeeze could potentially benefit the San Jose Sharks, who are poised to capitalize on the Stars’ predicament. JD Young explores the possibilities, including the unlikely but enticing prospect of acquiring Jason Robertson, a 25-year-old offensive powerhouse who tallied 35 goals and 45 assists last season. However, a more realistic target emerges in Mason Marchment, a middle-six forward whose 22 goals and 25 assists in 62 games align with Mike Grier’s player profile.

Young’s analysis extends beyond forwards to include defensemen Matt Dumba and Ilia Lyubushkin as potential cap dumps. These right-handed blueliners could be available along with draft picks, reminiscent of last year’s Cody Ceci acquisition. The Sharks’ strategy appears focused on strengthening their middle-six forward group, which Young argues is crucial for the team’s overall improvement.

This episode offers listeners an in-depth look at how the Sharks might leverage the Stars’ cap constraints to reshape their roster for the upcoming season. From high-profile targets to strategic acquisitions, the discussion covers a range of possibilities that could significantly impact San Jose’s performance. Fans of both teams, as well as those interested in the intricacies of NHL salary cap management, will find valuable insights in this analysis of potential moves and their implications for the Sharks’ future.

  1. Hard to imagine them getting rid of Robertson. If he's on the market, there's a bidding war. The Sharks aren't giving up a 1st rounder and I gotta imagine that'd be essential part of the package. Robertson would be a pick + prospect + player in a deal. Return the Dallas 30th overall pick + Bystedt + Wennberg? I guess there's a chance, but not much.

They might reluctantly want to part with Marchment. If you're talking 3rd + 4th, that's seems very cheap. But yes, its sensible for the Sharks if that's what it takes.

They'd probably pay something to get rid of Dumba. So if they'd pay a 4th rounder, then you're good.

Dumba + Marchment for a 3rd rounder? I'd be OK with that.

I do think the Sharks might be able to include Bords or Gushchin in a trade, if someone is interested in them and wants to offer them an RFA deal. Which, to be fair, is probably the case for a least some teams. Not much of a return, but its something. I think that's a good call on your part to suggest it.

Big picture, Sharks don't need to be giving up assets at this point in the rebuild. But they could use that snarl with Marchment and eat some cap to get to the cap floor.

  2. Was watching Seravalli today talking about Robertson he feels all Dallas will want back is picks/ and prospects at the most they want no player with an nhl contract they need every bit of cap space they can find

  3. I would love to get a guy like Robinson but I think trades like that will be more realistic in 3-4 years when we have a better idea of what we’ve got. Right now most of the guys other teams would want are high level prospects that haven’t even touched NHL ice yet. See how some of these guys pan out and go from there. I’d be super down for a guy like Marchment though. Guys that can still be effective but won’t break the bank are gonna be GMMGs bread and butter for the next few seasons.

  4. Jason Robertson would be awesome. I believe the Sharks have enough to trade to Dallas that would please the Stars. We have draft capital and highly regarded prospects. I would do the deal. Sharks need to keep pick #2 and draft Misa.buold the top 3 lines.

  5. Oh hell yeah. Ppl were laughing at me when I suggested Robertson to the Sharks a while back. I'm excited for the possibility for my fellow pinoy to get to the bay!!! Robert-SON!!!
