Marco Rossi to the Boston Bruins?
Could the Boston Bruins be trading for Marco Rossi of the Minnesota Wild? I’m here to give you the latest info on your beloved Boston Bruins. If you’ve been liking my Bruins content, please leave me a like and subscribe if you’ve already done so. Thank you and let’s get into it. According to the fourth period.com, the Boston Bruins are showing interest in Wild center Marco Rossi. As reported by Anthony Demarco of Daily Faceoff, the Wild are not interested in signing Rossi to a large contract at this time and neither seemed to be the Philadelphia Flyers who spoke with the Wild about Rossi but declined to engage further after contracting Cox. According to TFP’s Dave Pagnata, Rossi is believed to be looking for a deal similar to a 7-year $49 million contract Matt Baldi had already inked with the Wild. Marco Rossy’s journey in the NHL has been a testament to resilience and growth. Drafted ninth overall by the Minnesota Wild in 2020 NHL draft, Rossi faced early challenges, including health issues that delayed his debut. After a brief stint in 2021-22 season, he spent significant time in the NHL to hone his skills. By the 2024-25 season, Rossi emerged as a key contributor to the Wild, recording 21 goals and 32 assists over 68 games, showcasing his offensive prowess and playmaking abilities. Despite his on eye success, Rossy’s future with the Wild has been a topic of discussion. As pending restricted free agent contract negotiations are underway, they have hit an impass and it looks like the Wild are looking to trade him. General manager Bill Garin has publicly stated his satisfaction with Rossy’s development and contribution to the team, but still looking to trade him. The teams that are showing interest in Rossy are the Calgary Flames, the Buffalo Sabres, the Vancouver Conucks, the Montreal Canadians, the New York Rangers, and the Boston Bruins. I’m a Bruins site, so I’m only going to talk about the Bruins cuz honestly, whatever on the other teams. Also, given the Rangers cap situation, how are the Rangers able to pull this one off? Rossy’s evolution into being a reliable center has been pivotal for the Wild. His ability to adapt and perform under pressure was evident when he stepped up during key injuries in the lineup, delivering multi-point games and solidifying his role in the top line. His two-way play and commitment to improvement had not only earned him the trust of the coaching staff, but also made him an integral part of the team’s core. But oddly enough, in the playoffs, he didn’t get that much ice time and was dogged by the media and his coach a couple times. The Wild’s management recognizes the importance of nurturing homegrown talent like Rossi. With the teams navigating salary cap constraints, developing and retaining young players becomes crucial. Rossy’s progression aligns with the organization’s vision of building a competitive roster through an internal development rather than relying solely on external acquisitions. Or at least it did until Rossi was looking for a long-term deal and the team is more interested in a bridge deal now. Funny how that works. Rossy’s commitment to the Wild is evident. He expressed a strong desire to remain with the Wild, emphasizing his focus on contributing to the team success and growth. The NHL is a business though and it needs to be a two-way street. Bill Garren is a tough GM and he’s willing to take risks, but for some reason he isn’t willing to give Rossi a long-term deal. So, that tells me either he doesn’t like something about Rossy’s game or he just doesn’t see him as a top six and thinks he’s a bottom six center. I’m I’m confused cuz he had a pretty good season last year. The Wild have Carl Capri off set to be a UFA at the end of next season and will be commanding a huge raise for the 9 million he’s currently making. But the Wild also have $46 million in cap space. So they shouldn’t have an issue signing Rossi. This doesn’t even put them up to the cap even when they resign Capri off. Rossi got 68 points last season. But maybe the Wild are looking for more at the center position and are looking to upgrade. Maybe they do a deal with Vancouver and they trade Person for Rossi. Maybe that’s an upgrade. The Bruins certainly want to upgrade at that position and I would think they would be very much interested in Marco Rossi. But what are the cost? Rossi is an RFA and not a UFA, which means the Wild hold his rights and they don’t have to trade the 23-year-old. Rossi, however, is ineligible for a salary arbitration, which would have provided either a one or two-year term, but is eligible to sign an offer sheet with 31 other teams across the league as early as July 1st. So, there is a pressure point for the Wild to potentially trade Rossi if the contract isn’t agreed upon this month. It would cost a team a pretty penny depending on how long the contract Rossi is looking for. If someone were to offer Sheetum, though, Rossi wants a seven-year deal with 49 million. Say the Bruins give him that deal. Divide that 49 million by four and you’re left with 12.25 million as the value of compensation as an AAV. For a team to offer sheet him, they would have to give up four first round picks, which makes me think no team is going to offer sheet this guy and certainly not the Boston Bruins. For the Bruins to get him, it would have to be via trade and it wouldn’t be free. You’re talking Mason Lorai, a first in Matthew Potra to even start the conversation. I think I don’t think the Bruins first round pick this year is in play, but maybe the pick they got from Florida and the Marshian trade. The Bruins would have to give up a sizable amount of their future to get a deal done and their prospect pool is already pretty slim. I don’t even know if Patra Lai in a first gets it done. I’m not sure other teams value Potra as much as the Bruins do and I think Loai has a lot of potential offensively on the back end. I would think if you’re the Bruins though, you would like to send Casey Middlestaff back in any deal if you’re getting Rossy because Rossi would instantly be your second line center. The Wild aren’t rebuilding though, which makes me think they would like a roster player back in return. But if it drags out long enough, maybe Sweeney can get some leverage out of them. As much as I think Rossi would be great in Boston, I have a hard time seeing how it would even work cuz I just don’t see what Boston has to offer back in a trade that can help the Minnesota Wild. Now, Sweeney has done fairly well with his trades in the past, so he could surprise me. And maybe I’m overvaluing Marco Rossi. Let me know in the comments what you think and if the Bruins even have a shot at trading for Marco Rossi. That’s a wrap on today’s video. Yeah I don’t see it happening.
The bruins really have nothing to give up really.
This is an interesting one.
I followed Vegas up through their playoff exit- the Wild radio guys talked about Rossi.
They didn't seem to have much respect for Guerin regarding his messing with Rossi. But I didn't really know what I was listening to at that time. Now I'm getting it.
(I look up players while listening to games. I thought Rossi might've been injured and they brought him back on a lower line at first? We all know that's wrong)
Can you explain why B's would trade Rossi for mittelstadt?
Casey's PPG average is a bit better than Marco.
Casey also has 4 inches on Marco.
Is one a better two-way player?
I don't know either player well enough to assess the difference. The stats are similar.
Guerin painted himself into a corner putting Rossi on 4th line for playoffs.
He's already been on the trade block. I thought the Bruins were talking about him a coupla years ago? (Maybe not)
No takers for a center?
Does he have bad manners or body odor in the locker room?
Not get along with his teammates?
Something smells…
👃
I hope Rossi finds job security somewhere. As long as it's not with leafs or Panthers 😄
I'd proceed with caution on this one.
But, I liked the Charlie Coyle trade coming from Minnesota. Don't know if Guerin was Wild GM at the time
Thanks Court – we'll see how this one plays out.
✌️
Should the Bruins trade for Marco Rossi?
We have nothing to give up. How about Swayman for Rossi!!!
I would only do it for Mittlestat and Lysell.
Cannot give the #7 pick…he is very good, but not worth selling the farm…
don't do it!!!
Why would an AAV of 7 million translate to compensation for based on a 12 million dollar figure
I’ve never heard that calculation before for RFA offer sheet compensation
Seeing how bad Sweeney fleeced Guerin in the Brazeau trade….Minny might not be too excited about trading with Boston again. Although, there is a decent trade history between these Don and Billy, so maybe there's a chance. Middlestadt definitely needs to be part of any package going the other way, but he'd be more of a throw-in, and not a play the package is built around. I agree; I just dont' see Boston having the assets to pull this off, unless they start throwing in draft picks; which would be a mistake….especially not anything to do with next year's first rounder
14 milion? Nonsense.
Yes please. I'm a big fan of Rossi who I feel can become a PPG player and boy would he look good as a 2C. However, his contract demands are a bit much for what he's done thus far. EDIT: The Wild aren't interested in a defenseman, because they're pretty set there.
Agreed. I'm putting on my temp Panther's fan hat tomorrow and hoping Marchand gets another cup. Reminds me a little of when Bourque left.
Sweeney doesn't really have a history of giving generous contracts. Anything could change but out of character
He's a valuable player, but I cannot see anyone giving him an offer sheet that puts them over that $12 mil threshold and 4 firsts.
I am not sure the WILD are looking to get Middlestadt back, so, I am not sure what kind of trade they'd be open to.
Personally, I'd like to avoid sending Poitras and Lohrei (Definitely like to see Lohrei stay) out to Minn.
I think the price is too high for Rossi. I would not recommend that the Bruins do the trade.
Seems like a high price tag for a guy you also need to commit 7×7 to.?
Not sure he moves the needle enough to go all in on. Better to spend on Ehlers or Marner and give up no assets???maybe? Appreciate the content to keep us thinking about the future.
I think Rossi would look good for the Bruins, but….. what would they have to give up for him? The price short term and long term could be prohibitive as the Bruins need to hold onto draft picks and restock their prospect pool. Also I think Mason Lohrei should be off the table in trade talks unless the return is quite good. I can see him as a puck advancing building block for the Bruins' defense for the future. In addition, 7 years for 49 million? Rossi may be worth this but can the Bruins afford this ? Well, we'll see how trade talks proceed. Sweeney and the Bruins need to be careful and cautious here.
Watched a highlite reel of Rossi .. seems to have a good nose around the net, good wrist shot from the slot and face-off circles. Don't know about his face-off prowess. I would say he's worth a hard look.
dont know enough about him but hope hes big fast and gritty
Minus 17 mittlestadt needs to go plus?? I would take rossi 100% but not sure guerin would take what we have
We need all the Marcos we can get
I'd say no. Cost to acquire him too prohibitive. Additionally, size matters when it comes to the centre position.
What about Necas or Nicholas Hague as potential targets?
Both a year away from UFA status.
Not for giving up Poit and Big Red!!
Depends, if they put the first round pick on the table for him… not a great idea in my opinion.
I hope they don't trade Lohrei. So much potential. He has vision in the offensive zone so coach him up defensively. You may be over valuing Rossi because it's still a salary cap league. Wild wouldn't be paying 7 million and get back good draft selections? Never know.
Not another middle six center 😭😭
