Would love to know why they decide to squat so high, considering how many knee injuries occur in the sport
Absolute TANK!
Legend joe give that scrum some shit tomorrow
it’s not about weights and how much, fast hands, minds and feet
Go on Joe – take that to the RWC – not sure the spot would have helped
R.O.M
Ha anyone could do that he's not even bending his knees. Complete waste of time squatting like that. Looks impressive but really isn't.
Maybe we should spend more time on handling and attack moves. How often do you squat a man in a game?
That's far to heavy for him?
Rom is obviously not full depth but they have got good strength and conditioning coaches who have reasons for each specific exercise.
This is still heavy. Maybe preparing cns for full depth?
Crazy strength not, its a partial squat to a platform
Half reps
My lord, you armchair coaches who think you know better than professional strength and conditioning coaches are embarrassing.
Let's clear it up…
Range of motion is great for overall health and strength. They will also do lighter sets with full ROM (specifically for knee and tibialis strength).
But in this clip they are specifically training to be strong in the top half of the movement, not the bottom.
Why? Because that transfers to rugby more practically. When running, scrummaging, pushing etc often the leg is a position that is in the range of the top half of a squat.
Being very strong in the bottom of the movement isn't the priority for rugby players, it's a position they're rarely in.
Any good strength and conditioning will tell you the same.
Look at LeBron James doing the same, heavy, but not full range of motion, as that transfers better to jumping for basketball.
So take a day off fellas. Go back to your Netflix and ice cream, stop pretending you're a pro S&C coach.
That's barely a half squat.
all power no speed.
Concentrate on the Rugby. Too much gym-emphasis in the academies has produced a conveyor belt of wooden players with zero sidestepping abilities and no idea how to create and manipulate space
How you divide 230 kg if the bar is 10 kg and you got 5 weight.. is impossible. 😮
For anyone not familiar, these are called box squats. No you dont need to go 90 degrees or lower when you do them, he's not in a powerlifting competition.
Maybe do full rep
No rep
*half squat
Awesome, but might as well take some weight off and go lower to get maximum muscle stretch/tension
Joes my hero and a beast just sad that he’s hurt his foot but he will recover he’s a beast keep it up Joe
Walked past Joe at Bestival 2024, absolute unit.
box squat*
Do a real squat.
high bar, naked knee, full range has better carry over than this deep knee bend.
