Laf hasn’t lived up to the hype and he never will.
He can still get better and be a very good player in the NHL.

The NHL tried to screw the Red Wings and the Wings got a way better player in Lucas Raymond . . .
Let's compare him to Kaapo Kakko. Kakko was drafted 2nd overall, but never lived up to the hype. His best season he had 40 points in 82 games. The Rangers then traded him to Seattle where he had 30 points in 49 games. So he's played better for Seattle then he ever played for the Rangers. Maybe Lafreniere just needs a change of scenery
How about this for a trade: Alexis Lafreniere goes to Montreal for Juraj Slafkovsky? Both players are former 1st overall picks. Both players have almost identical cap hits (Lafreniere 7.45 million until 2032. Slafkovsky 7.6 million until 2033) Both players are coming off similar seasons (45 points for Lafreniere, 51 points for Slafkovsky). Both players have shown flashes of brilliance, but have struggled as well. The Rangers get a player that's bigger and two years younger. The Canadiens get a Quebec native player who in my opinion has a higher ceiling (though that's debatable. I'm going by Lafreniere's playoff performance where he put up 14 points in 16 playoff games last season). I think this trade works for both teams. Time to mix things up
Kids who never experienced adversity tend to peak to early because they are always better. Kids who struggle early on tend to keep chasing and doesnt get satisfied. They keep working.
