ELIAS PETTERSSON TRADE UPDATE: BUFFALO SABRES TALKS W/ CANUCKS?
[Music] David Pota. Oh, it’s always David Pota, isn’t it? Okay, maybe it’s not always him. It’s a bunch of guys usually in the NHL rumor mill that give us the scoops and the big bad wolfs of topics to dive into here on this show. Let’s go over to the latest from yesterday. David Pota’s the fourth period.com the start of Stanley Cup final means start of silly season and silly season indeed because you might have seen yesterday hard pivot but one of the conversations that we had on yesterday’s morning show was about the Buffalo Sabres and how a bunch of guys potentially a quarter of the whole team they were upset with the direction that the Sabres were going down and we could see names like Owen Power, Alex Tuck, and others enter the trade market over the next few days. It was a possibility here. Now, we are diving into silly season because when it comes to that Sabres team, well, this is what Pyota writes about. The Sabres, who brought in Yarmmo Kalinan as a senior adviser, will be an intriguing team to watch in the weeks ahead. With multiple players uneased with the team’s lack of advancement, there is an opportunity for Kkalinan and Kevin Adams to be active. It’s time the organization takes the next steps in its progression. We have already reported Bowen Byum is in play again in Buffalo. Ahead of the trade deadline, names like Power, Purka, and Tuck were also tossed around as the vulture circled their prey. Is there more of a willingness to make bold moves now? I’m curious to see if the Sabers circle back on Elias Patterson in Vancouver. Oh, this is a lot to take in, isn’t it? The article then talks about Person, how he’s 26 and his no movement clause kicks in on July 1st and how the Vancouver Conucks are probably going to go out there and still entertain trade calls. It doesn’t sound like the price tag has changed much, if at all. So, a team will have to pay up to pry him out of BC. Do the Sabres take another swing? They surely won’t be the lone team to try. The article then talks about Demco and Besser. And it’s kind of interesting because the way that Pñota writes these articles, it’s almost like a fullon unfiltered train of thought. He just talks about a team, then links a player to that team, and then starts talking about the next team, and then goes down the list and talks about some other teams. Oh, Marner, Tiveras, Maple Leaf, Speaking of Vegas, the Golden Knights, stuff like that. It’s really interesting. But when you read it, you dive into it, you think about the idea of Person being a saber or Person being targeted by the Sabers. I’m just kind of maybe a little bit sad for Elias Patterson. Or I don’t know, maybe I’m sad in general. You know, it’s a rainy day here in Vancouver. The mood’s not great, especially when you start thinking about star Vancouver Conucks players being targeted by terrible hockey teams. If Elias Patterson were to go to the Buffalo Sabres, firstly, he would get away from a lot of the pressure here. I don’t think the Sabres have the same pressure cooker environment like the Vancouver Conucks do. Even though I know the dieards are potentially maybe even more so, vehemently against the ownership on that team than Canucks fans are when it comes to Aqualini. I do think that both of these fan bases share the same ownership regret or ownership disdain, but Buffalo’s might just be a little bit stronger here. With that in mind, though, I still think that even though that aspect of the fan sentiment is depicted the way it is, I don’t think Person would have the same pressure in Buffalo compared to Vancouver, especially since he wouldn’t be like the only top tier forward superstar on that team. He would be with Ta Thompson. He would be maybe with a JJ Purka. Heck, you got Raasmus Dalene on the back end. That guy is the absolute number one. So Person would be going over to Buffalo not as a absolute most important player caliber guy on that team. And I think he can thrive a lot more if he’s not being tossed over all that pressure. Although of course it’s difficult to say that because he’ll still be making the dollar amount that he’s making. It’s just the Buffalo Sabres, man. Do they have the assets to get it done with Vancouver? Are the Vancouver Canucks going to make a trade for Person thinking that they’ll be a better team afterwards? They’re already short on centers. They already have some vulnerability with Filipedle. They already are going to lose PS. They can’t go into the season with an idea that says that Teddy Bluger is their topline center or a top six center even. There needs to be at least a top center coming back to Vancouver. And I saw some people talking about, oh, Patterson for Byum, one for one. Like, no, that’s not going to work. The Vancouver Canucks don’t need more defensemen. Nor do they need guys particularly on the left side of the defense with Pey, Pey, Mancini, Hughes, Heronic, and Meyers. Their decor is pretty much set here. They don’t need more defensemen. That’s not even including Tom Vander. So for Elias Person, if any trade is going to get done, the Vancouver Conucks might have to swing a multi-tiered layer deal here. They trade Person either for a center in Buffalo. I’m not saying Tage Thompson goes, but let’s just say for the sake of making things interesting, it’s Tage Thompson, then okay, I can get behind that idea. Two guys who have underperformed to some capacity. Of course though, I think Person might have been more underperforming in that respect. But if the Sabres aren’t willing to send over a Tae Thompson-l like asset, then it might have to be a trade for some draft picks and some prospects and then Vancouver flips those assets to another team to get the center that they want. It becomes a lot more complicated than that and it’s like, hey, why not just trade Peterson for the center that you want in the first place? But if it’s kind of tiered up, you think about different assets, you get different values from each of these teams, then it becomes a little easier to digest that. I think if you get Person off, you trade him for, let’s say, a JJ Purka and I don’t know, a first round pick or something and another prospect and then you flip that first round pick and another prospect for the center, then all of a sudden you get JJ Purka and the center that you’re looking for. Maybe you won’t be able to get a center at the caliber of Elias Person. You’re not really going to get any 100 point guys for just a prospect and a draft pick. But JJ Purka help on the wing. The Brock Besser replacement right there. That is interesting. There are a number of avenues the Canucks can do to mix and match their way in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres. I just don’t really know if it’s all too feasible here. There has to be some sort of a bigger picture, longer term plan over the next few weeks here if Patrick Alvine is going to decide to trade away Elias Person and not get a top tier center in some sort of a trade return package. Either that or they have to be super confident that they can sign a guy like a Sam Bennett or whatever in the off season. And who knows if that guy is even capable of being a topline number one center over the next however many years his contract is going to be. So with all that in mind, that’s just kind of a jumbled mess of a word salad here in this video. I want you to let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. How do you feel about the idea of Person getting traded to Buffalo? What are your thoughts on David Penota writing about how this could be possible here? And what are your thoughts on just the overall update? Person, Demco, Besser. This article has a whole bunch. So, I’m going to leave a link in the description if you want to read that yourself. But for now, let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. Pey to Buffalo. Yay or nay. I hope you enjoyed this roll. And bye. [Music] [Music]

Just what Buffalo needs a 133lb centre man. EP would make Benson look like Tom Wilson.
Yep… let Petey go… he cannot “grow” in Vancouver anymore than he has… whether that is about being a better player or a person… we have seen his maturity or lack there of😢
Trade him! Trade him! Trade him!
I think it would be terrible for Canucks but great for Buffalo.
For EP40 it does not really matter since he is world class wither way.
Plus he can play with Dahlin. And that dude….well….he is insane.
Tage Thompson Tuch and multiple draft picks . Pettersson and throw in garland.
Pettersson’s trade value is at an all time low. You don’t trade players when that’s the case, you wait for it to increase. He needs another good season under his belt to show he can do it beforehand. If they traded him for chump change that would just be bad management. Fans can complain all they want, the reality is we are here now and there’s not much we can do about it. If Hughes leaves that’s his own choice… Chances are he had decided that long before this drama happened.
If the Sabres trade for a soft, declining player with bad knees and a $11.6M cap hit, they are total idiots.
Not sure what you are talking about. With is $11.6 million dollar contract, he'll be or supposed to be the main player. That's going to always be expected from that kind of money no matter where. But It's up to management to think if he's going to get back to form or not. If not, trade him for players that will help the team.
Petey is NOT what the sabres need… Oh yeah, he can be a big time scorer.. but 1 scorer on an already decent scoring team is NOT going to get this team over the hump… the only position that will fix this team is Goalie.. because that is the 1 position/player that can improve single handedly keeping the puck out of their own net on a team that is bottom 5 in goals against. No change there and we could bring in Sid the kid and Ovi in their primes.. and still not make the playoffs… So many times over the last few decades I've not just the Sabres, but other teams as well think that 1 player will fix them… We would love to find that lightning in a bottle that we got with Dom Hasek back in the 90's… that team couldn't score very often.. but with Dom, neither could the other guys.. Now we have the opposite problem.. we can score… but we also can't stop the other guys.. and too many think the D-Corp is the problem… a great defense with a poor goalie still equals HIGH GAA..
Tage led all centers in even strength goals this year
Trading him while is trade value is tanking would be the ultimate Vancouver move. He was 100+ point player just 1 season ago. His market value driooed because of the drama around him this year. Let him try to rebuild his value this year under a new coach… then, next year, if you still feel the same way, then you trade him with a higher (hopefully) return
11.6 mill, do whatever you can do to dump him before you can’t! He’s likely only worth 7 million on the trade market but!!🤷🏻
8:01 well since you asked Lego if we trade Patterson it might be the best Canada Day Ever 🇨🇦🎉🎉🎉🎉
My thought is if the Canucks are in 'win now' mode, the trade would involve Willander for a Sabers winger. Canucks need 3 dangerous forwards to be competitive next year. And the Sabre's have great left side defensemen, but the right side is weak. If we aren't thinking long term, I would be good with trade package that involved a Peterka or Tuch. More moves would be required during the summer, but this would be start.
Petey to Buffalo or anywhere else for any assets is a go. Be warned Petey is a 130 point beast if healthy. The only way for he and Demko to get into playing health is the carnivore diet. The steal of the century is to acquire both of them now while their contracts are under water and force them both on a carnivorous diet as a condition of employment and that G.M. will look like a genius when both of those super stars get healthy and perform up to their own lofty expectations. No carnivore diet = the end of their once promising careers.
Lego Lego…wheres your business thinking dude.
Trade for a good dman and flip that player for a forward.
Buffalo isn’t a good trade partner for Vancouver. Buffalo has a solid center group already, had extra LD and need a RD. Vancouver doesn’t have pieces to offer for the pieces Buffalo is willing to move.
They are not trading TT for Pettersson. Norris and a 2nd for Pettersson
Man
EP40 and a 2nd
For
Power & 1st
This would 100% let you trade a dean for a centr and the 1st keep while trading the canucks 15th pick for another centre.
Give you generational depth at D and enough cap to pay for Marner a proven dude who loves the spotlight
Petterson is very far from being the number 1 guy in Vancouver
Highest paid in this case does not mean best player on Vancouver Canucks
He deserves to go to Buffalo
Does Buffalo have the assets!?
Tags for Pettey!?
What are you smoking
Tage for Petterson +++ more like it.
EP40 is tainted damaged goods.
Takes 2 to be toxic don’t put all the blame on Miller and the whole league knows it
The fact “Pettey” can’t get along with the Sedins should tell you all you need to know about his character
They have more assets than Vancouver
They trade petey im done with this franchise trading a player that hasnt even hit his prime yet actually insane
This is the most Buffalo trade of all time.
Byram, Krebs, and a 1st
