@Dallas Stars

This is how you get fired in the NHL

Last night as the Dallas Stars faced elimination against the Edmonton Oilers in game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, we witnessed a truly strange situation in the first 7 minutes of the game. The Stars gave up 2 goals on the first 2 shots faced from the Oilers as Pete DeBoer called time out. However, as the Oettinger and the Stars went back out, DeBoer angrily called back Oettinger and pulled him from the game. Again, in an elimination game. He chose to play DeSmith who hadn’t played in over month over his starting number 1 goalie in Oettinger. Now Oettinger hadn’t played amazingly, but the Stars as a whole hadn’t. Neither of the opening goals were Oettinger’s fault as Corey Perry scored on the powerplay all alone in front and then Janmark minutes later on a break away. It was extremely odd but worse than that, DeBoer completely threw Oettinger under the bus in the post game interview. In my opinion, this is absolutely a fireable offence but we will see what direction the Dallas Stars decide to go. As for the Oilers, they will now meet the Florida Panthers in the Stanley cup final for the 2nd year in a row! I cover it all in todays NHL hockey video.

  1. My apologies for the lack of coverage during this third round. The NHL has been increasingly claiming videos again which forces me to focus more energy on working around their copyright claims than on trying to make quality videos I can be proud of. This gets frustrating and leads to it just not being worth it at a certain point. Just felt I owed you an explanation!

  2. Terribly poor treatment from a coach towards his #1.
Re: FLA vs EDM, I say FLA in 5. They're just too good. I know its a bold prediction, and it's easier to say Panthers in 6 or 7, but I'm gonna say 5 because when the Panthers lose, they find solutions immediately following, and most teams don't stand a chance. The McDavid factor is so huge. Without McDavid it's a sweep, easy 4-0. Again, in my opinion. Panthers in 5. I'm confident now lol

  3. Lets be real. Only people to blame for this is prolly the coaching staff. Oettinger was arguably dallas best player other than maybe rantanen through the first 2 series. Dallas should fire the coach.

  4. What a dick move by DeBoer, especially the press conference. I hope he understands to resign before he gets fired. A coach should defend his team and have sportsmanship.

  5. Not a fan of either team, but to blame otter for the series is actually crazy. Dallas did not play the way they needed to against a hungry and pissed off mcdavid. He wants that cup and he wants it BAD. Look out Florida…

  6. I am aware that this is like a Do or Die for Dallas so I can see why you pull him because of the early two goals but at the same time it’s like they’re only two if you would’ve let in another goal and then I can understand then definitely get him out of there, but I was really surprised that they pulled him that early.

  7. In soccer, coaches never pull the goalies (unless injured) because it destroys their confidence, and goalkeeping is such a mentally demanding role, that if you lose confidence, you will make big mistakes.

  8. He’s LOST = YOU LOST COACH YOU SUCK YOU SHOULD BE THE COACH OF A BUNCH OF IDIOTS LIKE YOU ! Don’t know anything about hockey 🥅

  9. I'd fire him. Seriously. I don't care how many games the guys managed to win in spite of him being behind the bench! It says so much about what kind of team he's trying to build. Horrible decision.

  10. I don't know man, I can't fault a coach for trying a goalie change when doing the same thing saved the Oilers against the Kings. I guess it's different when you're married to a goalie with a big cap hit and there are bigger expectations for them with teams like Dallas and Winnipeg. Bottom line Oettinger wasn't good enough most games.

His post game comments about Jake were pretty out of pocket though. I think they replace Deboer too but only because he can't get past the conference finals, not because of his comments. I think the players are professional enough to shrug that stuff off.

  11. Calling players out in the media is a major no-no for a coach. You will lose all respect of the team if you go there. He has to be removed.

  12. Reminded me of when I was a pee-wee and some whiney crybaby would blame the goalie. The guys would rip him a new one and the coach would bench him.

  13. Bourque only had that high-sticking penalty because Bouchard watched the stick and let it hit him in the face. Bouchard drew that penalty when Mavrik turned to play for the puck.

  14. As a Stars fan, I hated the hire of DeBoer as I knew his track record. His teams always fold in the penultimate games. I also believe that contract they signed Otter signed might become an albatross as the years go by, but I understand the reasoning, Stars have been looking for a great tender since Marty Turco. Otter didn't lose this series, the passive, weak team defense did. I hope they have a decent roster purge as they have way too many pretty boys who don't play with the grit and nastiness needed to win championships.

  15. desperation might be too strong a word, but the coach (and anyone watching) could see that Dallas was not getting the bounces, so it didn't matter who was in goal. MIght as well try the other guy and see if that makes a difference.

  16. Oettinger is about to go sign with a much better team. How can he say “he” lost 6-7 games. We all watched the series your entire team didn’t show up!

  17. Looks good on Oettinger, particularly after his brain dead comments about Hellebuyck in the Winnipeg series.

  18. imo you either pull the goalie or call a time out not both at once when its your team not the goalie. Otteinger should have started the 2nd period too…..oilers fan who knows goalie struggles
