Oilers Chase Oettinger; Eliminate Stars in 5 Games

The Edmonton Oilers win Game 5 of the NHL Western Conference Final 6-3 over the Dallas Stars. Edmonton scored on their first two shots of the game and Dallas coach Pete DeBoer pulled goalie Jake Oettinger for Casey DeSmith. I have thoughts. Edmonton goal scorers, Corey Perry, Mattias Janmark, Jeff Skinner, Connor McDavid, Evander Kane and Kasperi Kapanen added an empty netter. Scoring for Dallas, Jason Robertson with 2 and Roope Hintz,

Former NHL Video Coach, Steve “Petey” Peters goes to the video to break down this game in easy-to-understand presentation. See the plays that make the play and see all the details needed to score a goal in the NHL. Things happen so fast in the game of hockey, Petey slows them down so you can see what you might have missed.

  1. Ever since Davo broke down after G7 in last year's SCF in the locker room, the look on every Oiler's face looks different. They're on a mission. Gonna be a great SCF.

  2. I have no problem with pulling Oettinger in the first (a timeout should not have been called if you are pulling the goalie, it was wasted). But, he should have been put back in goal in the second period. Very strange call by DeBoer. But, in the end, Oil win, so I am good with it 🙂

  3. How dumb are people not realizing that the high stick on Bouchard was an obvious response to the slash on Hintz. They put him in hoping that a noobie could sneak that in and get away with it, a sacrificial lamb. There is no way he is just “lazy with his stick” and doesnt know Bouchard’s face is right there. Get real people.

  4. Nicely done of the break down of the goals and a peek at the system of play each team was using. The Kane goal is to once again remind everyone hockey isn't always fair. Everyone did their job correctly yet it found it's way into the net. Take a breath and line up at center.. Thanks Petey..

  5. Feel like your commentating has become way more even depending on which team's successes/failures you are talking about. Appreciate the videos a lot more because of it!

  6. Your review of the games is spot on, it’s like hearing everything the Sportsnet announcers can’t say because they can’t.

  7. Great breakdowns, honestly never much to add that you don't already cover. The first penalty on Bourque was so unfortunate, I know you have to control your stick but it caught a few chin hairs. I would have liked to see an unsportsmanlike call on Bouchard for the over the top sell job. Tough way to start.

  8. Hey coach, maybe you could answer this for me. All series long it seemed when the Stars were able to establish a fore check, they went in 3 high, often with at least 1 Dman cheating for offense. How could coach DeBoer not realize that the Oilers D were moving the puck past the forecheckers efficiently, leading to multiple odd man rushes, FOR THE OILERS OF ALL TEAMS? Why was there no adjustments?

  9. Debour was right. Ottenger is trash. Got outplayed by an ahl goalie 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 lmfao

  10. Petey, do you find fault with Dallas playing man on man D? I am wondering if this might be one reason Deboar coached teams can’t break thru. As the better teams get to the later rounds they have players that can beat their cover man one on one & expose that system. Reason I say this is because 3yrs ago it is how vegas beat the oil. The next season the oil adapted to a zone D system and they are much more sound defensively now.

  11. Great breakdown coach! One of my favorite channels to watch after the games. Keep up the good work! Subscribed
