The team has a lot of excellent young players and the defense got better. They need better luck when it comes to injuries which would lead to more goals.

Injuries crushed momentum—Devils just couldn’t finish chances.
NJD made a good run. No shame.
Devils will get Quinn this summer along with either Peterka or Rossi and will be a wagon next yr
you forgot kovacevic just signed his extension at the deadline and glass is a rfa acquired at the deadline
devils need a retool of the bottom 6 and a 2nd line winger, what killed the devils other than injuries was a lack of depth scoring, the bottom 6 just didnt produce they way they should have, and when the top 2 lines struggled the team usually got shutout.
no. Lack of character derailed them.
Utica comets did pretty decent in round one, in hindsight
I was kind of hoping fans and players on NJ would somehow blame their coach for lack of play-off success, fire Sheldon and have him go to Anaheim somehow ^_^. But…I can dream I guess.
Shannon, did you do a video yet on Anaheim's new coach? I'm definitely not happy about it.
Devils hired Greg Ackerman off the Seattle Mariners a couple weeks ago specifically for injury prevention so hopefully that helps
Their 5 on 5 play fell apart at both ends of the ice after Christmas. The were below NHL .500 after Christmas before injuries could be the major reason. Teams figured out how to pressure the Devils on their side of the red line and the Devil's grit and shot blocking game got less intense. Their bottom 6 forward group did nothing all season, Haula's game collapsed and he might have aged out of being a capable 3C.
If it weren't for spectacular special teams, very good goaltending and playing in a soft division they would have missed the playoffs again.
Markstrom's numbers are hurt because of a series of rough starts after returning from an injury, from Thanksgiving to mid January he was one of the best goalies in hockey.
91 points is the lowest point total ever to earn a 3rd place seed in the present playoff seeding system. It was tied with Montreal and would have put them in 10th place in the West.
Tom Fitzgerald is culpable, the problem is more than injuries (playoff blueline injuries is not his fault. He paid extra for cap sharing on Markstrom (why no first this season) and DuMoulin at the deadline and did not end up using this because he let the market pass him.
Devils fans have to be the most reactionary bandwagoners in the nhl…maybe just below Toronto. I dont think any team went and won the cup after having a couple good seasons. Every team deals with injuries to young players, every team takes time to mature and put the right team together…
The devils are in a fantastic spot for the future, no need to tear everything down now because of a couple bumps in the road.
Thanks, Shannon! another quality video. Bastian has to go, I time my fridge runs to when he is on the ice because when he is there, the Devils are practically guaranteed not to score. in fact, Imo, Bastian, Lazar, Dowling, Tatar, Dumoulin, and Allen should be let go. Allen played well but Daws needs to grow and is on a cheap contract and Sprong had moments and is probably 50/50 to return. Finally, Lazar was not the same after his injury, if the team thinks he was not 100% all season, I could see them taking a flyer on him for $1 mill.
Let be my devils ! ❤❤❤
Any chance you’ll tackle the debacle that was the 2024-25 NYR? What happened in your estimation?

Trade Dougie and be willing to eat a portion of salary in order to do so. Palat ( bad contract decision ) popular with teammates but must go either by trade or buyout. 50/50 on keeping Haula; maybe keep him and see if he bounces back. NJD are already short of centers and he at least is decent with FOs. Dump McDermid ( worse contract decision ) into Utica to lose his salary. Tartar moves on as UFA. I’d probably keep Bastian but at very low salary and short contract.
The really tough decisions are the Hughes brothers. Try to negotiate a short bridge contract with Luke. Once Jack is cleared to play….don’t play him. Force him to add bulk before he re-enters the line up. If he can stay in the line up, see what Canucks want for Quinn and arbitrage Luke staying with bargain contract so they can afford Quinn and unite all 3 brothers. If Jack is injured again, get what you can get and trade him. With that contract, someone will bite.
Hamilton’s injury and playoff performance history compared to his contract is an albatross around NJD neck.
The problem with NJ is that, like a lot of teams, they're good enough to make it, but they're not good enough to win it. They have a few good players, but let's be honest, nobody on that team will take time to the big times.
I think they should explore trading Dougie Hamilton. I think it’s time you move forward building up Luke Hughes as the #1 and Nemec becomes full time
I was kind of shocked at the depth of injuries to the D by the playoffs. Hughes has to stay healthy but he is not the entire team. Need some bigger faster guys who can score goals.
Need to mention Eric Haula as well. He does not carry an insignificant cap hit at over 3 million. He has a modified NTC after July 1 so he can be moved. And considering his point total this year should be.
Gritsyuk signing has the potential to be a big add for the Devils. He has an elite shot and shifty hands.
Silayev will not be coming to NJ until next KHL season ends, and I do think he will come to NJ when that happens. With him, Nemec and Casey all in the pipeline, and basically the entire defense locked up over multiple years, I think it’s safe to say one or more could be traded in a blockbuster trade in the near future.
Jesper Brett was undersold in this video. He set the Devils franchise assist record this season and likely would have had significantly more had Hughes finished the season. He is critically under valued and could be one of the best players in The NHL already.
Marner?
As a devils fan thus season was a roller coaster for sure. Before the christmas break they looked like they could make a serious run this year but then the new year hit and even before injuries showed problems with depth scoring. If anything positive is to come from this season is that Nico Hischier is a superstar in the making and the devils must do everything they can to build a cup contending team centered around him. The hughes brothers are great and all but nico is the literal heartbeat of this team
