I really enjoyed watching the Leafs this year. Florida has a better game of getting away with illegal hits combined with a better mental game and better shots on goal numbers. If Florida hadn't concussed the Leaf's best player, Stollarz, we might have had a better chance.

You only need to look at Shanahans time here, he hired Dubas, who screwed up badly, i didnt like the Tavares signing, it did exactly what i thought would, put the Leafs in cap hell, where Dubas was making deals only to meet cap restrictions, not to improve the team, and then he wormed his way out of town leaving a mess to be fixed. I think Tre' and Berube should stay on, they cannot be blamed for the mess the team is, they have to work with, and try to fix, what they have inherited, all those no trade contracts are going to be difficult to work around.

It's pretty clear to me that Matthews isn't and never was captain material. He's a good player, but not stock that you could make captain of the team. Talent and popularity, and leadership don't perfectly overlap.
Ultimately, the problem may actually be the ownership.
Shanahan doesn't seem to bring new ideas or a new plan to run this Leafs ship. So we need a new President with a proven perspective. Daryl Sittler or a Wendell Clark might be a good fit for the job. We need some one with a track record to help this team. Otherwise Lou Lamorella should be brought back as President of Hockey Operations

Leafs fans forget how bad this organization was pre-shanahan. He helped to literally turn this team around and make it a given that they are in the playoffs every year.
Do I believe his time is up, yes, I think paying that much money to four players is a failed experience and it’s time to move on. However, I am very pleased that Treliving and Bérubé are here and I am interested to see how Treliving handles the cap space gained from Marner leaving and the cap going up. It’s terrible the way they lost, but they did take the Stanley cup champions to game seven, keep that in mind.
If you work hard and lose, there is no shame. If you look flat and look like your not trying. Shame on you.
Rielly and Nylander need to go. They were the weakest link in the chain.
So what MLSE will hear from Shanahan is that the Leafs were one of the most successful teams in the regular season over the last 8 years. They have been near the top of the standings and were "guaranteed" a playoff spot. Each of the Core 4 has had tremendous individual stats in that same period. More importantly, team revenues have been excellent.
They will be told the "flat cap" made obtaining suitable pieces to support the Core 4 impossible. With the cap going up, the team will be able to continue this year's trend and build a stronger playoff team. Blowing up the Core 4 is not a guarantee the team will be better and presents a great risk of being substantially weaker.

Shanahan should have been canned along with Dubas and Keefe after that gutless demoralizing loss to the Canadiens in the playoffs. Leafs upper management are collective bunch of ignorant buffoons. I blame their stupidity on hiring Shanahan with ZERO experience along with that dolt Dubass another chooch with zero experience getting one of the most important prestigious jobs in the NHL. Just complete and utter moronic stupidity by the Leafs.
Leafs problems in the playoffs have been very apparent for years . Florida is the best team in the Atlantic. Until they can ice a team to compete wit Florida , the Leafs will never get past the 2nd round . This is not physics , just common fact.
My take was this playoff round fixed, to have two home games Lose 6-1, kind of fishy don’t you think. Also an elbow to the goalie, 😡 and no call for a penalty

Marner can go play shinny during the regular season and rack up meaningless goals and assists when nothing is truly on the line. Cons playoffs sorts the boys from the men. He has NEVER stepped and Every player knows that he puts even Inge Hamerstrom to shame as he avoids all contact by staying clear of the front of the opposition net and god forbid he ventures into the corner and actually comes away with the puck. Rack up a million points per season amounts to a hill of beans when he turtles come playoff time. Wave good bye to a true wimp and someone who has NO loyalty to his Team and the fan base. Babcock got fired because a number of these so called heroes refused to be accountable or sadly didn’t have the gonads to be Real men when it mattered most. They got Babs fired and they are still wimps and want the glory and just the money. He will NEVER be a Warrior!!
Matthews has to go as he is not as obvious but made from a similar cloth. Almost twins and to rep as the Captain is an embarrassment to the Real men and Warriors on the Leaf team. How could anyone follow these pair into battle in a 7th winner take all, game!! Their attitude brought the entire team down. Dubas destroyed the potential for the Leafs years ago and Shanahan is directly the blame for this debacle. Lots to clear out!!

IMO Leafs ownership isn't really focussed on winning. They are focussed on making money. The Leafs ca continue to improve the bootom line whithout winning so they don't care. They will likely do something, but it will be focussed on continuing to make money, not winning. IF they were serious about winning, they would have done something significant a few years ago. Everyone n the league, including Leafs owenership knows you can't build a winning team with so much cap space tied up in a few players especially when they are so soft they can't rise to the style of play required in the playoffs.
Marner has become a scape goat. The problem is far too deep. Even after Marner leaves, this team will not accomplish any success.
The core 4 need to be split up, maybe even traded.
