  1. The Blackhawks will regret not making this trade. They drafted Commesso which was probably the 4th best goalie in the draft behind Askarov, Bednar, and Blomqvist. That is their weakness, and in the future ultimately their downfall

  2. Well the penguins have definitely made the move to get younger no question and to save money. The local sports broadcast channel isn't even mentioning the fact that Murray could have been lost to Seattle in the expansion draft. Then we could have got nothing for him. This is a trade that's going to be good for both teams but will benefit Ottawa sooner

  3. Murray's gonna be great in the regular season for them, I'm not so sure about playoffs in the Atlantic though. Problem with Murray is that glove is pretty exploitable and he's going to a pretty forward heavy division

  4. Not at all where i thought murray would go. Does his shots against sky rocket this year i wonder? Their forward group is so bare looking

  5. As a pens fan I am completely okay with this trade. that was probably the best trade offer we got from any team. doesn’t help that the goalie market is so flooded.

  6. This is a great deal for both sides. Pittsburgh got a good return for a player they may have lost for nothing and Ottawa gets a solid a goalie. I just cant get too excited for the Sens, even with the draft, knowing ownership doesn't want to spend money.

  7. I think this trade is good for all parties involved. Pittsburgh doesn’t lose Murray or Jarry (due to expansion)for nothing, Ottawa Gets a capable netminder, and most importantly Murray gets a fresh start.

  8. Murray's glove hand and rebound control are downright awful. I thought this trade was just about even. Murray wasn't under contract so there was no way the Pens were going to get anymore than a 2nd for him.

  9. The man who singlehandedly stopped Ottawa from going to the cup final, is now a Senator… I don't know how to feel about this.

  10. Murray wants 7 years for 7 million per has been asking for it all year, all off season, is hell bent on getting it, and he's not worth it, in his own mind he is, I wish the dude well for the 2 cups but the past couple of years he hasn't been 7 years 7 million worthy.

  11. Hopefully Matt Murray isnt Niemi 2.0. His story is similar. Hes not been great since pens dipped a bit and didnt have Fleury as a safety blanket. Now hes gonna turn his game around on our rebuilding team? Hmm.

  12. Murray got off to a hot start in his career because there really wasn't a book on him. Fleury was around long enough that you knew what his strengths and weaknesses were, and Murray was a good change of pace. BUT Murray's glove hand was (and still is) weak, he couldn't poke check like Fleury, his lateral movement wasn't as good as Fleury's either, and his puck movement and rebound control aren't as good as Jarry's. That's the book on Murray now. Is he going to go to the Sens and all those problems are going to dissappear? No. In his cup years with the Pens, he had MUCH better defenses than the Senators do. He'll be "ok" in Ottawa, he's RARELY going to steal a game, he's NOT going to be the next Martin Brodeur, but he's not going to be the next Rick DiPietro either.

  13. Pens trying to also pick up draft picks after not having a first round pick. The pens still have a good 3 or 4 years of sid.

  14. I honestly think the pressure is off for Murray going to Ottawa and there is a chance they could sneak into the playoffs and turn some heads. Honestly their blue line is better than the Pens and I’m a Pens fan. They have Chabot ffs. And I personally like the old logo. Good luck to Murr and his contributions to two straight Stanley Cup victories will never be forgotten

  15. Sorry to see Matt Murray go, will always have fond memories of him in ’16, ’17 and beyond. But Rutherford being Rutherford isn’t afraid to make changes/throw players under the bus. Most would expect that he’d do something like this.

Too early to say for sure, but it probably is a trade win for Ottawa. This further reflects Jim Rutherford’s trade-flop streak: going for Brassard, Galchenyuk, and Gudbranson; signing Marleau; experimenting with Niemi; bringing back Sheary; all while giving up Pearson and Reeves too early, and just giving up on Kessel and Hornqvist (also trade wins for the other teams, at least in Kessel’s case). Whether Zucker is a good fit is still to be determined as is the future of this team, but to date, it feels like a lot of bad decision making.
