Why is the salary cap a gross salary cap?
Why don't all Canadian teams demand a "Net Salary Cap" system ?

The salary cap is bs and handicaps alot of teams especially canadian teams.
By having no income tax in Vegas they can afford to assemble better teams with lower priced cintracts

Regarding the tanev trade last year, it was different then this situation. Marner would be a sign and trade which comes with an extension, tanevs rights were tarde to Toronto so not a direct contract but they were able to negotiate with him first. If the leafs get a sign and trade with Vegas we should get a decent player back because the knights would have to shed cap to make room for his contract
Going to the states may exempt you from state income tax but the federal US income tax still applies.

Tanev situation was completely different. Sign and trade provides certainty for Vegas and makes an 8 year contract possible, both of which have value. Not to mention Marner is first time UFA eligible come July 1 and removing the possibility of other suitors from the picture has value. This would command a higher return.

They have Hague as RFA that might be a good trade seeing as how they probably don't want to give up players with contracts.

Nevada isn’t an “Income Tax Free” State. It is a state that has no additional state tax on income. You still have to pay federal income tax to the US government (IRS).
You can play on a team that's in a "tax free" state. You have to actually live there to reap the benefits. If you live in canada, you're still paying taxes.
