Brett Murray Year End Media | 05.27.2025
M, you’ve been a part of the team’s leadership group for a couple of seasons now. Uh, what made this year special? I mean, statistically speaking, it’s one of the best years the Amirs have had in a long time. Yeah, I mean, like you said, statistically, it’s pretty evident that, yeah, it was a special team. Um but uh not only that, I think what a lot of people don’t see is what what goes on in the locker room um within the team and within within coaches and trainers and um I think that was a pretty special group um from what I’ve seen in my my time here. um you know, not only the way the guys treated each other, but the way they treated staff and and uh you know, fans and that was uh it was fun to watch. It was fun to be a part of um and like you said, it was pretty special. You couple years ago had a really good season. Uh exceeded that this year with career highs. What led to the success if anything different? Um yeah, I don’t know. I think uh I don’t know. I I can’t really put one one thing into It’s uh it’s a tough sport to to really put your finger on one thing and um you know I think it was a combination of offseason training you know just trying to get better every single day and and uh having those teammates that uh also were performing and and I think individual success comes from team success and we started with that first and then um I was able benefit from it. Yeah. You got a bulk of your goals in the power play. One of the league leaders on the man advantage, a lot of them in the net front. Who did it better, Michael Mur Brett Murray? Uh I will I can’t answer that. U because you know I love I love Mike. He’s uh I think I I heard it at least 10 times this year. I scored a I scored a MY goal and I think well you know what I guess if if I’m scoring goals and people are still calling it MY goals maybe maybe he’s done it better so far. Uh I got some time to catch up though. He had a pretty long career uh great career so hopefully I can uh hopefully I can turn it into my goals. But uh um this this wrapped up year six for you here. I we talked to you after game five. You voiced wanting to be back but just talking with Yabo as well like I don’t know if it’s too early to look at this, but the AHL teams never stay together. Do you do you look into contracts or guys like a a Koulique and Kak who who had significant time with Buffalo and do you start reading the tea leaves? Is there a chance that this team could have a a pretty big overhaul going into next year? Uh, you never know. Um I think I think what gets lost a lot is that this is a business for for you know management and uh as much as a player can love a city or a team um it’s not always your decision whether you want to come back. Um you know I think personally I think I said it after game five I love this place and I love this city. So, I I would love to come back, but uh like I said, it is a business and you never know what happens. Um I think with how young this team is and there could be could be quite an overlap with, you know, the roster for next season, if I’m on it’ be great. Um looking back at that series against Laval, you guys push it to five games. Is any part of the challenge facing the Rocket coming from that two-week layoff? Um, I think I think it can be if you let it. Um, you know, we tried we tried not to. Um, I I believe there was a stat that said there was like has happened 17 times or something in AHL history and, you know, a really good number has gone on to win it. So, um, you know, I don’t think we can chalk it up to that. Um, yeah, maybe maybe a little bit of lull for game one and that wasn’t great, but um, I don’t think that affected us moving forward for the rest of the series. So,
